Maztica Campaign

After finally finding the bloody Maztica maps (They weren't mentioned in the index or even given a chapter in the PDF's!), I've started plotting a new campaign. Basically, I'm using Darth Sidious' plot from Star Wars for one of the Maztican peoples, using city states to fight each other instead of droids and stuff. Gonna replace the Jedi with the Jaguar or Eagle warriors, I think. Anyone got any ideas I could use?

My other campaign idea is a Ravenloft-styled "A Nightmare on Elm Street" meets "The Shining." Want a place in Faerûn where they're likely to have sanitariums (loonie houses), anyone able to help? Waterdeep seemed the best bet, but want magic toned down.

-Aren't they randomly all the way at the back? Or something like that.

-What is the timeline of this? After Maztica went crazy, or before the Faerûnians arrived?

I like the Darth-Sidius like plot for Maztica. Setting smaller political entities against each other to allow one to move in and take control of the region under martial law... hmmm... sounds vaguely familiar. ;)

There is an island-sanitarium located off the Swordcoast somewhere that would probably work for you - maybe someone else can give you more on that.

Are you planning on using the Nightmare Lands boxed set for the Ravenloft-feel? There was a sanitarium in that that would work pretty well.

Just name it Arkham. :D

@LK: 1370, approx. Before things went loopy. And the maps were at the back, just not mentioned in the beginning or in chapters.

@MT: Thinking I'll use that idea. Place a wee abandoned sanitarium and a village on an island off Waterdeep, use some dream rules from Heroes of Horror, add a hedge maze and stuff. Perhaps even call the place Innsmouth... And the sanitarium can be on Elm Street. Not using the Nightmare Lands, using the Ravenloft 3rd ed for madness, horror and other amusing things to happen to the characters.

Also, how did my topic get shunted to page 2 that fast!? Here I came back to lurk around the forums, just to see my threads kicked about like a filthy layabout!?

Right, calmed down enough to post.

Basically, I'm putting a Sarrukh in Maztica; saying he's been one of the smarter ones that fled the sinking boat in Faerûn. He's kept his yuan-ti very well hidden, and now his agents (high priests and such) have managed to create another knightly order in Maztica in addition to Jaguar and Eagle warriors; Snake warriors, whom all revere snakes. He's taken control over two city states, one smaller than the other and is going to to use the smaller's military power to make people rally to his other city state. Then he pulls an order 66 on the Jaguar and Eagle warriors.

-Alright, that's important to know.

-Because you are a filthy layabout, maybe? Ever think of that? :P

-Interesting idea. Lizard Knights, perhaps, for the name? And then, a new name for the different "functions": Snake Assassins, Chameleon Rogues, Iguana Fighters...I don't know.

And some of the Inmates at the sanitarium can be named Jason, Freddy, Myers, etc...

Perhaps a Githyanki who's face is permenantly set in a ghoulish grin.

And of course, you need a bunch of weird doctors who aren't above doing their own 'research' on patients - think Dr. Moreau (Mongrelmen!).

Maybe have a few Kua-Toa living beneath the island, to really give it that 'Innsmouth' fell.

About Maztica - Putting the Sarrukh there is a good call, along with the Yuan-ti and everything else Serpentine (I believe thats how they plan on introducing the 4e god Zehir to the Realms). If you really want to go to town, have a group of rodent-like people (Kara-Tur's GoblinRats, or Warhammer's Skaven), and have a select group of them (or human-Skaven halfbreeds) form a group designed to hunt the Sarrukh and their minions, called Mongoose Warriors. :D

I have worked out a lot of the background for the Tlincalis (Scorpionmen), linking them to Drow that turned from Lolth to worshipping Tiamet thousands of years ago. The Tlincalis are the Drow that displeased Tiamet somehow (just like Driders are the ones that displeased Lolth). With the return of Lolthite Drow to Maztica (about a century ago), the two groups have been fighting one another. I came up with this because I read that in RW mythology, Tiamet did in fact create the Scorpionmen, and I like linking the Draconic Gods to the Maztican ones (we worked out who's who in that old thread that I can't find anymore).

Well, was thinking of using Fangs of Sseth PrC or something. Sarrukh's brough with him a few followers - anathemas etc.

And I'm not a filthy layabout! I just fill in for them when they're on vacation!

@MT:
Read your stuff over in Candlekeep, you copy pasted;p It's interesting and really like the idea, but think I'll just stick to what I've got now, at least to begin with. The player's gonna have loads of trouble with Helmites with the Heretic feat (Strife!), Sarrukh Sidious, neighbouring city states and preventing priests from accidentally sacrificing him.

I would actually use the name Ssidiouss!

Maybe Ssiithious... to give it a bit more difference, and make it Realmsian.

For one thing her name remind me of a similar greek word that means horse feces. Cannot remember the exact word, my greek is rusty.

It would be nice to see Sseth and Quezacotl/Jazirian continue their war in Maztica though human proxies.
