| #1rivaltunaOct 19, 2008 13:43:02 | Think about it. All of the loopholes, like HOW was she unaware of Cyric sneaking up on her in HER OWN GODLY REALM? How was she killed by Cyric, who shouldn't have the power to defeat her? I'm sure you've all heard the various conspiracy theories regarding her death, so let me quote Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer. In the part where the devil was talking to you in the dream world over the mortal wizard's soul, he mentions how a former God of Death died, and gave on his position to Myrkul. He mentions (quote) "Well such a thing (dying) is not usually as final as it is for mortals. Dead gods can linger on in other planes of existance, and can even be reawakened if enough mortals pay them worship." With that, Mystra isn't dead. At least not yet. |
| #2rauricOct 19, 2008 14:16:23 | Your probably right. When they do bring her back I hope it is as a lesser god of mysteries or some such and I hope she will work for Selune or Oghma. If she is a greater god I hope she sticks with Mysteries as her schtick and I want her to remain an enigma and very aloof. I was not a fan of the post-TOT Mystra at all because she acted way too mortalike for my taste. Again this is probably since I read all of those damn novels and they polluted my mind. The authors of those novels really (IMO) made her look like a fool. Anyway I hope they bring her back and I hope it is the way I described. :D |
| #318DELTAOct 19, 2008 14:39:24 | -Bad Rauric, bad! Letting those good for nothing Novels pollute your mind. I think it would be rather trite if WotC brought Mystra back from the dead. Let sleeping dog's sleep. Now if the OP wants to bring her back "again", I say go for it. ;) 18DELTA ![]() |
| #4JudgeDookieOct 19, 2008 16:42:45 | OP. ![]() Guess what? ![]() Yes, Mystra could easily be restored to her former power, but its not about to happen anytime soon. If it happens, it certainly won't for at least a few years. At this point, it is all up to the DM. And there is enough fodder there for an entire campaign. As much as I agree, we have easily seen the logic of such things prove false. You're gonna have to deal with this issue on your own. |
| #5rivaltunaOct 19, 2008 18:04:04 | OP. I think the problem with the new Realms lore is the LACK of logic that the authors are using. |
| #6red_wizardOct 19, 2008 21:13:36 | I think the problem with the new Realms lore is the LACK of logic that the authors are using. Not telling us how, isn't a lack of logic. There are many logical possibilities, any number of which would satisfy the naysayers. Just because they have left it a mystery, is no reason to assume some elaborate conspiracy. It makes far more sense to assume they changed it for game purposes ( as they've said), than to pretend it's a cover for some future happenstance, that would invalidate their new rules. -RW |
| #7Mr_MiscellanyOct 19, 2008 23:19:35 | Sometimes I view Cyric's slaying of Mystra as little more than him killing the godhead that presides over magic. Since magic is so raw and pervasive in the 4E Realms anyway, the foam will bubble to the top and attain semi-divinity and sentience sooner or later. |
| #8davesaundersOct 20, 2008 10:25:52 | There are a whole bunch of conspiracy theories. |
| #9JudgeDookieOct 24, 2008 20:52:34 | Sometimes I view Cyric's slaying of Mystra as little more than him killing the godhead that presides over magic. That actually was the point--from developer standpoint anyway. |
| #10markustay63Oct 24, 2008 22:02:19 | Besides - they are saving 'the Return of Mystra' for explaining why 5e magic works differently. ;) |
| #11JudgeDookieOct 24, 2008 22:11:27 | Beisdes - they are saving 'the Return of Mystra' for explaining why 5e magic works differently. ;) That's dumb. Everyone knows Shar will control all magic in 5e. |
| #12springwindOct 24, 2008 23:28:31 | No she's just on holidays havin a rest with Mum & Grand Dad in the heavens above, what a few millenia in the times of gods....... |
| #13markustay63Oct 24, 2008 23:58:00 | That's dumb. Everyone knows Shar will control all magic in 5e. At first I was like "they can't do that, because then who's the BBG for the setting?" And then I thought about that Family Guy episode, where the church announced you shouldn't worry about Satan anymore, because they have discovered the new 'Super-Devil', who's even badder then the old one. So I guess Shar can have a rotten kid, who turns out SO bad even Shar's afraid of her, and Shar becomes more neutral as this new Shadowier Dark Goddess tries to do her in and take her stuff. Enter Sharette - the 'Silar' of Realms 5.0 ![]() |
| #14styphathalOct 25, 2008 2:49:05 | I hope she is. There was no point to have a god of a primal power. Now if they made a Primal from Abeir that acts like Azuth and the other elemental primals of Toril I can see that. |
| #15kainhighwindOct 25, 2008 3:27:23 | You've got it all wrong! A reliable source tells me that in 5e, Mystra comes back and gives Shar the Weave to do what she wants, using what 4e casters are using for magic as the Super-Weave which will allow spellcasters above 50th level(because 100 is the new max) to go into " Super Magician" mode where their hair turns blonde and spikes upwards, as well as turning their eyes green and granting them access to spells that haven't even been invented yet. However, Shar has empowered teh regular weave to allow all of it's users to turn into a giant gorilla of nigh-unstoppable power at the sight of a full moon. Now, because 5e is 1000 years in the future, all of Shar's Weave practitioners have grown tails due to their prolonged gift use, which was called by those in Kara-Tur as "Oozaru" |
| #16keverasOct 25, 2008 10:42:37 | I was not a fan of the post-TOT Mystra at all because she acted way too mortalike for my taste. I wasn't a fan either, though I can understand the way she acted, due to her mortal inferiority, which she kept in many ways. |
| #17markustay63Oct 25, 2008 12:25:19 | I think Shar would be an idiot to take over the weave - everyone knows it is quite literally a dead-end job. :P |
| #18kainhighwindOct 25, 2008 12:30:58 | Heh, maybe, btu did anyone catch my DBZ reference? |
| #19markustay63Oct 25, 2008 12:37:47 | Yup. ;) I'm pretty sure 4e has had the 'Spikey Hair' appelation applied to it before. In fact, I think the 4e rules are just perfect to simulate a Dragonball RPG - Its all about fighting and powers. I wonder where the World Martial Arts Championship is being held in Faerûn? ![]() |

Everyone knows level 99 will be the max. Get your sh*t straight. ![]() At first I was like "they can't do that, because then who's the BBG for the setting?" Without TV shows, I do believe you would be without any wisdom. |
| #21saint_matthewOct 27, 2008 10:52:21 | Of course Mystras Dead. Stupid things like this happen all the time in the realms. Gods are always doing dumb things. I mean, Mystra being killed in her own realm is about as stupid as a god writing a book about how cool he is, putting a spell on it to make anyone who reads it realize how cool he is. A spell so powerful it would even effect a god & then whats the first thing he does? Proof reads it. ![]() Um Dumb. |
| #22kainhighwindOct 28, 2008 5:07:25 | Yup. ;) My vote is for Baldur's Gate or Waterdeep, which I will now incorperate sometime into the future |
| #23BraveswordOct 28, 2008 8:15:57 | My vote is for Baldur's Gate or Waterdeep, which I will now incorperate sometime into the future Baldur´s Gate would be a nice place for a martial arts championship... :D "Welcome to the WMAC at Baldur´s Gate Arena!" |
