Apr 10, 2010 9:55:35 Wouldn't that be Erik Scott de Brie? I haven't read downshadow yet, but Ghostwalker was definitely...if not, great...it was definitely one of the best reads I've had (not just referring to fantasy novels)
The setting, balance, pace, choice of words, character improvement was 1st class.

Should be in the Undermountain Boxed set. The Map of Level 1. Maybe the 3E Undermountain book.

Apr 11, 2010 10:39:38 Undermountain (and its first level Downshadow) has changed some in the last 100 years, but we've yet to detail exactly how much. I set the D&D Encounters adventure in Downshadow, in part so that lots of DMs could create rooms and chambers that could then be incorporated into an actual writeup. Who knows if/when that'll happen, however!

For the nonce, I recommend the 3.5 Adventure book, Expedition to Undermountain.

Although it doesnt specificaly say that they have houses or anything (doesnt say that they dont either), thats the way i envisioned it, kinda like Skullport, but not as nasty. I guess really if youre in a dungeon, you already have a roof over your head so you dont really need a house, not like you have to worry about getting rained on or whatever, but of course this is Undermountain we're talking about so anything is possible, and with Halaster's controlling influence gone, things are probably even more crazier down there.

As Downshadow (the novel) and the DDE adventure would have it, there are huts and lean-tos built of found materials (wood, stone, monster bone, etc), but less for actual shelter and more for fortification purposes. Think of it like a whole community of adventurers living between extended rests--they put up barriers for security against fellow Downshadowers, roving monsters, random disasters, etc.
