I just got the edition 3 FRCS in the mail today. I like it alot, though some of the edition 3 rules I don't exactly follow, not knowing those rules. In the back it had a paragraph about Kara-Tur. Where can I find more information about Kara-Tur?

Thanks in advance everyone. I haven't been here too long but you are all very helpful.

See Kara-Tur the Eastern Realms (2nd edition sourcebook) for more information about Kara-Tur. I can't think of something for 3rd edition, but this forum has a thread "Kara-Tur Redux". You should take a look around there.

See Kara-Tur the Eastern Realms (2nd edition sourcebook) for more information about Kara-Tur.

It's published for 1e.

It's a boxed set containing two books, four large color maps, and plastic hex overlay. The same format as FR gray boxed set.

I'm sure you can get an electronic document version of the aforementioned product via RPGNow.com or DriveThruRPG.com

-There are also a bunch of adventures. Adventures don't have too too much lore, but there's so many of them.

Ronin Challenge updates the setting to 2e, and there were a few Dragon articles that updated certain parts of it (mostly PrCs, but we did get a nice update on the Hordelands) to 3e.

When I start publishing the articles (released one at a time, a'la the Elven Netbook), I do plan on having a passage about 'recent events' for 4e players, but I don't know the rules well enough to provide 4e mechanics).

I assume, at some point, someone (3rd party?) will come out with an OA for 4e, and then we will see what is what.

Are there any plans for 4e Oriental Adbentures rules does anyone know?

-As in supplemental rules for 4e? Maybe. Probably, eventually. As in an update for Kara-Tur? There's a slim chance, but it isn't likely, based on the fact that in 3e there was no Kara-Tur specific material because it was judged that the profits didn't warrant the publishing costs, for WotC. Generally speaking, nothing's changed.

They will not be publishing any setting which they have to pay the Gygax family royalties on.

Which most-likely includes Kara-Tur.

-It's owned by TSR/WotC. It didn't receive any sourcebooks in 3e specifically about it, but it has received plenty of mentions and "easter eggs" in sourcebooks and novels.

I think what he meant is that they are trying move away from 'past editions', because the new team felt a lot of it were mistakes (like bringing back Greyhawk for 3e).

Kara-Tur is something that was around for 1e, and since the game has come so far from it's "Gygaxian Roots", it would be counter-productive to create ties back to that earlier period.

At least, thats what I think he meant...

-I don't know...WotC is doing their best to revive formerly defunct 2e settings, with their "one a year" mantra. Because Kara-Tur technically isn't it's own setting, and is a niche setting, those are two elements that work against in, in terms of a formal 4e revival. Same thing with Zakhara and Maztica.

Maztica willl never come back (although if they were smart, they could have come-out with one sourcebook for both Maztica and it's GH clone, Hepmoaland).

Zakhara may come-back, but not so much because of the massive number of people interested, but rather because they can just re-print old material with new 4e mechanics. Short-cuts like that seem to be the norm these days (why create, when you can borrow from the past?) It was dfone well-enough for them to at least consider it.

The only to I'd be willing to make bets on are Athas (Darksun) and Ravenloft, because both were winners with large followings (and unique-enough to actually warrant seperate settings).

Not sure about Dragonlandce - that seemed like a shoe-in just two years ago, but now it seems they aren't interested in using it (they continued their contract with Weiss - something they didn't do with other settings and 3rd parties). Who knows how that will go? I don't think DL can withstand another edition/setting change, personally.

Mystara's a possibility - it was damned good - but its a lot like FR and GH, so it may be scrapped due to redundancy. Then again, perhaps not... I could actually see myself running a 4e Mystara campaign...

-Like in 3e, I can envision with Kara-Tur and Zakhara (I'll take Maztica out of the equation, now) articles with rules and such in online DRAGON magazine. I can't see entire campaign settings, though. And, if there somehow were 4e Zakhara and/or Kara-Tur campaign books in the works, I don't want to see them.
