I don't automatically think every good-aligned, drow-blooded ranger is Drizzt, or even like Drizzt. That'd be silly.

Hmm,

Do you need help with making characters in "The Who" and the Knight's of the Black Hand? Also, Scyulla Darkhope has already been statted out (even though I hate the classes they assigned her).

As for a name for the Small Underdark town, how about Kal'vesur? (it was randomly generated)

For an orc name, how about Graul'kor

Enough with the Drow. The underdark is uselsss, they way I see it is, the house war is ever lasting. Even if you were to hold the first noble house for cenutries, it doesn't actually acomplish anything for you than bossing people around. And if they want to go expand their territory, they get pumbled by dwarfs in mithril hall. Matron Baerne was just old and talked alot of smack. The only Drow actually acomplishing anything in his/her life is Jarlaxel. And Lloth is no different than Shar, they just get a kick out of your death. It pleases them(something about these evil women Godess that would rather you be dead than stay alive as a prized follower...logic+1).

For an orc name, how about Graul'kor

No radio active hunching apes...err, I mean green orcs. Sorry, the similarity is undeniable. Orcs die off more than any other NPC I have ever read/heard/seen. Read swordmage and you will see that Baker couldn't resist either rofl.

Now then...time for business. Ody, your new character name will be Maximus Merridous Dessehmis (Roman gladiator pimped out name). Your campaign will consist of "Destroying what doesn't matter", such as drow and orc filth Diffan has already mentioned. Aim for women and children first to slow any further population they wish to increase. And no, you don't live in a village/town/city, you rule them. And when you are going to raid a usless city such as the underdark, you make sure to say: "I've come here to do two things, chew some bubble gum and kick some ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum."

Now the whole God/Godess thing, they will ask you to follow them and perhaps attemp to make you a chosen or a high preist. Understand, you serve no one, and those you do not serve you consist of 2 people: Those who are dead and those who are going to die. If a Deity demands you kneel, you can't quite kill deity(yet) so you go after their followers than reply in a Shrine of theirs: "Yeah, well that whole 'kneeling' thing is going to be a problem...You see, I've been killing your men all day and I have a bit of a cramp in my leg..."

And when there is a challenger who thinks they have the possbility of defeating you(you always have to have a fancy line before and after you kick ass and take names), you state: "You won't have eyes tonight, you won't have ears or a tounge. You will wonder the underworld blind, deaf, and dumb. And all the dead shall know, this is the fool *Name of challenger* who thought he could kill *your name*.

For you see, few people on this planet truely knows what it means to be despised, but if you play your character the way I am recomending you, what can they do it about? The same with people who cry about USA starting wars, they can whine, but they can't do anything about it.

My friend gave me a CD with lots of 3.5 PFD material and Expanded Psionics Handbook was on there. Now i'm not really sure how psionics work, but i'm willing to give it a try. Scyulla's ex-pal (i'm assuming) 10/ blackguard 8 is awesome, much better than adding levels of ranger. As for the half-drow ranger, there are lots of PrCs that help rangers out, depending on what combat style your looking for. I could stat the whole lot of them when you figure out what levels you want and thoughts on feats.

1st-Where did I even mention Drow? I gave a suggestion for an Underdark town that had an apostrophe, like many underdark towns (populated by drow or not) do.

2nd-What is your obsessive hatred of this imaginary race? I mean, no offense, but it's a bit ridiculous. From observing the FR boards, I've yet to see any positive feed back from you but yet a constant nagging on how people shouldn't play, use, or even mention drow (and now the Underdark in general).

3rd-Considering you don't play the game at all, nor attempt to at least try to understand the basics of the game, you attempt to add advice to someone running one? Seriously, why bother? And in that long rant, not 1 word could be used for ANY value what-so-ever.

Anyways, some of this will probably be edited by Wiz_O, but whatever. I do get the feeling that whenever your name comes up (NoPity) the Wiz_O does the whole "this violates the code of conduct" spiel on Copy-Paste shift-click.

I personally LOVE psionics. Its a coincidence that two of my players acually wanted to play psionics... I usually make my games around my players and not the otherway around I already had an idea for a psionic campain and when two of three said "psionics" I jump at the chance.

Scyulla's ex-pal (i'm assuming) 10/ blackguard 8 is awesome, much better than adding levels of ranger.

I know right. I was like Ranger of Ban...What?!? It's not prctical and it doesn't affect her background story so...

As for the half-drow ranger, there are lots of PrCs that help rangers out, depending on what combat style your looking for. I could stat the whole lot of them when you figure out what levels you want and thoughts on feats.

Well I don't need builds for the ranger (since it a PC not a NPC) but that particular player is not good making background stories for his PCs (ironically he's the best role-player of the 3, go figure). What I need is a common denominator that binds him to the party since he's not psionic oriented at all. I was thinking of making him a Harper Seeking Athena's help in behaf of the Harpers but I don't know if I should give him that "privilage" at 1st level... What do you guys think?

-Psionics work much better than normal magic, in my opinion. I prefer them to the system already in place, and in my own games, gave the Sorcerer this type of spellcasting, to make them more unique and different from the Wizard. If you have Unearthed Arcana, you'll see that Psionics is (more or less) the Spell Point System.

Well, since the ranger is half drow, you could easily tie his drow heritage to illithids and, thus, to psionics in some way. Perhaps "daddy drow" has been enslaved and needs to be saved. He knows that the best way to beat psionics is with psionics, so he's hooked up with a couple for good measure. While I wouldn't go for the daddy needs saving part, I would go with the drow/illithid part to create a background for a psionic connection in some manner.

By the way, since you asked for my opinion on this earlier. Your campaign smells and looks like complete aasimar.

Hmm that Ain't bad... I'll make it better "mommy drow" that hated her moment of weakness by mating with a human and let her child live with his human father .... You see I knew you had ideas.... (even if your taste for Campains REALLY Suck Aasimars)

-That works. An escaped Half-Drow slave, freed from enthrallment from Mindflayers, who is seeking revenge. Knowing that the best way to fight Psionics is with Psionics, he "hooks up with" other Psionicists, with the ultimate goal of befriending them, and gaining their assistance in taking his revenge.

-Being a ranger, this also works well, as the character (if he wants to do this) can take Favored Enemy: Illithid, and can eventually go into the Foe Hunter (I think that's what it's called) PrC at later levels.

Dumbaasimar.

If Mommy Drow had a moment of weakness with a human and chucked up a toddler, she would sacrifice both to Lloth as atonement for such weakness.

Though, the Mommy Drow and Daddy Human bit could work if both were enslaved by illithids. The female drow was forced to mate with a human to increase the slave population (not to mention, simply to demean the evil "female dog") and your ranger was a result.

At some point in his young life, your ranger was either sold, smuggled, or traded out of illithid control for some reason. Would create some serious plot hooks for later date adventures.

Ah, yes. Your campaign is beginning to smell a bit more fresh now that my kick aasimar input is involved.

Ok, lets spill my sh*t first.

In my knowledge, psionics did not get incorporated into D&D until 2e. It did not exist in 1e.

I was agreeing with you.

Yet, your statement of this: "-Yeah, I heard that 2e really butchered Psionics."

How do you begin referencing a butchering of 2e psionics when they were simply created at that point? It's like saying I prefer the new Seinfeld to the old one. There was no change to begin with, simply a Seinfeld.

Did you accept the fact, within a single post, that psionics did exist in 1e?

Just trying to make sense of it.

How do you begin referencing a butchering of 2e psionics when they were simply created at that point?

-Psionics existed before 2e, though not necessarily in D&D. The Marvel Universe, for instance, has plenty of 'Psions', who existed long before D&D was written into rules. When it was implemented into D&D, in 2e, it was butchered, so I heard.

Psionics were in 1st ed as an appendix in the DMG, and also had rules for wild talents. They were alot of fun for the rare wild talent, but to run as a class was a nightmare.

2e wasn't great, but much better than 1e, and with some practice I became fairly proficient with DMing the abilities, and my players enjoyed the unusualness of it once in a while.

3e did a much better job mechanically, but lost some of the "mystery" of the abilities imo.

My first evil Realms character was a psionicist working for the cult of the dragon. Oh man was he broken!

Had great fun using dimension door at first level to shove my foes through and port them 50 ft in the air. The rules were tied to (opposed) skill checks of some sort, and could easily be made. As such the system felt really different from magic though, and the telepath and telekinitic sciences we're the most interesting abilities in the game. The AD&D Skills and Powers supplement managed to bring a more balanced version to the table (with mental attack rolls and MTHAC0), but lost its appeal for me (never tried it though).

After a few years living as a hermit the take on aventuring and on his first journey his party get s ambushed by a raiding party of goblinoids leaving him for dead he was rescued by a Kulta patrol and has spended the last 6 months in Kulta hunting and selling hides and meat....Those ideas that you and Judge provided are going to be used but ofcouse I can't ell him bout THAT ;)

I was making my second adventure as a DM and the guy who's gonna play the Psion Dwarf (Tommy) made his first PC, A Wild Elf Barbarian. So I was making him a background story about him being raised by himself ala Tarzan and he freaking interupts me to ask.... "Is my Char a Virgin?". SO I told him "No, your PC lost his virginity to a goat, but right in trhe middle of 'it' the owner of the goat catched you and and started yelling scaring the goat in the process and therefore squeasing your manhood as you where running w a goat between your legs!" needless to say everyone (but Tom of couse ;))was laughing and they never let the issue go. and I did give him -4 penalty when dealing with farmers....

Goat or no goat--and please don't let there be another --I do agree with Karsus's warning. If you are going to create a character background for this guy that possesses history he may have no knowledge of, then definitely allude to it from the start. Make sure he understands that there are things about his past he doesn't know and even drop him a couple clues as to what that missing info may concern.

Nothing like having a player grovel about what they don't understand. "Oh, Come on!" ;)

But, I must ask, if he is hooking up with psionisists for the very reason to battle some psions down the road, how can he not know about "THAT"?

If you are going to create a character background for this guy that possesses history he may have no knowledge of, then definitely allude to it from the start. Make sure he understands that there are things about his past he doesn't know and even drop him a couple clues as to what that missing info may concern.

-Right...Even if the story is really great, detailed and all of that, it might just not fit with the concept that the player has of his/her character. It's no knock on your story ideas and abilities, but...I'm sure you know what I mean.

Oh I know, But I think they do enjoy for me to do that (but for the goat). Now that you guys mention it makes me realize that I tend to do it very often. In this aventure alone all three of them have unknown secrets The Hellbread doesn't know He has a KotBH or a Cyricst, and the dwarf doesn't know he has a mental map that his ex-aboleth master needs.

The guy's ususal reaction is 'Holy ****' more than anything else...
I run campains with alot of intrigue.

Indeed. And absolutely correct.

Its always good to have a rough idea of where you might want to take a character, but its always best to leave it a bit open ended so that you can change it down the road. Campaigns will generally define and flesh the PC's in a way that may conflict with what was previously planned. I always saw it better to roll with a premise than to cast it all in stone up front.

What do you guys think about the Knight that the hellbred use to be? Make him a Vampire or a Necropolitan?

This I can't assist you with. Don't know much of anything about a Necropolitan other that its an undead whose power falls short of that of a Lich. Though, I've never felt it was right to bring in Vampires for sport. Just me.

Mechanically is just adding the undead type to a humanoid. No CON immunities and such. that's it. no extra abilities or nothing. nd it doesn't have LA (cuz you lose a lv since you have to die to become one) but what. And I don't like Vamps either but Necropolitan are made by a willing creature and made no sense storywise. but since the ritual is all fluff (there's no ritual gude, it just mention that there'sa ritual on the monster entry) I dcided to make him a Necro Fighter/life drinker(from BoVD)

One of the things I've always hated about the military--they judge on time spent in service and service instated to determine the worth of the individual. While the two can be worthwhile towards determining credibility, it doesn't make the man.

