Rather odd question... what's the real-world equivalent of Zzar?

Aug 09, 2009 20:44:10 I apologise for this strange question, but it just wouldn't leave me. I downloaded Volo's Guide to Cormyr from the WoTC old edition archives (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads) and I was just curious about the recipe for Roast Gammon Pie.

In the list of ingredients, there's a footer noting that "dried flamefruit" can be substituted with "dried apricots", but there's also a mention of it requiring a half-cup of Zzar, which I know to be an alcoholic beverage from Faerun. I'm positive I've read somewhere that there's a real-world liquor that can be used in any Forgotten Realms recipe calling for Zzar, but I don't recall where or what it was. Can someone tell me?

I suppose it's strange in the culture of 2009 official D&D, but the fact that it's normal in the Realms suggests quite well what's great about Ed's world.
