If I'm not mistaken, the Netherese have been putting their flying enclaves up in the air, so I was wondering what kinda transport they had to mobilise themselves from their enclaves to the groundsurface and visa versa. Did they have the same kinda airships the Halruaa still use at the present? Or did they use more primitive ways to transport, like flying mounts (with flying carriages)? - Neely. |

But I imagine uses of tenser floating disks combined with featherfall contingencies would have been used. Within the range of more powerfull mythallars these magic contraptions would be available nearly at will. The Netherese mostly used gates to travel to and from the flying enclaves and back to surface settlements though. |

Thanks Suin_Bahlar_02, A gate between the surface and the flying enclave seems the most logical yes. And I like the idea of the tenser floating discs and featherfall contingencies... kinda makes me giggle thinking of it. ^^ Tho I looked into the pdf you recommended, and I read that the Feather fall spell was only discovered around 2700 NY. And Teleportation only at 2900 NY. (Couldn't find anything about the Tenser Floating Disc spell.) |
| #5The_SilverswordFeb 02, 2010 11:57:10 | we are talking about an empire and age of high magic here, so really they could of been using just about anything from hover cars to flying mounts or magic carpets. |
| #6sfdragonFeb 02, 2010 15:11:23 | Tenser was a greyhawk mage, so as He or someone who had the spell came to the realms or a realms mage went ot oerth. |
| #7The_SilverswordFeb 03, 2010 1:23:06 | Spelljamming craft were all the rage as well. |
| #8NeelyFeb 03, 2010 2:09:24 | I often looked upon the Netherese as "anything is possible" however when I saw the list of when which spell was discovered, I realised alot of their majesty came only in the last few centuries of their excistance. |
| #9The_SilverswordFeb 03, 2010 14:13:10 | Well ok at the start of the golden age i would assume that the Spelljammer thing wasnt in full swing and hover cars probably werent invented yet, but im sure they used flying mounts and magic carpets. Suin has a good point with the portals, im sure they had an extensive network of portals even during the very begining of the golden age. |
| #10sfdragonFeb 03, 2010 15:47:44 | well larloch had a black dragon mount.... I assume mind you the major arcamists of the day used portals and various teleportation magics as well as the aforementioned flying steeds and magical devices. otherwise the ancient netherese hooked up with caravans and went on foot. how many of the female arcainists had flying broomsticks I wonder |
| #11NeelyFeb 04, 2010 2:17:23 | Hehehe! I love the idea of a flying broomstick. Maybe I could feature that as an item findable for the PC's. =D Requirements to use: wicked female spellcasters :p I'll think I'll go for portals and flying mounts as general means of transportation. (Or on foot/caravan for the common mob). |
| #12The_SilverswordFeb 04, 2010 2:30:30 | Yeah the broomstick is an excellent idea, i dindt even think of that! And Harry Potter has made it cool for dudes to use them as well so it doesnt have to be just for the female casters. |