My Marine buddy left as a lance corporal to do defense contracting, just so he could tell generals what they needed to do.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There is a HUGE camaraderie within the military. You all essentially become family for life.

But that usually develops in early stationing. You all know each other, regardless of rank, so it becomes a slap on the hand sort of thing.

Once your initial 2-4 years are over and you get stationed someplace else where that camaraderie no longer exists, then you begin to see the bias.

Granted, I'm not military, but my Marine bud isn't my only Marine bud. They all pretty much b*tch and moan about the same things.

We'll by ragulations you are supposed to do all this things, I even every once in a while call people by their first name (mostly buddies of work but still a big no-no, they won't chew you out but if a higher ranking sees you and he doesn't know he'll WILL chew you out). that happened to me a while ago acctually

I'm friends with a Master Sargeant (E-8) mainly uz we see each other every weekend at the same Salsa Club and whatever, and when not in uniform I just call him Jose or Reyes (instead of MSG Reyes) so the other day I was passing through and From his office he tells yells me:

Reyes:"Hey Ortega, can you do me a favor and throw those boxes to the trash?"

Me: "Um, not now"

And kept going. Now this Sargeant First Class(E-7) that works in his office goes:

SFC Brooks:Hey Ortega, come back here. Are you aware that you were talking to a High Ranking Non Commision Officer? That you are supposed to stand in parade rest and aknowlege his rank?!?

Needless to say that I stood at parade rest to talk to SFC Brooks...

SFC Brooks: Now go take those boxes and throw them in the trash, now!

Me: We all do respect SFC Brooks I'm you are not in my chain of command and I'm on a importan mission for SFC Arndt(my boss) so if you want me to take care of those boxes you have to talk to him.

SFC Brooks: Get out of my face!

After I gave you potiental to be the biggest bad ass in FR history, you just looked the other way, you failed and I have given up hope. Like honestly, look at these other suggestions, than look at mine. It's like saying, you would rather your life be about some small time story like the hoobit, when you could pull of massive glory and be hardcore 300 style.

This is what Ody could have been: http://youtube.com/watch?v=aTXlWYdodnc

Cap is better than Wolverine. Good old Logan used to be cool now he's just a cliche.

And Lord of the Rings was a much better movie than 300. 300 was OK, but not great

Yeah, cuz it has 3 movies backing it. 300 has 1.

Oh, and where's your captain now? Did he die? Rotting in the ground from a sniper. Looks like logan wins haha.

Yeah because he so manly when he freaks out over Frank Castle killing criminals that deserve death. What should the Spartans wear in a heated weather? Full plated armor? Some long sleeve shirts and blue jeans? They get the job done with less uneeded weight?

It's more manly because he follows what he thinks is right and not what someone else thinks is right. Cowards to what they are told in fear of punishment whether they agree or not.

-How is the campaign going?

Well, My leave was denied til Dec since we're "lacking manpower (we need you as a the unit's Bi*ch since no sargent want to do the shi*ty job we make you do)" so I haven't even started yet.

However, I'm going to DM around here soon since I found a group in a desparate "need" of a DM (I don't usually complain about bad DMing since my DM is the anti-christ and I don't belive in "wrong way to play D&D" but this cat is "lost in the sauce")

I didn't wanna DM here (U.S.) cuz I find sorta funny that EVERY Npc has a Prican accent (So you walk into the tavern and the bar keeper looks at you suspisiously and says : "What do you want Pendejo") but language barrier be damned!!! players need my help and I'll be damned if I don't answer!

So I' keep posting for both campains I guess....

I'm, or I should say I was, I just checked how it works and it sounds sorta broken at first since the wielder of spellfire works like a Rod of Absorbtion but the class has a Wiz BA and a d4 on HD and has no spell progretion so I let him have it (besides, I have a I have a Elan Monk/SoulDrinker just waiting if he "goes crazy")
