So there's a couple of continents of Faerun that have been mentioned a few times here and there that I find I know nothing about, nor can I find anything on them except the mentions in a couple of threads.

Katashaka and Osse? Where can I find resource information on these guys? From what I gather, it looks like these are pretty undeveloped material-wise. Maps, sourcebooks with any scraps of info would be awesome. Thanks in advance guys!

there is virtually no hard information on Osse, and even less on Katashaka.

the only map showing them is the World Map in the 3E Campaign Book:

http://www.geocities.com/zhentar2003/toril_2.jpg

Osse is the large landmass to the south and east of Kara Tur. Katashaka (i believe) is the continent south of Maztica. The continent north of Maztica is called Anchorome and is rumored to be the refuge of the ancient progenitor race of Aaracokra.

-Osse, plug, plug. Even if you aren't interested with the homebrew stuff we are creating, in the first two pages, I made about three posts or so that collect all of the information that exists about Osse, which mainly stems from the novel Lady of Poison, and the Class Chronicles article for Spirit Shaman.

-On Katashaka, the little that exists about it will be found in AGHotR.

Thanks for the link there, good stuff that map! I've been looking for that map for ages and couldn't remember where I'd seen it before!!! Much appreciation.

LK, the stuff you've been working on for Osse is very nice. I likey what I see. I'll have to pick up Lady of Poison and check out the info in there. I think that might have been the single Priests novel I didn't read. Figures.

Just as a FYI, the Forgotten Realms Interactive Atlas program from 2e has the worldview as well... as did some other earlier source I'm sure, since it had to come from somewhere. Unless of course it was unique to the FRIA, which is possible I guess.

FRIA =

Intercontinntal
Assosiation ?

(Funny fact fria means "cold one" in spanish and back in PR is used as a slang for beer i.e. "bartender, give me a "cold one") :P

I should really 'prettify' that for everyone.

Edit: Here's a pic from the FRIA - if it's not okay to post that, I can always take it back down.

Hi Mark,
what do you mean with 'prettify'

Work his magic on the maps I'd guess, and turn it into something other than a sepia outline of continents.

Correct.

Hi Mark,
what do you mean with 'prettify'

Something like this -

-How is that "entire world map" coming, anyway? A distant dream in the distance?

Well, every time I make some headway, my skills increase and I start over. I'm hoping my artistic abilites reach a ceiling eventually and level off (so I can get some godam work done!)

Anyhow, I'm nearly done with Faerûn 4.0 (which is not to be confused with 4eFR) - I just need to tidy things up in the east and south, and then I'll present the entire continent as a 'blank' map, and then I'll start filing it in with all the locales from all the other maps I've put together. The piece-meal way I was working before was very counter-productive.

I spent the better part of today tweaking the hell out of the Shar. I know it isn't really an important place, but the 3e changes reaked havoc on that region and I've been trying to fix it with each 'edition' of maps I make. I finally got Shaareach looking more like it's old self, but we don't have as much space between things like we used to. I could have 'shrunk-up' terrain features (thats how I corrected other areas, like the latest iteration of Erlkazar), but in the case of the Shaar, perhaps losing some of that emptiness wasn't such a bad thing.

My favorite thing so far is the Shining lands - they are much further north, as they were originally, and I'm really loving how that whole 'connecting region' (the Wastes, Raurin, Shining Lands, and Utter East) is coming along this time out. My big mistake was going by the small bits of Gbor Nor and the Great Ice sea that show on the official map - those sizes were WAY off and totally hosed the Hordelands on me. This time out, I'm doing everything from scratch, and not worrying about conforming to the 3e map's distortions.

-You should make all locations and such on a different layer of the map, so you can make both those empty maps, and normal maps at the same time.

Geeeeeeee....

I've only been saying exactly that for the past three months. :P

I've also developed much better research habits - the alternative was to rip all of my hair out of my head eventually... :embarrass

Which means in the back of the atlas, EVERY name on the map will have an entry in the glossary of where it is from (including listings for each edition, where applicable).

Quite possibly THE most useful thing anyone has ever created for DMs for use in their games. :D

Everything will have seperate layers, which means that locale names will be seperate from terrain names, and generally-known locales will be seperate from 'secret' locales (like dungeons). DMS will be able to print-out precisely what they want for player handouts.

Easy to do with Campaign Cartographer... has been for years. Sadly, I've been a bit wary of that program lately for some reason I don't quite get... just have this massive block in my head when it comes to mapping, which is bad for me, since I love mapping...

Well, I write down everything now, as soon as I come across it. I used to depend on memory a lot (which was perfect in my youth), and I also had a bad habit of placing locales on a map directly from a source... and then forgetting where it was from a month later (and having to go back through EVERYTHING to try and find it).

Now I record each and every find WHEN I find it, along with source and a single descriptive sentence. I also created a folder on my HD with seperate Word documents for each source (even if a certain source only had one piece of info). Ergo, every single novel and sourcebook gets it's own document.

For instance, yesterday I created a page for Realms of Infamy, because I came across the town of Rysheos, which is only mentioned in that novel, AFAIK.

Nothing high-tech, just a more organized way of doing things. I had to learn the hard way that my memory ain't what it used to be.

I will also be calling upon your vast storehouse of knowledge, Sage, when I get around to the more commonly known locales. ;)
