RSE Retcons for the 8th Edition Realms in 2020

- Elminster was always the god of magic for both elves and humans. He has had many avatars and has gone by many names, including Corellon, Mystryl, Mystra, Mystranan, and the Simbul (not the Simbul of 3E and beyond, but the deity known as the Simbul).

- Drizzt's ascension and apotheosis is finalized, as he agrees to accept the Well of Eternity upon Lolth's demise. As the new deity of all Brownheart Fey and their subraces, he vows to fight the new evil deity of all Blackheart Fey, the merged Eilistraee-Kiaransalee, who will be known as Eiliansalee. She will have the deific domains of death, torture, dancing, and spider-killing. Her highest clerics will be called "Death Dancers". These events are detailed in the trilogy Black Hearts of the Drow, exclusively published in iFormat for the iPhone Razor.

- Realmsian deities have been reduced to 12 in the "Cynosure" timeline, which is the primary timeline from which all others branch. All interloper deities were killed in the final Bloodwar of the Abyss novel, including many primary deities of the Realms. Damage to the planes was contained by the greater deity Ptah (newly emerged from Amaunator's ashes, as the Harp of Halaster played the keynotes of universal creation during his death at the hands of Cyric... poor Cyric fails again!).

- It is revealed that Cyric and Shar killed Ao at the beginning of the crossover Amazon Kindle webcomic "Cynosure", which fractured the timeline into multiple alternate realities. At selected "fracture points" players can slip into various new worlds to explore, both ancestral and futuristic. This allows players to not only take their 8th edition PCs into other DMs' game worlds without worry of inconsistencies, but to have maximum fun with laser and fusion weapons transferred to medieval settings!

- The merging of cyberpunk and high magic is complete, as the world of Eberron and the world of Cyberpunk-v5 have merged with the twin worlds of Abeir and Toril. This reflects the final acquisition of two companies by our company, WotU (Wizards of the Universe, owned by Bandai-Fujikari-Hasbro), those of R. Taslorian and West End Games, finally making WotU into the largest publisher of RPGs in the world! This merged gaming world will allow multiple timeline alternate universe adventuring for maximum fun, mixing every genre as players have repeatedly requested.

- Look for your next update in neural reality gaming centers worldwide! Our objective is to provide the best nostalgic experience possible for tabletop RPG gaming. And don't forget to check out our modern gaming line, with the new neural chip line of MMORPGs, including NewYouReality, LiveAnyLife, and Warcraft Universes - with identCard payments possible from any major bank!

Maximum enjoyment, maximum fun! Super-sugeeeee! ;) :P ;)

-Would that be...Eilistraeealee?

-Phew. At least I retain my independence.

Karsus was retconned in 7th edition. His mortal form was merely an avatar of one of the mysterious "Those Who Sit Above In Shadow", who rule the multiplicity of overdeities (like Ao). The thus-far-unnamed "High Overdeity" felt that Mystryl (Elminster) needed an overhaul, and Ao could not refuse.

-Would that be...Eilistraeealee?

Eiliansalee. :P

-A bit high, don't you think?

Well, in 6th Edition there were only four. But people on the forum boards held a petition in 2012 and they were increased to 3047 deities for 7th edition. But many were interloper deities, like Ne Zha the Dragonslayer (there's still forum outrage over Ne Zha's slaying of the Midgard Serpent, thus preventing Ragnarok for the Norse Deities). Those are the vast majority that don't make it into 8th edition. ;)

According to their corporate manifesto, they should only be planning 7e in 2020.

Then again, they keeping shortening the time between editions, so 8e will probably come out a week after 7e.

I think your being too generous here - it will probably be called the The Aberrant Dragonborn Realms by then, and Elminster will have had at least two name changes, along with his complete back-story, and the Chosen were really the Final Ten in the Faerûnian Idol contest.

At which time, Simon and Randy become Archfiends, and Paula Abdul becomes the Goddess of incoherrent thoughts. 'Reality Crytal Ball' becomes all the rage by then as well, along with 'Drow Chicks Gone Wild'.

Oh, and Ao was really Cthulhu all along, and the Dragonborn star in their own cartoon series called Dragontails.

But Wizards of the Coast will not absorb new companies. In fact, all RPG PnP companies will be absorbed by Blizzard Entertainment as the failure of multiple PnP based on rules used by MMORPG will lead them to bankruptcy. The new PnP is seen as a complement rather than as competition of MMOs so they will come back to high realism and extremely complex rules that will slow gameplay... If you want fun, play an MMORPG!

I notice that you have completely glossed over the 5ed after-effects of LFR making real life gameplay canon. What? Did the idea of Teh Pwnzor reaching canon sanctioned god-hood bother you? Or maybe it was the death of Szass Tam at the hands of Bobby the Wondermage......

The Crown of thorns merges with - and takes the name of - the Crown Of Horns in 5e, so you should still be around in that form.

Then in 6e people just start calling it the 'Horny Crown', and things really start to turn into a party for you.

They call her Baastess in 6e... because she is the 'Baastest' thing around. :P

Loviatar merges with her as well by then, which should suit your more... shall we say, 'painful' tastes? ;)

You've got it all wrong. In 2020 the "Forgotten Realms" is a system independent campaign setting. The timeline they use differs from the 4e timeline by removing all the major RSE which happened after the Time of Troubles. And they expain it in a big adventures series with seven main adventures and several independent adventures, in which a group of heroes travelled into the past and changed history unwillingly (and stranded there).
The main rules used are either D&D 5e (which is mostly based on AD&D 2e), GURPS, RuneQuest or TDE.

Please start with the Dragonpeople that were Elmer's Glued into the new Realms. I'd like to see them burn most of all.
