What skill would be best suited to simulate trying to Meditate?

It only needs a skill check if it has an ingame effect. What effect are you trying to achieve?

In 3e, Concentration was a Constitution-based check, but I don't think that analogy is quite sound. I think a regular Wisdom-based check is probably best.

I would go with Wisdom Check, or maybe Insight. I also want to know what effect you try to achieve with the meditation.

Basically I'm trying to figure out what skills would be used to suceed the Rite of Passage my character's clan uses. (As well as forming the Clan's Background Feat ala the ones presented in the Dragon Article and Forgotten Realms Guide.)

Basically in order to be considered an adult you have to survive in the wilderness with nothing that wasn't made by your own hands until you are ready to meditate yourself to a trance at the clan's "Holy Ground" to commune with the Guardian Spirits. (A feat best done during the Winter Solest hense the Endurance part of the test.)

I figure that such a ritual would be a Skill Challenge using Endurance, Nature, Religion, and whatever skill would better represent entering the actual trance. (I had thought of Insight, but wanted to see what people thought.)

As for the Feat itself I figure it would have a requirement of choosing Dragonic for your second language and grant Endurance + "Trance Skill" to your class lists with a +1 Bonus as per most of the Scales of War Feats.

Let him use any Skill he can justify in character. Nature, Insight, Endurance, Religion, Athletics, all seem like they could work.

If it's just to create a background/regional benefit ... well, that's part of his background. He's already passed it.

If he's already passed it, there's no need to worry about it. He just used whatever Skills he has at his proposal to pass. Heck, he could even have done it untrained!

Insight, a Wisdom check, or have each distraction roll against the PC's Will.

I'm the player in question, my DM has allowed me to basically flesh out the Northern Realms, within reason of course. For some reason he hates Dragonborn and has banned them from his table but has no problem with a culture with heavy dragonic infliuences.

Hmm, do you think that the background feat becomes overpowered in comparision if instead of requiring knowing Dragonic as a language (And thus limiting this background to Humans or people who bought the Linguist Feat at First Level.) it adds two skills as Class Skills and the language? (I think he would allow it either way so that isn't really an issue.)

This would probably be better asked in the Running the Realms forum.

Endurance was the correct answer. Thanks for playing!

He passed it, but maybe he wants to give the relevant modifiers from background to that skill
