Perception of the Drow?

Does anyone know if the perception of the drow in the newest forgotten realms setting has changed any. My friends and I have scoured through the campaign setting and haven't found anything to suggest that the normal person down the street or that any reasonable city guard wouldn't have the typical reaction they would have upon meeting a drow. The reason i raise the question, is someone somewhere (or perhaps it is our overactive imagination) said that the drow were accepted and allowed to roam around with the surface cultures. However, i cannot find anywhere in the online content or the source books that suggests this, but perhaps i am overlooking something. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

-One of the recent excerpts (the one with information on Drow, Genasi, and Swordmagi) says something along the lines of Drow are now a lot more common on the surface than they were in the past.

A lot of cities, Waterdeep in particular, have few racial issues anymore. A drow may be watched, but won't be interfered with unless obviously doing something dodgy. In a world with a huge number of Tieflings and Dragonborn, Drow are just one more group of odd visitors to a city.

I can totally see them being more common, but more common isn't necessarily a good thing. I mean, biker gangs are common in some parts, doesn't make them warm and cuddly!

So in my world, I'm saying they are alot more common, but that has lead to more people knowing about their racial tendancys towards chaos, death and destruction. Big cities will likely leave them be, but they will still get a wide berth when they walk to the bar for a drink. Unfortunatly now even small settlements are likely to know and fear them.

-Personally speaking, I don't see:

(A) The in-game justification for the Drow being more prevalent on the surface (ie, asides "Spellplague").
(B) The metagame reason for even including this information.

Actually, biker gangs tend to be very polite and respectful in areas that they intend to return to more than once or twice. They need supplies and services as much as anyone, so tend not to defecate where they sleep. (My dad used to run with those gangs a little).

Bikers be good people.
Not like those chickens....

Chickens are bad people.
