Thanks dude!  I hope you guys enjoy it as much as we did writing it.  After it is out, maybe we will tell you about the slug-fest we had with each other to ensure it was cool Cool

Okay fine, I wish there was some cool drama to report but honestly Brian is a carebear and fears me.  I may be his little brother but I am physically taller and larger than him Innocent

Sounds great! I cant wait to see it. And in the Moonsea cool! I was introduced to the Realms via the orginal Pool of Radiance game on my Commodore 64, so Phlan and the Moonsea have always had a speacial place in my heart. Really cant wait for this one.

I have some questions for you about Phlan and the Moonsea.  Did you have access to the unpublished web enhancement created about three years ago?  If so, how much of it did you borrow for the adventure?  Or did you use old material from the video game, novels, Jeff Grubb's brief lore about the History of the Moonsea...etc  Also did you refer to the new Blades of the Moonsea novels? Finally, who drew the marvelous map?

I will try to answer some of this after the adventure is released.  Also, I'm not sure who did the map(s) as this adventure is not out yet and I can't see 'em Tongue out

As a huge fan of Phlan and the Moonsea North, I wish I had a copy of Darren Drader's fabled web enhancement. Alas, that's not the case. Interesting that you bring up Jeff Grubb's history of the Moonsea (from the Pool of Radiance adventurer's journal). Yes, that esoteric bit of lore and much more was used as research for this adventure. Unfortunately, our final turnover was a little on the long side so Matt and I are wondering nervously which parts may or may not end up on the editor's chopping block. House Sokol and Jannarsk from Rich's Blades trilogy are mentioned but otherwise Rich mostly avoid Phlan. I do have Umberlee's Talons from those novels listed as a landmark on the map of the Moonsea. I drew most of the maps for the art order, but then WotC has someone way more qualified than myself do up the professional versions. Honestly, the maps are half the reason I even write these articles. Tongue out

I brought up Jeff's work because every couple of years I do a mental exercises involving the city for a possible FR campaign. Who is on the current council?  Have the Selunites reclaimed their pool?  Now I am wondering if the council reformed, if the Tormites moved in, where is Diogense (the silver dragon), and does a certain portal still function.   I can't wait to read the adventure.  Ya'll Keep up the good work.

I've just got back into the Moonsea area with Rich's Swordmage / Corsair novels, really looking forward to this adventure.

First, thank god it doesn't overlap level limit wise.

Second this adventure sounds really good from its description. I am eagerly anticipating it, especially if it has some nice maps (because you can never ever have enough maps).

Will it have a good map or will the map be like the piece of garbage that was in the 4E FRCG?

I know the Cormyr and Moonshea map are awesome.

I need to buy a good printer.  I don't think the old Okidata dot matrix will do a good job.

The delay is because it's a giant file and the Editor doesn't want to reduce the word count.  So they are going to need an extra three days to post it. Yeah, if you believe that I have a bridge near Waterdeep Harbor to sell you.

#25

The_Silversword

Sep 23, 2009 7:12:36

Noooooooo!

...And how much for this bridge you speak of? All I have left is 200 gold crowns on my Faerunian Express card. Would that be sufficient?

The going price for this architectural wonder is 400 golden lions.  But for you, a fellow Loremaster, I will drop it down to 200.  Is your card Mirt approved?

Was worth the wait man!!!! Looks beautiful!

Not only is it a solid adventure but its also a closer look at Phlan and the Moonsea north in general. Love those maps! Hopefully they do more adventures like this! Noticed some references to the old Pools of Radiance game, Sweet!!!

I can not praise it enough, really great!

I might add that the artists did an AMAZING job.  I could not be more pleased with their interpretation of our words.

I hope you guys enjoy this adventure.  I think it will please both Realms Loremasters and D&D enthusiasts.

I have to say as someone who also got most of my exposure to the realms via the Gold Box series, it really takes me back.  I really loved those games because they had such a great adventurous feel to them....if that makes any sense.  From reading through the adventure, you guys have been very faithful to what came before you and I appreciate that.  Now when are you going to do an adventure based on Secrets of the Silver Blades......another great one IMO.  Wink

Edit:

I noticed the glacier of the Silver Blades is set in the Dragon Spine mountains on the adventure map.  Is this where the game was set because I always thought it was in North Western Faerun.

This is a really good adventure and makes me want to run a campaign set around the Moonsea... which I wanted to do anyway, but you have confirmed my choice.

I hope you guys do more adventures. It's great to have both an FR adventure AND a really good adventure again in Dungeon as both have been lacking.

(snip) Honestly, the maps are half the reason I even write these articles.

I can relate... but that's because the 4E maps for FR are some of the suckiest maps ever published for an RPG.

How can a company that produces such excellent maps for its various DDi articles be also responsible for those atrocious maps in the FRCG and FRPG? Seriously.

I honestly believe that if the 4E maps had been of the same quality (or even style) of the 3.xE maps there would have been far fewer complaints about the new setting.

Oh yeah, those maps in there are amazing.  I stared at the world map for an hour.  I do have a question, why did the artist use the ancient method of laying north and south from left to right?

I'm not quite sure but we did ensure that the map was true to canon.  You can take that map and rotate it 90 degrees to the right and see how it all fits.  I think maybe they wanted an different vantage point?  Either way, its a sweet map!

Now that we have Moonsea adventure, maybe it's time to again ask about the missing web enhancement to Mysteries of the Moonsea that was turned over to WotC by the author some 3 or more years ago. What are the chances?

#36

The_Silversword

Sep 24, 2009 7:15:15

If it hasnt seen the light of day by now, id say the chances are very slim.

Still they need to do a write up of the Moonsea in general and have some Backgrounds in there

At the moment this adventure looks and reads great.  I can't wait until the weekend rolls around so I can take my time reading it.   Ahh, good old Rolf  is still around after all these edition changes...and they advanced the year by one!  Yippee!  I need to get back to work before a full case of nostalgia waylays me for the day.

Its probably because the page is done in a landscape format.  You'd have to shrink or compress the image to fit that much information in a traditional page format.

I played the gold box game using a c-64 emulator two summers back.  By the way, I got a kick out of the journal entries idea too.  Does WotC have any plans to use the material they cut out for another adventure?

It cant possibly be the same Rolf can it? I mean its got to be like his great great grandson or something right? Unless theres more to Rolf than meets the eye? Maybe hes a polymorphed dragon or something!

Never underestimate Rolf. There can be only one.

And in other news Jon Schindehette, WotC Art Director, posted a close up look at the Moonsea North map on his blog. The map was drawn by Sean Macdonald. Check it out:
