Jun 01, 2010 14:47:52 I'm new to the Realms and was wondering: are there psionics in FR? I'm curious because it will influence what classes our new DM will allow in his game.

The Kingdom of Jhaamdath was Psionic, untill the Elves flooded them out to create the Vilhon Reach. It's now called the Vilhon Wilds in 4E.

Which edition you using?

Jun 01, 2010 14:53:02 The answer is most likely 'there are if your DM says there are', since he can include or exclude whatever he likes, regardless of whether or not it's canon. Canonically, from what I can scrape up off the Internet, yes, there are psionics in FR. They were the only reliable power source during the Spellplague, because arcane magic went wonky and the gods were too busy to worry about their earthbound acolytes.

ok, thanks for the info! i'm glad psionics is in FR because there are several PHB3 classes that I want to try out but haven't had the chance to.

Jun 01, 2010 15:55:24 During the Time of Troubles, one of the houses of Menzoberranzen tried to topple house Baenre because their psionics still worked.

Magadon, the ally of Erevis Cale used psionics as well.

I'm sure there are other examples, but those are good places to start :D

IIRC Elminster's Ecologies(The Boxset 2E) had a hidden Psionic City in the Thunder Peaks, or the Stormhorns.

Then you have Illithids in the Realms...

Jun 02, 2010 8:43:57 Just to clarify a little, the psiocracy of Jhaamdath was overthrown just a few years before the elves wiped out the nation, if I recall correctly. Beyond that, there was a lot of mention of folks with various wild talents out there, so there's a very solid base for saying that psionics have always had a place in the Realms, it was just usually overshadowed by the more flamboyant arcane casters of the world.
