What types of musical styles exist in Faerûn named or given analogies (classical, baroque, moor, etc.)? What are some instruments that are used to play that music?

A listing of common Realms instruments and their prices can be found here:
realmshelps.dandello.net/stores/aurora.s...
I would assume that their musical styles in the Realms are similar to that of Earth during the Medieval period.

-The shalaquin is a long-necked Elven instrument played by plucking or strumming the strings while changing the tension of them with a ratcheted wheel. Among the Elves, there are all kinds of musical and oral singing traditions. Many are moving as to bring listeners to tears.

Sorry for the Necrobump but that link is down and I want to know pretty badly.

Kind of sad how it hasn't been more developed. Music is a huge part of culture and with wizards, artificers running around you would expect more contemporary instruments to have equivalents. D&D is a bit of a mish mash setting so it's not strictly medieval.

THIS THREAD over at Candlekeep may be of some use.

One of the moderators there has been compiling a list of musical instruments in the Realms and might just share it with you if you ask nicely.

Reading the thread it doesn't look like it.

Trust that a subject about Realms music would bring me back to the Wizards' boards. Heh.

Anyways, Destroid, I'm the Moderator that Mr_Miscellany refers to above. Don't let the apparent bouts of side-discussions re: SageTime and the like throw you off the applicability of his generous link. The scroll aims to ensure that I am made aware of those scribes interested in perusing my files.

If you wish a sampling of my still-in progress listing, I'd be happy to share it with you.

Thank you, I would appreciate it and so would my GM.

You're welcome.

Is there anything you're looking for in terms of musical references in particular? I only ask because while my listing is quite comprehensive, the work itself remains largely in my own personal SageNotes form, so it might be a little difficult for you to navigate through all my extra notes and tidbits that I like to pepper my research with.

If I know what I'm looking for, directly, then I can extract it for you without worry.

I can't think of what I'd need in specific. A lit of musical instruments obviously, as it implies. I need to know as much as I can basically.

I'll send you some sample bits from each section on offical Realmslore music references that I've composed. That should make it easier for you to determine what you need to know more about.

Note, however, that I can't get to this source until the weekend. I'm presently away from my virtual archives at the moment, and won't have access to them again until either late Saturday or Sunday. I hope that doesn't create too much of an issue for you.
