| #1Adamaro23Jun 03, 2009 4:42:26 | I'm planning out my background for a ''swashbuckling'' character in an upcoming 4e FR game, and I have a few questions. 1. I've noticed that where the Pirate Isles were, there apears to be a fairly large single island... Any big changes from 3.5? 2. I remember the king of Cormyr used to hire privateers... That still going on? 3. How bad are terms between Sembia and Cormyr these days? Now unfortunately I don't own thr FRCG, but I do have the player's guide. But it didn't help too much in this area. I've also read the Cormyr background article that came out prior to FRCG. Any help? |

Cormyr is more than likely still doing that and with the Abolethic Sovereignty in the area now it wouldn't be much of a stretch for them having a somewhat expanded Blue Dragon navy. Absolutely terrible, considering Sembia is now under Netherils rule and they don't get along with Cormyr at all. |

Any big changes from 3.5? -The sea level of the dropped considerably (50'), and water drained into the Underdark. As a result, features from the bottom of the sea, and aquatic cities are now visible and above the sea level, and many cities needed to create "new" docks to actually be on the water. Xxiphu, a floating city operated by massively powerful Aboleth hovers in the area, and is served by flying kraken and morkoth, among others. The Pirate Isles still exist, but supposedly, many pirates are (willingly or unwillingly) serving the Aboleth of Xxiphu. 2. I remember the king of Cormyr used to hire privateers... That still going on? -Presumably. Nothing mentions Cormyr not caring about pirating and such anymore in the Inner Sea, so we should assume that it's still going on as it used to. The changes in the Inner Sea would certainly affect this, though. Perhaps it doesn't happen as commonly as it used to. 3. How bad are terms between Sembia and Cormyr these days? -In 1,375 DR, Sembia was annexed by the City of Shade, and has become an obvious puppet dictatorship. Cormyr, which never enjoyed good relations with Sembia, now has even more reason to dislike Sembia, being as that they did not enjoy good relations with the City of Shade, either. |

| #5markustay63Jun 03, 2009 13:05:22 | Man, are you in luck! I just happen to be working on a new Sea of Fallen Stars map this week, bringing back the 1e/2e look... which can be interpreted to be the 4e look now. ![]() I'm combining elements form both sources (the pirate book, and the Undersea book), so its going to be mighty crowded when I'm done. Sea of Fallen Stars WIP Ignore the 'Buy this Print' - it does that sometimes, and I haven't figured out why. Of course it's Free. |
| #6lord_karsusJun 03, 2009 17:47:48 | -When you upload the image, you need to click 'No' on the second screen that talks about prints. |
| #7markustay63Jun 03, 2009 21:03:20 | well, I usually never see that screen - I only get it once in awhile. Anyhow, spent the better part of the day rebuilding the Old Empires. Got it looking pretty sweet (3e textures with the 1e/2e layout). Also, I've been playing with shading, which gives the maps a little extra depth. I think I should just stick to making maps, and not even bother with creating lore anymore - it's more fun for me, and more useful, I think, to the community at large. I think my brain is 'broken' and stuck in 4e mode: Screw lore... just give 'em eye-candy. :P |
| #8borrisJun 04, 2009 3:02:10 | It's a shame your map doesn't go further east, all the way to the Alamber and the coast of Thesk. Speaking of the Alamber, the Sharskbane wall built by sea elves now rises above water on low tides, and any ship wishing to pass thus has to wait until the water rises again. |
| #9suin_bahhar_02Jun 04, 2009 7:35:02 | I think the new threat from beneath the sea, Xxiphu the abolethic sovereignity, mixes rather well for a psionic pirate/ancient horror type campaign. Due to the sea level drop a couple of the ruins of the ancient Jhaamdathi cities can be found too, giving rise to a possible increase in availability of psionic artifacts from that age. Some other more goodly "threats" in the pirate isles are the warriorwomen of Ixinos. Might be interesting having that island grown in size but also severly hit by the spellplague or the aboleths. This could have led to a rise in plaguechanged or spellscarred amazonwarriors or even a resurgance in mindmages amongst them. |
| #10markustay63Jun 04, 2009 9:27:44 | It's a shame your map doesn't go further east, all the way to the Alamber and the coast of Thesk. It does... That particular map shows everything from Evermeet to the Hordelands, from Hartsvale to the Utter East. ;) That was just a WIP -I'll try to have a newer (and larger) one up later. ![]() |
| #11markustay63Jun 05, 2009 23:58:04 | Newer WIP of the Inner Sea. Showing the ENTIRE SoFS. ![]() Lots of tweaking still to do, along with shading and some other things, plus I'm in the process of completely rebuilding the Unapproachable East. This is the map that will eventually be made into the pdf atlas - its fully layered, as will be the final product. |
