Where on the main FR continent would one find what is considered an elite, or simply 'the best', military academy or military service?

Ok, I would say Tethyr. Run by followers of Red Knight.

Cormyr, Myth Drannor, Evereska, Waterdeep are all possibilities off the Top of my head.

Or you could just plop one where ever you want too.

I hope that helps.

I'm playing in the game, not running it, so I have no authority to violate canon in this instance.

So you want this info for background?

Basically, yes.  Not necessarily the mechanical backgrounds, but just fleshing out his past and all that good stuff.

Where will this game be at in the Realms? Have you already been playing, or is this game just starting?

4e post plague....military acadamy, you mean like joing the watch or Guard military, or do you mean martial acadamy, like fighter, ranger etc training?

well other than Delta's reply, cant think of to many others, and as for your canon comment, there is no canon on that iirc, but could be wrong, the only places to be covered of note in the DDI , was the Cormyr backdrop, the backdrop in the return abier city, which one cant think of at the momment, and the past 3 part airspur articles.
as Delta stated drop one in.....

anyway Calimport... and you can add just about any Merc company to the list, and if your planning a paladin then a temple of said deity ....

The region has not been detailed yet (I'm trying to snatch it up!) but Tymanther most certainly would have military academies.  As well, Cormyr would have several in 1480 DR.

Red Knights "big" temple was near Baldur's Gate, not in Tethyr... The Citadel of Strategic Militancy.  That would presumably be the best military academy around, though you could probably call any of her temples military academies in at least some respects.

That sounds like what I was looking for.   Thanks.

To answer earlier questions, the game is already going; last I can recall, the PCs were in the Gray Vale area, but I figure I can come up with a reason for my guy to be wandering around just about anywhere, with a little effort.

I'd say Suzail, capital of Cormyr.  Isn't that where the Obarskyr's reign?  Anyway, my second guess would be Myth Drannor with the Coronal's Guard.

-Yes. Suzail is the capital of Cormyr, and the seat of Cormyr's crown.
