Jun 22, 2008 11:36:44 Ok, im starting to work out a possible campaign based in the moonshaes after having read the history on them in dragon, however i cannot seem to find any information on the exact nature of what the moonwells are.

The searches i did all resulted in references to the moonshae novels instead of any sourcebooks.

Anyone know of a good source on these?

Jun 22, 2008 11:47:54 The only thing on the Moonshaes for 3e is in the FRCS, and not terribly in depth I must say. It's been many years since I read the Moonshea trilogy, but from what I vaguely remember, it was a conduit to the Earthmother or some spiritual well of a sorts. Can't really give you more than that but I do suggest you read the trilogy. It was a great read, one of FR first novels IIRC, and could give you lots of insight to what they do.

It was a very nice supplement, one of the first to follow the "old gray box" 1st Edition Realms. Tied in very nicely with the novels by D. Niles as well (which were the first Realms novels published).

Jun 22, 2008 13:32:17 -If you are looking for rules in 3e, I don't believe there are any for them. You could, however, treat them as grounds Consecrated in the name of Chauntea. Maybe standing in one allows a magician to cast Sanctified Magic (Champions of Valor) without paying the EXP cost.

It is pretty good. Not as good as the Waterdeep book that preceded but it was an early FR supplement

Jun 23, 2008 8:30:28 Among their many other abilities, moonwells allow druids attuned to the grove's energy to pass through the moonwell into the Feywild. Think of the moonwells as a fey crossroad; all of the sites interconnected, allowing quick passage from one moonwell to the next.

Jun 23, 2008 9:04:52 I had the beginnings of a CK article in my mind, connecting the Pools of Radiance to the Moonwells.

Basically, I figured that both were types of Cosmic Cysts, which date back to the time when the world (Realmspace?) was formed. They were two-way portals to the Outer Planes that were 'attuned' to the various Gods by making an 'offering', which would key it to a specific deity.

Through the Millenia, most of the Moonwells in Faerûn proper have been lost, or were 'claimed' by druids and consecrated to Chauntea (as Bryan has noted), but what the Druids don't let anyone know is that they can be re-attuned to other Divine Realms and Planes.

There are a scant few that are still connected to other Gods (like the Pool of Radiance), but Druidic orders, especially those of Chauntea, establish Druidic Circles and claim ownership of them as soon as they are discovered, if possible.

A well that is attuned to a specific Diety/Divine Realm gains the benefits of consecrated ground (to the deity/alignment), an extra-planar portal, and other Deity-specific benefits (Priests IN a Moonwell cast as if 2 levels higher, and they cast at +1 lev if with 100' of the Well). You can pretty much hand-tailor the benefits of the Wells to each deity.

Thats all Homebrew, and as far as I got with my thoughts on the subject. That works with ALL the novels (Bane's 'corruption :D ), including PoR, and also with Brian's elaboration above as to their purpose.
