Hey.

We just played our first DND 4 adventure and it went good and was tons of fun. So i decided i want to put the players in the Forgotten Realms setting.
I got the Forgotten Realms books this Friday and our gaming meeting was on Saturday, so Ive decided to not open the book before we were done with our adventure.

Last night we were done and we were looking a little bit how to convert the character to Forgotten Realms character, and we got stuck on Deities. Since the Dragonborn Paladin [Good] had chosen Avandra, he needed to find a new God, along with the Halfling Rogue who haven't decided at the time we started play, same goes with the [Good] Human Warlord.

But we tried to look over both the PHB and the DMG for the Forgotten Realms, and the first we learned is that Avandra isn't an option. The second thing was that there was no clearly option for a Halfling Rogue who had the alignment "Undecided". We are new to DND4 and we never played Forgotten Realms before, but the options on the regular DND4 books had a God for almost everyone (at least for those chars we played).

Anyone who can help us with the Gods and Goddesses?

Well if you need help converting the PHB gods to forgotten realms you might look in the 3.5 FR Campaign setting, there was a neat little table that has exactly what your looking for in it. Im not sure why they didnt include something similiar in the 4thed version but that wotc for you.

I wouldnt buy it unless you really want but go to a used bookstore or something and peice of paper and just copy it.

-The Draconic Pantheon was taken from the 2e Draconomicon, a Forgotten Realms source, and the Halfling Pantheon was taken from Demihuman Deities.

First, great to see another fellow Swede at these boards! Welcome brother.

Second, regarding Gods, I use both the FRCS specific AND the PHB generic gods when we play in our FRCS based campaign.

Why?

Well, why not? Lots of people actually travel across the planes and bring with them ideas and faiths to new worlds. Few places have so many portals and interplanar travels as the Realms.

With this philosophy you can have the FRCS specific gods as the usual ones, and the PHB generic as the more unusual. Of course depending on which region you look at.

Good luck!

Hey and thanks.

Well is it possible to use the gods thats in the DND4 PHB without warping the world of Forgotten Realms? Because that would be the best idea.

Absolutely. You can even make your own gods. The 4th Edition Forgotten Realms is a neat little sandbox. You can build whatever you want in it, or change things to suit your taste. If you don't like a certain deity, you can kill it or replace it. You can modify regions or change them entirely - whatever you want.

Just look at the Forgotten Realm's Campaign Guide as just that, a guide, not a set of rules. Draw ideas from it and then work toward making it your own.

There is a "conversion" table in the RPGA Living Forgotten Realms Character Creation Guide on the 6th page, which you can download here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lfrx/characters

It suggests Avandra might be well represented by Tymora as they share several traits. It wouldn't be terribly odd for a Dragonborn to worship a basically human deity because Abeir, where they came from, had no gods.

Most Exarchs are essentially demigods which represent more specific fields related loosely to their "boss" god. Most of the Exarchs actually were classified as gods in the past, but part of 4th edition Realms was to reduce the number of "real" options. Characters are still free to worship the individual Exarchs though, and just have all the divine bookkeeping get passed along from there.

For more detailed background info on the gods, the Internet is a wealth of data just waiting to be mined...

If your character can't find an 'appropriate' god to worship, based on alignment, or class, or personality or whatever ... don't take one. You don't need it unless you're a cleric or paladin.

Indeed... one of those core ideas behind 4e is that everything is pretty much useable everywhere... FR stuff in Eberron, Eberron stuff in homebrew, whatever. Do whatever works best for your game, so long as you're all having fun it doesn't really matter what you stick in there.

A Halfling Rogue would most likely choose Brandobaris as his patron deity.

The Realms were warped by 4E and the spellplague anyway. There's no reason you can't use PHB deities in your Realms campaign (and frankly, it would've been fine to import PHB deities in 2E and 3E as well).

Dragonborn Paladin [Good] Bahamut Torm Aumanator
Halfling Rogue [unaligned] Selune Chauntea Tymorra/Beshaba Waukeen
Human Warlord [Good] Tempus Valkur Red Knight

Look them up! There are really lots of good things written on those, lots of flavour for you and your DM.

FR gods are wicked!

-This much is untrue. It is extremely rare to find an individual who does not pay fealty to any deity at one time or another, be it something as minor as lip service.

I'd have to agree that Tymora is a good FR match for the core Avandra.

Yes Pelor is much better as the sungod than Amaunator. The realms really need a deity like him, since they "destroyed" Lathander.

/me chant:" Lathander, Lathander, Lathander. Dont worry, dont mourn for the Morninglord will return and reclaim his rightful position. In the meantime follow his recommendations:

Strive always to aid, to foster new hope, new ideas, and new prosperity for all humankind and its allies. Its a sacred duty to foster new growth, nurture growing things, and work for rebirth and renewal. Perfect yourself, and be fertile in mind and body. Wherever you go, plant seeds of hope, new ideas, and plans for a rosy future in the minds of all. Watch each sunrise. Consider the consequences of your actions so that your least effort may bring the greatest and best reward. Avoid negativity, for from death comes life, and there is always another morning to turn a setback into a success.Place more importance in activities that help others than in strict adherence to rules, rituals, and the dictates of your seniors."

Dragonborn Paladin [Good] Bahamut Torm Aumanator

Do whatever you want but dont take Amaunator. Give "impostery" no chance! ^^
