Moon Portals of Selune

Selune was involved in a "long-forgotten" conflict that apparently necessitated the creation of a portal network in the Moonwood and surrounds:

Moonwood Portal Network

What of this portal network in the era of 1479+? Was it destroyed by spellplague energy as many other portal networks were? Or does it remain, still largely forgotten save for sages and dusty tomes in old libraries?

At least some portals in this network were originally intended to transport Selune's faithful to battle against evil forces of Hellgate Keep. Additionally, it would seem that at least a handful of Shar's and Malar's faithful learned of these secret portals since that time.

Could either the faithful of Shar or Malar still be using these for evil purposes? Seems like a good hook for an adventure with a PC devoted to Selune, who would want to reclaim and deny use of the portal network to those of evil intent.

As far as I'm aware, the majority of portals were destroyed during the SpellPlague.

This one could have survived, but....

Selune might have shielded them, as they were hers, if they might eventually prove valuable to her future plans. Seems like an interesting hook for a DM to use, possibly.

Well Selune got her power boosted during the SP years, didn't she? She may have been well positioned then to protect them.

As we know, dear, they have favored little in the way of any god. And the fact that nothing was stated in adverse towards your response makes it slim. Though, 4e is about hooks, so your hypotheses remains valid.

Just saying….

They haven't, AFAIK, stated that the spellplague was the cause of the destruction of all the portals. Some may have linked to places that got switched with Abeir, and a few were part of the Waymeet nexus, which was destroyed in The Last Mythal.

-You know, after looking this over, I might retitle them 'Moon Portals of Sehanine Moonbow", and do something with them.

Let me know where your thinking of going with that - I had an idea for a CK article, but with that on indefinate hold, maybe we could do a little something together.

I was going to link the Moonwells to the pools in the Pools of... series of novels, by saying they were permanent conduits established between the Outer Planes and Toril when the world was young, to help facilitate the transference of people, creatures, and energy to the newly formed planet.

Different divine beings could then 'align' them to their own Divine Realm, sort of like resetting a teleporter to a new destination. At first, they would have been available to everyone (divine), but later misuse neccessitated either permanently sealing them, or in some cases, certain gods claiming them as their own (as the Earthmother/Chauntea did).

That would explain why Bane was able to corrupt one(?) - he actually just re-aligned it to himslef (and his Realm). It also explains how certain beings and people were able to use the ones in those novels.

Its a real bare-bones idea that I never fully fleshed-out, but if you want to relate that to Sune/Sehanine's portals as well that would be cool.

-Right now, it's nothing more than a little twinkle in my eye. Right now, I want to do some Kara-Tur stuff, than the EoF entry for Bregan D'aerthe and Evermeet, and then this...

Go for it! Heck, I'd buy them over the 4E stuff that's available. Seriously.

Oh.. and date Jessica Alba...

Heh, I think she might be a little too young for you, as she's only 27. ;)

27?!

Nah... too old. :P

I never really thought much about her, and then I caught Sin City on cable (never saw it when it came out).

All I can say is Damnnnnnnn :OMG!

And I really don't go in for 'skinny' - I usually like a bit of meat on them thar bones.

Anyhow... Moon Portals... Perhaps I should have mentioned Jennifer Lopez instead. :D

She is a cutie, I'll agree there.

Ooh! You're a cradle-robbin' chubby chaser! :bounce:

Just kiddin'. ;) :D

I am moved to write a poem, dedicated to the moon goddess...

Oh, we love Selune when she is fullest,
For there's more to love, on "handles" pullest,

Sliver moons and skinny rails, 'tis true:
They're dark and cold, at night they're blue,

For both I'll stand and fight or duel,
Won large and full, my dreams they fuel. ;)

Are you agreeing or disagreeing here, bub?! Answer!!

(sigh) As all things are it seems….

Well, not everyone is so lucky to meet a hot D&D board chick, girl, thing as you did!!

Therefore, Jessica Abla applies, you big butt!

Heh, I think she might be a little too young for you, as she's only 27. ;)

If Hugh Heffner can deal with the Girls Next Door, then MT—and, more so, me—can pick up JA or even one of those High School Musical chicks.

It’s only fair!

I agree with Stig. Perved enough to allow.

Keep up the good work.

The setup in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide allows DMs to keep or ditch any portals they wish, without detracting from the Points of Light concept.

It makes sense that portals constructed for or otherwise linked to a divinity that survived the Spellplague would themselves endure into the post-Spellplague era because they were anchored to the divinity’s power.

I suppose one could argue that this isn’t the case since the gods had to draw in their power to survive the tumult of the planes falling apart during the Spellplague. Still, such portals might be “easier” to rechristen/reawaken and so become active again by means of a ritual performed in the name of the divinity the portal was originally built at the behest of.

The divinity could impart some of its raw power to rebuild the connection and just like that you’ve got an active portal connection.

So, yeah, in one form or another I think the Moon Portals could still exist. That and they’d be that much more valuable and sought after for their rarity and significance.
