Since Kemp is no longer writing the next Cale Trilogy...noooo!!! I was thinking that Erevis Cale saga had ended in a huge cliffhanger.....Mask is dead, a possible ressurection of either him or Cale is hinted in the end of the book...But Since Kemp no longer writes it, then I believe we'll never know what happens to either Mask or Cale or Mephistopheles, or Tamlin, or Rivalen, or Riven or his dogs.

Mebbe 4e doesn't approve of Mask's ressurection...and Kemp's book is already finished on the canon.

Where does it say that Mask is dead? Personally i think hes just in hiding. Sure some of his chosen have come away with a greater share of Mask's power, but i dont think that means hes dead, Really its up to us to decide, and I for one have decided that Mask is still around. And really Riven and Erevis and the others are WotC properity, so someone else may take over the writing.

Wasn't Mask just an aspect of Shar?  Presuming she reabsorbed him, I'd say he was as dead as dead gets... at least until he pulls the Ras al Ghul thing and comes back anyway.

Damn it! keep your Bat-Man references out of the Realms Board! And no I dont think Mask was an aspect of Shar, Shar was all about the Darkness and Mask was all about Shadows, there is a difference there. And i dont think that it was ever said officially that Mask was dead, and the rule seems to be if they dont specifically say that something is gone then we should assume that its still there, so im assuming that Mask is still there somewhere.

(SPOILER )
Mask came from Shar...Then she reabsorbbed him after the Shadowstorm....I thought it was written in last parts of the novel Shadowbred? But there were hints of him coming back to life...At the near last part when Shar embraced Mask and Mask felt as if he was going to disappear he smiled...And thought of something about him keeping a secret from his mother.

There were other presumptions that really pained me in the book (possibly Kemp's adjustment to 4e)...and might pain you too...
-Mask is a herald of Shar
-Shar is Mask's mother
-Mask is Shar's servant
-Mask is little compared to Shar
-Mask's essence came from Shar

Nooo! Say it aint so. I must of missed that. Im kinda behind on the novels. Well still if he smiled, and kept a secret from Shar, then there is hope yet for Mask. Ive always liked Mask, and dont see him as just an aspect of Shar, an offspring sure, but not an out right aspect, Mask was/is definitely his own being.

(SPOILER) Ya, There were plenty of hints about him coming back to life. An example of this would be when Riven noted that Cale had a son....or possibly Mask merged his essence in Varra (Cale's "B"), or Mask could manifest himself once again in the belly of Mephitopheles....We've heard of Mask come and go plenty of times...as godsbane, then as Kelemvor's helper.
Unfortunately, due to Kemp resigning in the novel issue at wizards, I fear that we may never hear of him again.
I really liked Mask, and thought that him becoming Shar's herald in the 3rd book all of a sudden was all due to 4e bending Kemp's plans on the novel. I've thought of the trilogy in the beginning to be, some kind of battle between Mask and Shar. But in the end, it turns out that the sole purpose of the story was....to battle against a 2 time heretic named Kesson Rel?

Well we'll just have to wait i guess and see how things turn out. WotC might hire another writer to continue the story, though i hope they and Kemp end up reaching an agreement. Hopefully well see more of Mask when ever they do more with the Shadow power source. I believe Mask has more to do with Shadows than Shar. Shar, as i understand it is the personification of absolute darkness, where as Mask is the embodiment of Shadows, you have to have some Light for there to be Shadows. If nothing else, it will be up to us to determine what went on, and Mask is definitely not gone in my Realms!

Mask is Shar's SON?! What a news!
As for the topic - the one below says almost the same about Paul Kemp not writing anymore...

-Keep this in mind: When R.A. Salvatore wasn't going to be coming back to write Drizzt novels, TSR (at the time) comissioned Marc Anthony- the writer, not the singer- to write a short story featuring Drizzt, and entire novel featuring Drizzt (that never saw the light of day). Just because Paul Kemp is no longer around doesn't mean that WotC will not assign a writer to Erevis Cale, or in some other way "wrap up" many of the loose ends that were left opened at the end of the Twilight War trilogy.

Thats what I am afraid of.

I would rather Kemp write about Cale and Co.

I can see the "over-reaction" now, on a Cale and Co. that is not written by Kemp.

-If it's good, it's good. Bad, bad. I don't think I've seen anyone bemoan an author, as opposed to a bad story.

That's one of the coolest thing about mask I think. i might go into this too deeply but Mask is a case where 'Without good there can be no evil, and without evil there can be no good'. That's one of the reasons why i think him and his dogma where never so overly hostile towards the world and the good deities. Mask needs the light to exist.

Not to mention that if the world is destroyed or ruled by a tyrant there is nothing left to steal :P

-Yes. This is the core basis of Zoroastrianism and Manichaeism: Within people (and, by proxy, society) exists dual poles of light and darkness. Obviously, if one does not exist, the "space" that it would inhabit is taken over by whichever is left.
