| #1dave_the_DMJan 11, 2010 13:49:39 | My players are going to the city of Neverwinter. I have pretty much all of what's written on this city, including much of the canon from NWN, but I can't find a map! Yes, I know that the official story has the city is destroyed... etc. I am not using ANY of the current cannon for MY FR campaign. I also already know that Lord Nasher has forbidden any maps of the city to be made... but as the DM I need to keep track of where the players are and where various locations are in relation to each other. A map is infinately useful for these types of functions. Does anyone know of where I might find a map (official or not) of said city?? Thanks |
| #2ShiftkittyJan 11, 2010 14:18:21 | I just did a quick Google and found no shortage of maps from the Neverwinter Nights computer games. I don't know if there's one in the old 2e Forgotten Realms Adventures book. If nobody pops up sooner, I'll check when I get home tonight. |

Hmm, I googled too, but I don't recall coming up with anything that really stood out for me. |
| #4ShiftkittyJan 11, 2010 17:57:25 | I googled "Neverwinter Map". They were mostly screen shots from the games and probably too small to give you much information. I'll check my resources when I get home. I'm still at work so it may be a couple of hours yet. |
| #5morandir62Jan 11, 2010 18:44:18 | www.nj-pbem.com/data/Maps/MapOfNeverwint... I used Bing for "Neverwinter City Map". Was never published in the Forgotten Realms Interactive Atlas or Forgotten Realms Atlas. Nor were any maps providing in FR1 Waterdeep and the North or FR5 The Savage Frontier although the city was mentioned. |
| #6ShiftkittyJan 11, 2010 21:38:39 | I'd go with this one then, because my 1e/2e stuff has nada, nothing.. I wonder how close this map comes to the ones we get in the NWN games? |
| #7dave_the_DMJan 12, 2010 11:44:06 | www.nj-pbem.com/data/Maps/MapOfNeverwint... PERFECT!!! Exactly what I was looking for... it has the locations mentioned in the above supplements and Volo's guide. Volo's guide has the most information on Neverwinter than any other supplement I have (and I have them all), but finding a map of the place has been insanly difficult. The major locals mentions seem right on point with this map... someone did a wonderful job here. Everyone in our group is a NWN vet, and we all loved that game. For a time I actually ran part of my campaign on NWN, as well as at the table top. It was very interesting, and I wanted to do the fabled city justice when they visit in an upcoming session. Thank you soooo much!! |
| #8Mad_JackJan 12, 2010 21:15:10 | I'd go with this one then, because my 1e/2e stuff has nada, nothing.. I wonder how close this map comes to the ones we get in the NWN games? The NWN pc games have a much smaller map, with most of the landmarks on that map a hell of a lot more squished together. The city districts are in about the same locations, but the Cloaktower, for instance, is near the city wall on that map but near the Castle in the game (between the castle and locations 3 and 4 on that map)... |
| #9ShiftkittyJan 12, 2010 21:48:20 | Ah, thanks! I was considering using the computer maps myself, but the one morandir62 provided is much more to my liking. |
| #10old_dogJan 12, 2010 22:11:00 | The only thing I found on Neverwinter in 43 was the line on page 84 of the Campaign Guide. "Port cities north of Waterdeep didn't fare well after the Spellplague; both Neverwinter and Luskan are now in utter ruin" I guess their long war if finaly over. I always hoped that Neverwinter would win and put Luskan in it's place. |
| #11dave_the_DMJan 13, 2010 10:24:10 | The only thing I found on Neverwinter in 43 was the line on page 84 of the Campaign Guide. Quite frankly, I'm ignoring the "Spell Plague" and the 100 year jump. The entire idea really sticks in my crawl... as much as I've enjoyed 4E the shear audacity of this storyline by Wizards is probably the most assinine thing I've seen them do, going all the way back to TSR days. A 100 year jump? The destruction of Neverwinter? Since the inception of the Forgotten Realms, I've had a particular love for "The Savage North." I love Waterdeep, Luskan, Neverwinter, Silverymoon, Hell Gate Keep, the political situations, etc. The NPCs are very dear to me, and the stories I've yet to tell with them are numerous. I've no desire to leave that behind, or screw with NPCs I've spent years developing. So, I ignore the spell plague. Which, is actually kind of liberation... I'm no longer bound by official cannon, and players don't know exactly what to expect. |
| #12ShiftkittyJan 13, 2010 12:40:22 | Agreed. I've just redone the Spellplague as something other than a world-rending event. I did provide for a serious "hiccup" in the Weave for purposes of intorducing new spells and new levels of spells (and a few other changes), but left it unrelated to the Plague which was reduced to a mysterious story element slowly seeping up from somewhere below the Underdark. There are more details, but I'm at work right now and really shouldn't be here right now... ;) |

There are more details, but I'm at work right now and really shouldn't be here right now... ;) I did start a new campaign with new character for 4E, but I have 20 years of campaign notes for the Savage North, but little else for the rest of the Realms.... So, I scrapped the cannon for everything East of Anauroch desert, and replaced those lands with the Empire of Zhul. Everything south of Balder's Gate are wildlands populated by nomads. I used the "fall of the Nerath Empire" to make Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Luskan as former members of said empire who are now independent city states. Most of the history remains, however. I have added a variety of elements from many stories to make it interesting to run and play, and my creativity has seen new life since I unshouldered myself from having to remain true to FR Cannon. In some ways, what they did benefitted my campaign. The downside is I won't be able to rely on published adventures without major modifications. |
| #14Kensan_OniJan 13, 2010 22:36:46 | You see, I actually love the Neverwinter Destruction. It gives me a real political Shadowrun level intrigue for Luskan, as the remains of the Neverwinter Nine use their resources to keep the political situation constantly changing, ensuring that the city never stabilizes and rises back up again, and keeping it effectively a war zone. If Neverwinter still existed, I couldn't have such a cool set up like that. |
| #15CruvenJan 26, 2010 7:25:02 | mhm. NwN got a nice map inside the box. Use this one.. ![]() |
| #16Lord_ToastJan 26, 2010 8:22:39 | There is no official map of Neverwinter from TSR/WOTC. In established lore making a map of the city is forbidden by Lord Nashar. Still nothing prevents the players from making a crude map for themselves. |
| #17merrikcaleFeb 10, 2010 7:00:08 | what Lord Toast said. There is some good info in the Volo's Guide of the area |
| #18SmartPaladinMar 04, 2010 1:28:55 | The only thing I found on Neverwinter in 43 was the line on page 84 of the Campaign Guide. I seem to recall asking Eric about that, he said (more or less, I think) Neverwinter got better, Luskan, not so much. *EDIT* Okay, it wasn't Eric. It was Brian R. James, who said it community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758..." title="community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...">here. |
| #19The_SilverswordMar 04, 2010 2:33:28 | well it was pretty much pulverized in the video games wasnt it? |
| #20Lord_ToastMar 04, 2010 6:33:38 | well it was pretty much pulverized in the video games wasnt it? No in the video game it was damaged during the siege and they quickly recovered afterwards. The Spellplague crushed it. Then in the ensuing chaos that followed Neverwinter was pulverized. 100 years later the city is being rebuilt. |
| #21sfdragonMar 04, 2010 8:39:30 | well it was pretty much pulverized in the video games wasnt it? it wasnt destroyed in the 2nd game either |
