Has anyone made any cool spellscarred/changed monsters?  If so post them.

Is there a template that can be applied to a monster?

When I saw the 4E Realms, my mind was scarred by the Spellplague. Does it count?

Sure it counts, i'm sure there are other Spellscarred trolls all over the Realms.

On to a more serious note, to answer your question no, there isn't any sort of template that can be transposed on to an existing creature to make it spell-scarred. You can give it spell-scarred abilities like the ones listed in the FR Players Guide. Additionally, you can look at the pre-existing spellscarred creatures in the FRCG and take what you like from there and slap it on to any other monster using the Adventure Tools program.

For myself, I haven't made any special spell-scarred monsters yet but I did convert a 3.5 original adventure into 4e and it involved a Calzone golem. I can't find the file as of right now but I have it on the Adventure Tools program. Sadly, it doesn't convert well from there to here so I'd have to post it differently. Though I'm willing to share it if you'd like it for some fun.

I've never really seen the need to make or do anything with spellscars or spellscarred creatures in my games yet. I thought about using a few but just didn't choose to in the end.

They're known to crap in threads as opposed to the woods as well.

I've attached links to five monsters I created a year or so ago. They all need some revising. I can't believe that it is not possible to upload PDFs to these boards!

The one I like best, at least as a basic idea, is the plaguechanged blue dragon. He is meant to be one of three blue dragon siblings (of the Morueme clan who were noted wizards). I basically made the plaguechanged one a brute while one became a soldier with tactical warlord powers and the other was a controller with wizard powers. Unfortunately, they were lost to me when one of the monster builder updates corrupted all custom monsters.

Thank you for going beyond a threadcrap and dropping a giant turd in this thread. We receive your offering of a turd, with thanks, and hope that we might be able to soon return the favour.

Those stat blocks are actually a little hard to read on there to be honest, it seems to clump up and make the formatting strange. I did notice the Spellplague Adept had an immediate reaction saving throw power: Do you intend that to be used against daze and stun conditions? Because as it's a reaction it means it won't be able to affect those powers at all. That could be your intent, but that's a frequent thing some people forget when they make those powers. I think it would work a bit better and be more useful against those two conditions if it was an immediate interrupt.

The monsters look pretty solid though.

You're right. I uploaded them as PDFs and assumed that they remained as PDFs but it seems that they have been converted into some sort of rich text document. Horrid!

Is that because daze and stun stop you from using immediate reactions? I'm not sure I agree with that but I accept I could be wrong.

Thanks. I'm not 100% happy with them as they were when I was first using the monster builder about a year ago. They do look better as real PDFs! ;)

Yes, that makes immediate reaction saving throws terrible, because they won't work on daze, dominate and stun. As immediate reactions are after whatever effect was applied, but then you can't take them when dazed, dominated or stunned so it's useless. Only immediate interrupts can save you from being dazed, dominated or stunned.

Thanks for that, Aegeri. That's another rule I didn't know. Oh well, I'll just use the MB to change it to a triggered free action.

That means the racial power of hobgoblins isn't quite as useful as it was before!

Edit: If you don't mind, would you please let me know where you found this. I've looked up the updated definitions of immediate reactions and stunned and I cannot see anything there consistent with what you're saying. Thanks in advance.

It comes from the text of immediate reactions from the general rules for immediate actions:

Reaction: An immediate reaction lets you act in response to a trigger. The triggering action, event, or condition occurs and is completely resolved before you take your reaction, except that you can interrupt a creature’s movement. If a creature triggers your immediate reaction while moving (by coming into range, for example), you take your action before the creature finishes moving but after it has moved at least 1 square.

Basically, because the reaction lets whatever it is triggered to resolve you lose it before you can use it. When you're dazed and stunned (the condition applied to you), you can't take immediate actions anymore. Remember that reaction wait for their trigger to resolve, so if that means you get dazed or stunned those effects block you reacting. As they have resolved and applied the daze/stun it makes reacting to it illegal and so the power fails to affect the condition. An immediate interrupt is different and will beat daze/stun/dominate because of this:

Interrupt: An immediate interrupt lets you jump in when a certain trigger condition arises, acting before the trigger resolves. If an interrupt invalidates a triggering action, that action is lost. For example, an enemy makes a melee attack against you, but you use a power that lets you shift away as an immediate interrupt. If your enemy can no longer reach you, the enemy’s attack action is lost.

This works the instant the condition applies, interrupts it and prevents it from ever applying to you initially. So it works on daze/stun conditions.

Thanks for your patience there, Aegeri. I do understand your reasoning now. (It actually dawned on me just before I came back here but thanks for taking the time to point it out.)

It's a pretty tricky rule and the way immediate reactions and interrupts work is very often not very clear.
