| #1omegaphallicMar 14, 2011 23:24:43 | I read a little bit about Nadezhda on Candlekeep and how it was an Empire of Batrachi Doppelgangers. I am wondering if Brain plans to ever write an article on Nadezhda? Many have complained about Changeling/Doppelganger having little support such as feats and this would be a great way to solve that as well as giving some unique background on Doppelgangers in the Realms the way the Genasi artical did for Athas. Plus Many people are fancinated by the creator races, one of which Doppelgangers are a subrace/creation. So Brian can you give us any more info on Nadezhda and the doppelganger descendants please? |

Kolophoon, Boitumelo, and Nadezhda, along with Zhoukoudien and Pourounkorokale are all Batrachi Empires. I had briefly mentioned Zhoukoudien in my Candlekeep IV article, but I wanted there to be multiple batrachi nations represented on the map so the names were all pulled out of my head. |

If they wanted to bring it more into the present I had an idea that if they wanted to bring it more into the present they could have a secret alliance of Doppelganger clans devoted to resurrecting Nadezhda, maybe they see themselves as hiers and their alliance as a new Nadezhda, but one not based on geography, but rather a diapora nation based on culture and alliances, a shadow nation if you will. Doppelganger player stuff is very ebberon influenced, but FR has a very interesting history and flavour for the race of its own that deserves to be used. |

I guess that's is what happens when a god takes in interest in using a race of shapeshifters as a collective lab experiment![]() I wonder if the doppelgangers and kenku get along or hate each other given that the ancestors of the Kenku destroyed the doppelganger's empire. Or at least one of them. I believe at least one doppelganger built an empire of Minatuars. No offense to eberron which a great setting and the reason doppelganger is a playable race, but FRs version is really cool as well. Were in Eberron doppelgangers have no empires and few major known achievements and are only now building an independant cultural thanks to the warforged influence, abiet they have some cool philosphies and good info on reproductive physiology. In FR Doppelgangers had thier own Batrachi empire, bigger then most current human empires, thier own culture and arts, Batrachi magic, Batrachi Lords and a powerful history. I miss the love of realms lore of previous editions, along with the explorations of a deep history. 4e is fun, some of the changes are interesting, and the novels have alot of great writing, but they don't fix what went wrong in the FRCG. In 5e or even an updated FRCG Brian James and Matt James should be in charge of writing the next FRCG in order to fix the internal logic of the setting between editions and to add to the realms lore. |
