Is´nt exactly the high levels Npc¨s, wich i can ignore them, but is in teh tone of old incarnations, is just thsta i liked more the neww tone of tha setting

-As was said, it is not just what is said by the OP of a thread, but the tone and what is said by other posters responding. "Don't be that guy/girl". Be civil, and it's all good. Incivility, even a little bit, and it all goes downhill from there.

-To the OP of the thread: I get the feeling that English isn't your first language, and that's fine. It's kind of funny, though, because, I wasn't fully sure when I read the title, and wasn't sure if that was supposed to be 'Appealing', or 'Appalling', two words that both fit, that mean completely the opposite things.

Since I don't think English is your first language, and your OP is somewhat hard to read, I hope you don't mind that I cleaned it up a bit. It should make it easier for others to understand.

New Realms more appealing for me.

Hi, I want to state that the new Realms are really appealing to me, and I have been buying the campaign setting from 1st Edition D&D till today. Despite that I've only found it appealing to run one or two mini campaigns in the Realms, but it's never been able to hook me. I guess it could be because I don't care too much for the supplements of older editions, and found that this lack of interest can upset hardcore fans (no offense intended). However, I'm completely sold on the new incarnation of the Realms.

It isn't exactly the high level NPC's of old editions, I can ignore them, but it's the tone of the old Realms. I just like the new tone of the setting more.

Hey Sothico, I'm glad that this iteration of FR hit's those buttons for you.

Personally whilst a fan of 4e I'm not hugely enamoured of the latest regeneration of the realms. Just a personal flavour thing.

However I've said elsewhere that I think the new books are a great stepping point for new players (Which I can see your not), much in the vein of the grey box was for us older players.

That said I do think that there are a lot of adventure/campaign ideas to be found in the FRCG, I read through again the other day and found it encouraging that ideas just popped into my head. MMM Must write up my return of Mystryl campaign ;) .

Later days

I have been a casual player of FR since 1991. I have always preferred the other 2e campaign settings (SJ, DS, and RL) to FR, but in 4e FR I like the tone better. I don't like how the change was handled, and I think they went a little overboard making the bad guys win everywhere, but overall I think they feel more "forgotten" than even 1e's FR. I think 4e's the best version of FR since 1e. 2e had too much focus on Cyric and Midnight, and 3e had too many metaplots.

Unfortunately I don't like the 4e rules at all, so I'm probably not going to game FR anytime soon, since I have a 2e/3e homebrew world that I prefer to waste energy on.

I am still waiting to play in the Moonshaes. My old DM did drop the game pretty much when I mentioned Deadlands to another guy in the group. Even though he siad he had plans for us I think his ADD set in.

Deadlands is cool, but I could never find anyone running a game.

We are now in a continuation of a campaign that begane in the late 90's apparently. It is after the Cease Fire. The GM was a player but came up with his own plot that ties in some stuff from Deadwood and the new adventure "The Flood". We are still useing the old system and not the "Reloaded" rules. I like it but I just want ot play in a D&D game in the worst way.

Listen to this guy! "He just dropped it because he had ADD."

Maybe I dropped that campaign because I was under constant fire from the "passengers of the adventure choo choo express flyin down the railroad." I guess I didn't throw out enough plot hooks. There was only...

1. The tiefling spellscarred bandit Spite being freed from jail and fleeing south.
2. The mysterious lobster machine/golem CLIX and its its little green man pilot.
3. The titanic Kraken that knocked down a keep trying to kill the group.
4. The Pirate King who was forcing all pirates between Amn and Moonshaes to fly under his black banner.
5. The Ebon Lich who succesfully KILLED the entire group by stealing their souls, accidentally reaminated their souless husks, who promptly beat the crap out of him and got their souls back (except for the one who made a deal with a succubus to get his soul & life back in exchange for freeing her) and the entire group (minus the aforementioned) who got all of their souls scrambled up, causing them to share injuries. Which remained unresolved.
6. I'll put them all together here: Over half of the group had an extensive backstory that I helped them with, each of which had its own seperate plot hook.

In addition to the fact that the group had the option at one time to pursue any of these hooks, on their own boat The Salty W**re.

Yep, just call me the Chief Engineer on the Adventure Choo Choo Express Train.

*BTW, Deadlands rules! Why would I go back to listening to you suckers complain about my tapestry of mysteries and enigmas when I could be filling cattle rustlers with daylight.... I don't know why but I'm planning on continuing the campaign in spite of you ungrateful wretches.

I used to be an only D&D guy, but I tried playing a bunch of other systems. Best Idea Ever! Feng Shui, World of Darknes, Deadlands, Mutants & Masterminds, Kobolds Ate My Baby, 7th Sea. All great systems. It helps you learn that no matter how you do it, what we do is about having fun. I'm still a rules guy, but the Rule of Cool is the best rule of all.

***** EDIT! ****
If you havent guessed, I know Rauric IRL, and his avatar is practically a photograph of him, minus the tatoos. (which im encouraging him to get)

I'm still happily running a Third Edition (3.5) and a 4th Edition Realms game.

Twice the fun and none of the hassle. Good times.

No Deadlands for our group tho. We do like 7th Sea a lot tho.

7th Sea is awesome as well, although I think the setting itself is a little TOO RW.

Thats the flavor (and period) I try to capture in my Realms games. Jack Sparrow meets Jarlaxle. :D

And as I've said numerous times in the past, I used the Deadlands rules for my Anchorome: 1475 Campaign. I also borrowed heavily from Iron Kingdoms (I melded Necrotite and Ghost Rock into one thing), with a little Girl Genius, League of Extraodinary Gentlemen, and Helsing thrown in for good measure.

Maybe a little Wild, Wild West and Eberron to boot. I love "magic meets the Victorian age" settings.

I liked 7th Sea alot also.

C'mon Sig. I did pretty much just mention Dlands and you totally switched tracks. It is no problem at the end of the day but I knew you had all that fun stuff planned so it is sad that we sould not see it. Now I just want to punch some nasty chinamen around (We are up against Kang's men).

I do not like tatoos.

Well, it seems to me that the initial wave of the"I hate teh new 4e realms" has died down, replaced by grudging acceptance, or dropping a few snide anti-4e realms remarks.

Not trying to start anything up, of course. Just saying...that's my observation.

Glad you like the new Realms though my friend. I love it---although a history nerd, the previous Realms just seemed...cluttered. Course, this is just personal taste. The only things I miss are Mulhorand, Unther, and I currently dislike the veil of vagueness on Kara-Tur.

BTW, you French? Probably not, but I'd like to see other French players on here. I mean, I meet plenty in France, but on WotC forums is a different story =[

I like the Realms... all of it.

Just like every other person that has ever played in FR, use what you like and drop the rest.

Happy gaming.

As much as I want to flip one towards 4E Realms now and again, I don't find myself doing so often. I guess I'm unlike people who complained about Elminster, Deity X, etc. ad nauseum in Realms past.

The 4E Realms don't appeal to me any more than a few months ago during the transition. However, it has cleanly divested me of interest in the current Realms happenings. I spend a part of that freed up attention on an old Realms inspired home setting, where my group currently plays. So I use the parts of the Realms I like in a way.

I need to work with my Character Builder some.

There is a way that some custom elements can be added and then manual changes can be made to the character sheets. With this, I could fill in the region gaps from the FRPG.

I know.

I was more referring to the custom campaign section under, details I believe.

Also, most 4th edition rules give a skills bonus but none give sole access to feats, I think. There is not currently a way to create a region and have it give skills bonuses without having to manually add them to the character sheet.
