Rights to write a novel in FR?

I would like to know what I am required to do / what permissions I should have and from who to write a novel in the forgotten realms worlds.

You DON'T 'get permission'... you get asked to submit ideas for a story to their novel dept.

Invitation only.

Even if YOU write it, THEY own it - it's their intellectual property. All you can do legally is write a story that sounds like it could take place in the Realms, and use your own characters and locales.
