| #1mykesfreeJul 10, 2012 19:48:19 | My Scales of War Campaign is starting to wrap up, and I want to start running a Neverwinter Campaign. I wanted to see what Neverwinter locations and dungeons have already been developed by WOTC and the community, before I started to roll up my sleeves. While there are a lot of baddies to choose from, I wanted use the Shadovar and the Empire of Netheril. Locations/Dungeons that I am looking for are: Mere of Deadmen Leilon Helm's Hold The Tower of Twilight Xinlenal Castle Never/Castle Nowhere Thanks, Mike |
| #2sfdragonJul 10, 2012 21:56:18 | for 4e, all I know officially is whats in the nwn setting book. |
| #3mykesfreeJul 11, 2012 5:46:20 | I guess I should be more specific. When I said developed, what I meant was maps created and monsters populated for encounters. Basically, have their been any official/or unofficial maps already developed for these locations. Thanks, Mike |
| #4ImruphelJul 11, 2012 7:50:39 | I can only comment on two of the locations that you mention (but the short answer to your question is that nothing has been officially published in 4E nor will it be in this post-4E world): Mere of Dead Men There are five 2E adventures set in the Mere of Dead Men published in Dungeon magazines 69 to 73. This is sometimes referred to as the first adventure path published by Dungeon. They were all quite good but the final episode - written by the FR scholar par excellence, Eric L Boyd - is simply superb and provides lots and lots of ideas for an entire campaign. If I was going to run a Neverwinter game, which I do hope to do some day, I would use this as the centrepiece. It ties in so nicely with the Cult of the Dragon and the Thayans in Neverwinter. PM if you need to know more. Helm's Hold Personally, I would ditch the write-up for Helm's Hold given in the Neverwinter Campaign Guide and instead replace it with Madness at Gardmore Abbey. I think Madness fits really, really well there (and I personally don't like Helm's Hold as written). |
| #5sfdragonJul 11, 2012 8:06:28 | Helms Hold sucks after Helm went on VACATION. tower of twilight might have one map.... but I've got to go to work now and cant check on it. |
| #6mykesfreeJul 11, 2012 14:48:02 | Oh this is really good stuff to know. Thank you guys. I really wish WotC gave this product some more support via DDI. While not knowing the production budget, I do not think it would have cost them much to give us a few maps of some of the cool places they have developed for the Campaign Setting. In the post 4E world, I still think developing maps makes the info edition neutral while still being useful to current users of the Campaign Setting. Also DDI is the only 4E product support that we are getting, so lets put some support content in there. Is there a way to bump this request to Chris Perkins? |
| #7sfdragonJul 11, 2012 16:31:11 | the tower of twilight is mentioned in the reader's guide to the legend of drizzt. it has a side view map of the tower, but nothing that may help you with it..... |
| #8mykesfreeJul 11, 2012 21:29:26 | Cool, I found it on page 141 of the legend of Drizzt book. Good catch there sfdragon. I have the book, and I would never have checked it. I also did not know about the Malchor Harpell connection. When I look at the description of the Tower in the Campaign setting, and the Drizzt book, combined it creates an extremely cool adventure location. Boy are my PCs going to be pissed off when they figure out how time works inside that tower. If you have any more info about the other locations, please sent it my way. Do you if any one has created anything on the Obsidian Portal for Neverwinter? Again thanks. |
| #9sfdragonJul 11, 2012 21:40:32 | the obsidian portal?? nope done nothing for it myself. Xinlenal's or Iolouam's enclave the first of Netheril's flying enclaves is only listed and detailed in two books to my knowledge and neither had it to detailed. one of them you ahve, the neverwinter book. the other is the 2e netheril: empire of magic book that was at one time available for free on the wotc site. even if there was a map, it would still be up to date. Helm's hold other than the frcg, the frnwcg, is detailed in 2e materieal as well, Volo's guide to the north, the savage north and a few others that I cant recall to much on tehir titles. but they would be on anything that deals with the northern sword coast which would also have leilon and other places |
| #10mykesfreeJul 12, 2012 10:52:39 | Thank you for the info on the 2E materials. I will try to track them down. Also a layout for Helm's Hold was designed for the first Atari Neverwinter game. I found it in a Neverwinter walkthrough. Now lets get back to why Helm's Hold sucks as written. What sucks about Werewolves trying to break into an insane asylum that has a crazed dragon living in it's basement. |
| #11sfdragonJul 12, 2012 11:57:19 | That layout for Helms hold, may not be that accurate, but its is something to go on. Helm's Hold started out as a farming comunity, grew into the Hold, then into the city/ asylum that it is today. those werewolves are not your ordinary werewolf though, that is the Uthgardt Tribe of the Wolf. They also don't realize that thee Shadowvar took the bones of the thunderbeast from their sacred grounds..... or was it one of the other tribes in the area.... pretty sure it was the wolf ... eitherway it would suck to be Shadowvar if the Tribe of the Wolf should ever find out........ |
| #12mvincentJul 12, 2012 16:57:41 | For 4e resources: Gardmore Abbey could serve as Helm's Hold. My own Neverwinter campaign so far has gone: 1) Gates of Neverdeath 2) Lost Crown of Neverwinter 3) Shards of Selune 4) Gauntlgrym Gambit 5) That Which Never Sleeps 6) Halls of Undermountain as Gauntlgrym (but that takes a lot of modification). My upcoming scenarios may include the Neverwinter related Lair assaults: 7) Forge of the Dawn Titan (Gauntlgrym) and 8) Talon of Umberlee (near Port Llast) Also, the: Neverwinter video game and the Heroes of Neverwinter Facebook game might provide inspiration too. I wanted use the Shadovar and the Empire of Netheril Some encounters for them have been fleshed out pretty well in the following LFR adventures: NETH3-1 Secrets and Shadows NETH3-2 Flirting with Disaster NETH3-3 Seek and Destroy NETH4-1 Containing Shadow NETH4-2 The Tripartite Tower NETH4-3 Purifying the Prophet CORE1-15 Where Dragons Die ADCP3-2 From Dawn Till Dusk PREQ3-1 Shrouded Visions and in The Spiral Gate |
| #13mykesfreeJul 21, 2012 19:10:40 | Thank for all the links. I am someone out there has made the encounters and lair assault materials available. I am also going to throw in the module from the monster vault as a dwarf outpost. |
| #14mvincentJul 27, 2012 17:34:14 | Xinlenal Someone made a map here. However, since it crashed, the Netherese Excavation Site shown in Lords of Darkness p.92 might be more suitable. |
| #15mykesfreeAug 12, 2012 10:04:45 | I have the lords of darkness book, great catch. Thank you for the help. |
