For those who are unfamiliar with spellscarred they are basically a little messed up by the whole crazy magic spell-plague thing in the Forgotten Realms setting. Anyways...

Spellscarred characters can normally only multi-class into getting spellscarred abilities...

But what if there was a spellscarred base class? I mean it's perfectly viable really based on what is there - you only really need to decide on a few things like armor and weapons, skills and healing surges really :P

So anyways... what at-wills do peoples think they should get, and what other stuff? I personally say maybe Hide armor at best and only simple weapons - not sure about surges and HP though...

SUGGESTIONS!?

Give em some form of military weapons. (since so many of their powers are based on the need for weapons) Not sure about role, I'm thinking about Striker which borders on Defender or Controller though.

You'll need to figure out Class Features as well, I don't think the Traits listed under the multiclass feat or powerful enough.

You would have to decide how you're qualifying it as a base class. If you're thinking of making it a character who's a member of the Order of Blue Fire, then go with equipment you can find normally with them.

Actually I cannot understand why they didn't make a Spellscarred Pact for the Warlock, I mean it seems like an obvious choice especially given the mechanics of the changes of how magic works in the realms. Specifically, wouldn't it be an obvious choice for some of the former magic weilders to turn to the spellplague for power with the dissapearance of the weave? I mean you have people turning to all sorts of other power sources, even to Karsus in one of the recent articles... Personally I've been thinking of creating a Spellscarred Pact Warlock for my own theorizing and personal fanfictions (not published or anything, just for my own personal amusement as I don't currently have a gaming group or even the time to try and find and contribute to one at this point in life *sigh*) The idea is that the warlock (orphaned fairly young) learned the ways of the Spellscarred Pact from an intellegent heirloom that is infected with the same strain of Spellplague that the character is infected with and the heirloom's intelligence is largely geared towards teaching the Pact in order to feed off of the energies released by the deaths of enemies cursed by the Warlock, and of course the desire to keep its host alive so it doesn't have to find and train another one. Over time the heirloom would use new powers as a kind of carrot to convince the Warlock that it is the source of the Pact's power. As a companion to this character I was thinking of adding a modified version of a warforged (a prototype created by the Imascari artificiers but inactive untill awakened and freed by the Spellplague). The warforged would be in the form of a great cat and would have powers based on claws and bite and modified by the spellplague infection that brought it back to life and thus its class would probably be something of a unique martial spellplague class. Anyways, these are just some ideas, if anyone is interested I'll try to find the time to type up something in more specific when I have the chance. If you are all already board to tears by my theorizing just say so and I'll shut up. Best wishes to eveyone.

-Perhaps because Warlock Pacts are things that you make willing choices to enter into, whereas the Spellscar business, it's a byproduct of sorts of the Spellplague, and not something that you can really willingly enter into a "pact" with.

I wonder if it wasn't an issue of book space more than anything else. WotC would have had to come up with 30 levels of powers and drop that in on top of the Swordmage in the FR Campaign Guide.

Makes me think they considered teh possibility that if they made a Spellscarred class they'd have to do the same with Dragonmarked characters in 4E Eberron.

I get the feeling they don't want to do that (but I'm no 4E Eberron expert either).

Another task for the community, it seems!

Actually, there are 30 levels of powers for the Spellscarred to select from, just not the full selection of powers a base class would have. Really, you could make it a base class just fine, you just wouldn't have much variation between the Spellscarred as stands now.

It's also a flavor issue, I think. It's supposed to represent something that should have handicapped you, maybe killed you, but you've taken advantage of it, and incorporated it into your other skills.

This.

The mechanic used to portray spellscarrs is different and more flexible than a base class. Much as for 3.5 I would have opposed someone trying to make a prestige class into a base one, I don't think it would serve a noble purpose to change spellscarred.
