Did WoTC ever create the stats for a 3/3.5 FRCS Purple Dragon? My 12 year old son asked me after reading through the FRCS and MM
I posted because it's a very busy time of year and I can't be arsed to look through all my sourcebooks - I'm expecting first post by Lord Karsus!!

The real original purple dragon was actually a black dragon. He simply was so old that his scales looked purple (same way an old humans hair turns white)

If you mean the Purple Dragon Knight, then yes, they have a prestige class in the 3e campaign book. If you mean an actual dragon then yeah pretty much on that one too. The 4e purple dragon is the 3e deep dragon.

-Apparently, in Dragon Compendium Vol. 1, stats and info for an actual Purple Dragon species was published (a species that would be different from the aforementioned Dragon). According to Wikipedia:
- Breath weapon: psychic
- Terrain: Underdark/caves
- Alignment: Lawful Evil
- Notes: Described in the Dragon Compendium Vol. 1
- Long, lean bodied dragons with deep purple to midnight black scales. These fancy themselves to be the lords of all dragonkind, believing themselves arisen from the long dead sister of Tiamat. They are among the most intelligent of dragons, able to gather and control vast numbers of minions. Their energy-related attacks make them powerful fighters.
These dragons love exploring more than any other type of dragon. especially if this exploring takes them deeper into the earth.

The defeat by Iliphar caused him to cede his claim of rulership of the Cormyr area to the elves, however he was not slain and still lived quietly for some centuries.
That is until he awakened during a rage of dragons and attacked the human realm of Cormyr (who had in the meantime gained rulership over the Cormyr area from the elves). He was slain by the current crown prince, his royal wizard and a huge army of war wizards and purple dragon knights.
I found this to be one of the worst parts of the novels, such a majectic creature like Thauglorimorgorus did certainly not deserve such an unglorious death. Even death during the battle with Iliphar would have been better for him
