Have posted this is various forms in two other forums...I am new to  Forgotten Realms and am looking for info on plangent, the mineral used in Durpar to fashion artificial limbs...I can work up my own scenario for its uses, but if it is out there somewhere and I am just missing it, I would like to know what has already been done.  Thanks much.

I have not found any additional information on that either.  Unless there is additional information available in the LFR arena I don't believe anything has been done with this at all.

the plagants were firsts revealed in the Darkvision novel.
that may be where this list what type of crystal was used for it.
It might be ancient Imaskarian in Origin though.
on the otherhand it might of been left open intentionally.

Thank you very much...I guess I am going to trailblaze plangent usage.

Choose a magic item that occupies the same body slot as the potential artificial limb, then make the artificial limb a magic item with the same properties (and cost), except that it cannot be disenchanted unless the person in willing, helpless, or dead.

As for compensating for the added benefit of having a magic item that cannot be stolen, the downside can be that it also cannot be swapped out for a different item of the same body slot.

However you should allow the character to remove, or replace, or upgrade its powers through the use of rituals, and disenchanting the limb should allow the option of only removing its properties (but leaving the limb in tact and functional as a normal limb) if the character chooses.

Thanks for your suggestions...I am still mulling it over.

I'm thinking plangent is a little more mysterious and difficult to use than what you are describing here, as well as a little more "wild magic-ky" in its use...I can't see the rulers of Durpar voluntarily using plangent to replace limbs if the net result is "Oh, I permanently have this hand slot magic item I could have bought, but instead I cut my arm off and replaced it in a risky surgery that often results in death."

I'm not saying that to be a wiseguy, I'm just reading the Realms information and extrapolating...if I am going to cut off an arm or a leg there has to be a better reason than that.
