I was starting to play with portals and i actually bump on something a bit weird. Feywild portal's seems quite frequent. I guess my player will go there eventually. But as important as it look like, they don't offer maps of it anywhere in the guide, so is it parallel world (same exact look same city name and all) or another planet like ?

And my guess is since the ritual is paragon level i guess the player can't expect to get there until that time come.

Also. Does it absolutely need an eladrin or elf to pass such portals ?

It's another plane--sort of a parallel world, yes. And while there can be portals to it, it's supposed to be the type of place that "touches" the world in various places, and if the PCs go there they can just sort of walk into the Feywild without even realizing it.

The Feywild, like the Shadowfell, is not a mirror realm, parts of it will match the realms, but most of it is, well, wild.
As to the gates, it depends on the gate, many have specific triggers, so it stands to reason that many are going to be keyed to Elves (or Eladrin if you insist), but quite a few are accessible to whoever finds them.

I'm guessing that it'll be covered in the Manual of the Planes ...

Home to gods and devils, demons and genies, fey and titans, these strange dimensions offer unlimited adventure opportunities for Dungeon Masters and their players. Manual of the Planes

From todays extract from Manual of the Planes:

Close by the mortal world lie its echoes, the parallel planes: the Feywild and the Shadowfell. Parallel planes are strange copies of the material world. Where seas and mountains lie in the world, similar seas and mountains exist in these parallel planes. Yet they are not perfect copies. A thriving human city in the mortal world might be a forested vale in the Feywild and a haunted ruin in the Shadowfell. It seems that the Feywild’s version of a locale in the natural world is a pristine memory of what that place was like in the youth of the world, whereas the Shadowfell’s version shows a vision of how that same spot will look when its people pass away and it falls into ruin.

Although some natural features vary between these planes, the biggest differences between them are the structures of sentient creatures. The kingdoms and castles of the eladrin are not replicated in the mortal world or the Shadowfell. Similarly, the city of Gloomwrought exists only in the Shadowfell, and no city stands in the corresponding spot in either the mortal world or the Feywild.

So underlying geography should be much the same, though exaggerated in one direction or another, and the political geography will be different.

King of the Trollhaunt Warren has a great Feywild portal, The Moonstair.

Also in Forgotten Realms the plane of Feywild is often referred to as Faerie. It's modelled after the classic European tales (and modern fantasy literature and movies) of the realm of the fey folk (or whatever name you wish to call the pesky little anklebiters).

-Information on the Plane of Faerie can be found in The Manual of the Planes, and there's a really good third-party book simply entitled Faerie.

yea, it's the best source for fey so far

and Schend was the editor so you can consider it half-FR

in short here's what it says about portals (they're called doorways)

fey doorway locations include:

• Stone rings, whether naturally or artificiallyarranged
• Trees with intertwining and overarching branches
• Gates in abandoned fences
• Cave openings
• Ponds and lakes, with the surface serving as the doorway
• A ring of mushrooms
• An ivy ring growing in a tree
• An outline of a door carved or drawn on a stone, tree, wall, or some other surface
• The woven interior branches of a hedge or bush

list of sample methods for opening fey doorways, don't have to be a paragon ritual:

• Circling around the doorway several times
• Turning around three times in place
• Lighting and dancing around a bonfire
• Stepping backwards through the doorway
• Certain stepping stones in a garden or stream
• Playing a particular tune or singing a certain song
• Saying a password or pass-phrase
• Allowing the door to open only on certain days or at certain times (like only for the hour when the morning dawn fills the area of the doorway)
• Carrying a key (mundane or magical)
• Sleeping in or near the doorway
• Solve the puzzle, riddle, or situation
• Cast a spell

Another way to get through a fey doorway is to be taken through by someone who knows the secret to activating it. Fey frequently bring mortals.through invitation or abduction:

• Drunken revels
• Fertility rites such as running naked in a meadow on Midsummer's Night (Shieldmeet)
• Performing outstanding music
• Consuming faerie food, or drink

then there are many other interesting details about the feyroads, the book is really worth it

-The only reason why I haven't gotten it is because:

  • I don't have money
  • It has things like "Jack Frost" and "Santa Claus", which turned me off a little.
  • At the end of the day, I think I like the Plane of Faerie better as being a semimythical place that we know a decent amount about, but don't know enough about.

-Bastion.

-Actually, it's Bastion Press, but close enough. And here's a review of it from some random website I've never seen before, but will trust is objective.

-It's like the Draconomicon of Fairies.
