| #1merdokOct 30, 2008 10:39:53 | I have never played dnd in Forgotton Realms untill my recent experiance DMing the LFR Weekend in the Realms. I just like the way the wold works (Not as much as Ebberon mind you but that comes out some time soon so i can wait) Anyway this is my take on how my warforged was introduced into the world of Faerun. This backstory actually extends20 years before the spellplague Tell me what you think Name: Splunk After a early play through of 4e where we just played and didn’t really try to worry about the rules besides what we had to have to play through encounters where the party was being chased down a chasem in the back of a mountain by goblins when the wizard and the warlock got together and began blasting the walls of the chasem (the area we were running on was only about 3 squares wide if I remember correctly) to slow the goblins causing rockslides and such. After that game I developed the idea for splunk (short for spelunker) a warforged mage built by a wealthy dwarven mining company as part of their demolitions team. These dwarves saw the destructive potential of a mage and decided that a construct would be the best idea. They built him and later his other warforged brothers based on ancient tombs from another world. Splunk was the first of his kind and took the dwarven Artificers by surprise when he began learning and actually began learning the dwarves by name and status, getting better at his job than originally designed. The tombs did not say anything of sentience in these constructs but it was apparently there. Splunk grew up as it where and learned to enjoy his work even befriending his master in the mines. For 20 years he and his brothers worked with their spells to carve deeper and deeper into the mine doing what would have taken dwarven demo teams years to do in mere months that is until the spellplague hit. Even the warforged where not immune to the spellplague. The mining company was all but destroyed leaving the warforged in the mines. Many died due to the effects of the spellplauge, others where spellscared but all lost their connection to the weave and their ability to cast spells. Without masters to guide them or a job to do the 20 or so of them left the mines in order to re learn the ways of magic refusing to believe that the very force that holds them together could have possibly vanished like that. For a century they traveled all over Faerun. Over that time all but 2 of the warforged fell victim to the spellplague or simply died due to the many dangers witch few of them where prepared for. By the time he reached his future home of Waterdeep Splunk was the last warforged left alive walking into Waterdeep. Instantly he was fascinated by the floating white orbs all over the place which seemed to be interested in him as well. After a long few years during which he had found the Blackstaff Tower becoming a student there and finally achieving his goal of regaining his magic. After this he stayed in Waterdeep serving in the Blackstaff Tower and learning of the other races in this new "changed world" as he calls it. This is a first VERY ROUGH draft for my idea I just wanted to know what you guys thought. Despite what this may convey this warforged is not spellscared . |
