I'm quite behind in reading novels, also. Last one I read was the series on Lolth's silence. I'm hesitant to buy anything new, though, given some of the changes I've read about, at least not until I suss everything out.
So, a couple questions:
1. is there a big timeline update somewhere that people could point me to? My last timeline is a downloaded version that someone put together, and I think it ends around the 1370s.
2. is there a compiled list of changes that have been made?
3. we have the old "Sea of Fallen Stars" module, and we'd really like to play in this undersea realm called "Serôs" (although we won't play mer-folk). But it looks like geography and magic have really changed a lot with 4th Ed and a lot of this module will be really outdated. Does anyone know if there is an update for this region, anywhere? (or should I just give up on this, and play some other area?)

The book The Grand History of the Realms advances the timeline another decade or so, and the campaign guide also makes mention of some events. However, in the main, the 100-year gap is not fully detailed.

I think this is largely covered by my previous answer but I suppose I should add that the rules updates are covered in the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide while the lore updates are given in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide.
I should stress that there are a lot of blanks in the histories etc.... This is a deliberate design choice to make the post-Spellplague FR easier for a new DM to master.

No, there is no update and, for me at least, I would be happy to use Sea of Fallen Stars more or less as is. The sea level supposedly changed in that area but, who cares?, the Sea of Fallen Stars has some great stuff in it.
(I've been running FR since the original grey box and I wasn't a fan of this version at first. However, I love the 4E ruleset and, more accurately, the electronic support, so I've been able to carve out my own version of the post-Spellplague Realms that my players and I are very happy with. The only real problem IMO is that the maps suck but there have been some great maps of the Moonshae Isles, Cormyr and the Moonsea North published in Dungeon (or Dragon, can't remember which). I really hope we see more regional articles so we can continue getting good maps.)
I could see still using the Sea of Fallen Stars as is. The level and shape of the sea may have changed, but it would make sense for many of the under water cities and what not to still be intact.

LOL thanks! I've been looking over the info on the changes, and I'm a little let down. Not sure yet if we will end up going with the new Realms or the old, or maybe even switching entirely and just using our old Greyhawk books.

Actually, it is official, for the most part. The only things that may not be 100% canonical are those submitted by Brian R. James outside of an article. Those can blur the line between official and unofficial, but they don't actually contradict anything else, and they are the ideas of one of the most devoted FR contributors, so it really is the best source.

The timeline is one of those take it with a grain of salt deals.

I may move it to the LFR group at some point, but it is not LFR specific.
