so Argonnessen was so cool in Eberron with all those dragons, that Forgotten Realms designers wanted also some cool Dragon lands..

if it has Eberron, Forgotten Realms will have it too!

It is a continent ruled mostly by dragons. That is where the similarities end.
The dragons from Abeir will begin to start the plans of taking over Toril any minute now...

And the whole of Eberron is Arcanum with dragons. You're quite correct, game designers do indeed borrow ideas from one another.

-The Forgotten Realms have the Dragon Baronies built into it's history, already.

Well...let see here...
Plaguelands = Mournlands
Spellscars = Dragonmarks(both are even blue....)

I know designers borrow( or get inspired by) other games ideas but does it have to be so in company...

-Optimus Prime (well and Rodimus as well, but who cares?)

Best wishes

I don't find Argonessen interesting at all

Sarlona in the Utter East, that's cool

You mean the Utter East where Five Kingdoms went to war with Artificers and armies of golems (manufactured on Blood Forges) and undead? :D

Sorry, but that's wrong. There may be similarities, but the distinctions start already when it comes to the races.

That's why it's called "generalization", and I dare anyone who's played Arcanum to claim that's not what they thought when they first heard what Eberron is like...

i like[ed] Forgotten Realms..
i like Eberron..
i like Arcanum.. and more

but, FR and Eberron were quite different worlds which was nice. FR was classical, still very cool fantasy world. Eberron is cool 'steam-technology-golems-train transportation' world quite very different from FR, that i begining to like Eberron even more coz it was 'new'..

now that some new stuff from 'post-nuclear' FR is very similar to Eberron stuff is kinda weird..

There is no steam-tech in Eberron.

Where?

Feh, you don't think Cannith has rigged fire elementals to make steam to power anything? At least to make a sauna?

But I definitely see "OK, it's still the Forgotten Realms you love! But now it also comes with all the nice Eberron goodness too!" as a sort of hidden message in the new FR.

Just takes away from both settings to combine them, in my mind.

EDIT: Hmm, what would be the best way to combine 'Eberron' with 'Forgotten Realms' into a single name, which results in being both slightly amusing and yet derogatory at the same time?

-The Forberron Realms?

Adar is the part of Yehimal, Riedra is to the west, except quori are fey, not aberrations, I'm sick of them, the tundra is a plateau of Yehimal

I don't like some of the realms there like Konigheim, Riedra and Adar have the eastern feel, at first Sarlona was Anchorome

I love the returned Albeir. It begs for my players, a group of Dragon Slayers from Faerun to invade and 'go berserk' in the evil dragon lands... We'll continue playing 3.5ed as there's so much more classes and races and magic to choose from, but otherwise keep FCSG 4E history and map. Hmm they probably have to sneak around as the human/oids of RA is afraid of dragons and don't dare even think of slaying dragons... :D

That's a bit too expensive, don't you think? Continual Flame torches or self-heating stones would be more like it.

And no, no steam-tech in Eberron. Magi-tech? Yes.

Forget Eberron, the dragon overlords are straight from DL :D . It's a shame that they felt the need to remove the unique qualities of the setting and replace with snippets of other settings.

People remember that Ed wrote the writeup for Abeir, right?

Well, whatever. I've read about Abeir, and my first impression was Council of Wyrms initially. However, there is a lot of stuff in there, and it's not like anything else, really. Oh sure, there are some simularities, but I think if you play with it, it'll end up feeling much different then anything else you've played with.

In anycase, play on.

FR and EBs continent of dragons can be considered to have been inspired by the Council of Wyrms product.
