| #1suin_bahhar_02Nov 11, 2009 18:37:56 | Was wondering if anybody has named and worked out the full roster of the Courts of Fey. I can only recount Oberon and Titania for the Seelie Court and the Queen of Air and Darkness of the Unseelie one by heart. Can someone point me in the right direction? |
| #2The_SilverswordNov 11, 2009 19:20:59 | Are you talking in game, or from actual folklore? Im not sure if they ever gave a full roster in any game book, but you could look up some old folklore on fairies for some info. Some Realms deities are now considered arch fey so I dont know if that gives them a seat on the court or what ever. I found this link about the courts in D&D that I thought was interesting, if you havnt already read it. |

those books prompted me to do a little causal research- both Mab and Mauve are figures from folklore, as of corse is Titania. Aurora, I don''t recall, though. |

In addition to Titania and Oberon there were also: Caoimhin, demigod of killmoulis, food, shyness and friendship. Damh, lesser god of korreds, satyrs, atomies, dance, song, and celebrations. Eachthighern, lesser god of unicorns, pegasi, healing, loyalty and protection. Emmantiensien, lesser god of treants, trees, and deep and hidden magic. Fionnghuala, demigoddess of swanmays, communications and sorority. Nathair Sgiathach, intermediate god of pseudodragons, faerie dragons, sprites, pixies, grigs, mischief and pranks. Skerrit, lesser god of centaurs, community and natural balances. Squelaiche, demigod of leprechauns, trickery and illusions. Verenestra, lesser goddess of dryads, nymphs, sylphs, female fey, charm and beauty. Not sure if Eachtighern had a presence in the Realms cosmology, as Lurue had similar portfolios for the Realms. Tappan may have similarly replaced Damh in the Realms, he is a god of satyrs and is worshipped in the North. Tappan had a daughter named Shiallia that was the goddess of korreds in the Realms. The Queen of Air and Darkness is known as Auril in the Realms. At least there are those who worship Auril under that name. It is unclear if Auril actually used to be the Queen of Air & Darkness or if she just took the name as an alias upon the former Queen's demise, but recent lore by Brian James supports that they may be one and the same. I believe Ed Greenwood has said that Emmantiensien, god of treants, is an aspect of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. This tree was supposedly destroyed in the Spellplague, so Emmantiensien may have died as well, however, I personally like to think that the Tree, and Emmantiensien, survived somehow and may eventually "grow back" to its former glory, given time. |

If the world tree was destroyed in the Spellplauge then perhaps that explains Rillifanes absence from the Elven pantheon. That really sucks though, I really liked Rillifane. |
| #7suin_bahhar_02Nov 12, 2009 5:56:44 | Excellent. Thanks Gray. There was a 2e sourcebook called Monster Mythology that detailed the fey pantheon. In addition to Titania and Oberon there were also: I'm not familiar with those bolded parts. Before the spellplague these gods are mostly in slumber or ignorant of the happenings on Fearun. Could it be that the Seelie court has a new interest in Toril because the removal of Mystra? Not sure if Eachtighern had a presence in the Realms cosmology, as Lurue had similar portfolios for the Realms. Ah Shiallia is the best! definately going to include her into the Fey court politics! Might be that Eachtighern and Damh are masks for Lurue and Tappan outside of Realmspace. Would the beastlords like Nobanion or Balador (god of werebears) have a connection to this? I can imagine the chronology of the formation of dieties would make beastlords ancient. Aye, I think Aurils link to the unseelie court is fascinating. It might be that the Gods of Fury were formerly part of the Unseelie court, and the earlier incarnation of the Queen of Air and Darkness perished after the spellplague, giving Auril the opportunity to ascend the dragonshaped unseelie throne. I can see Malar, Umberlee and Talos attending the unseelie courts and fitting in. |
| #8StiggerNov 12, 2009 7:06:49 | Kilmoulis were also known as house brownies, and as I recall, 2e made them something of a subspecies of brownies. I'd guess House Elves would be the term these days, post Potter. Atomies... water fae of some sort I think, don't recall much else about them though. While I've never run across the term Deep and Hidden Magic per se, I'd guess it related to Faerie Mounds and the like, probably Crossroads and Backroads as well. No idea though to be honest, though I do like your ideas on the terms, and would probably combine the two. Might have to swipe some of those notions for an upcoming game we've got planned for our return to the Pre-Spellplague Realms. |
| #9suin_bahhar_02Nov 12, 2009 7:51:31 | House elves, eh? I have used Gremlins and Tinkers as such; Fey being the curious adaptable race they are would invade smaller settlements at night to learn and abuse the tools of civilsation. Those waterfey are far less inspiring but I might find use for them. Emmantiensien and that Deep and Hidden Magic aspect really has me intrigued now. His link to being the actual world tree is the reason I connected him as a possible placeholder of the weave. Then fearie mounds and crossroads are like the roots and branching points of Torils natural weave structure. Mystra perhaps used these as fountains to spread out the weave into the forgotten realms' living sphere. After this lore update you can go ahead and steal those ideas Stigger. Glad to inspire. Gonna read up on some Yggdrasil lore and come back to post some more. |
| #10StiggerNov 12, 2009 8:31:40 | Well, they weren't exactly as enslaved as house elves, but its sort of close. They'd help out around the house, take some food and supplies as payment, and leave if they were abused or even noticed too well, going off of memory. They were pretty beneficial really, though pretty damned vindictive when crossed as I recall. |
| #11green_elven_vampireNov 13, 2009 0:34:55 | There is an awesome, and I mean awesome d20 book entitled Faeries that gives you pretty much all you need to know about the Seelie and Unseelie courts. Plus it gives PrC's for certain Fey classes and races. Here is the link to see the book. www.amazon.com/Faeries-d20-Fantasy-Rolep... Hope that helps... It worked wonders for me and my campaign. GEV |
| #12lord_karsusDec 21, 2009 18:57:21 | -That is supposed to be the best book on the topic. It's a pain in the ass to find, but, if you have it/can find it... |
