Salvatore: The Last Threshold, Book IV of the Neverwinter Saga

Mar 15, 2013 14:18:27 I just finished reading R A Salvatore's latest novel, The Last Threshold, Book IV of the Neverwinter Saga. Yes, it is about Drizzt. Those who like Drizzt will probably like it and those who don't like Drizzt might cheer in spots, but probably won't like it. YMMV.

The main reason I posted this is the new insight about the Sundering. Bob put various hints about changes coming to the Realms (the Gods, etc.) and clearly the date for the start of the Sundering books is 1484 DR. As Bob had been putting in pieces of the post-Spellplague history ("pre-current/1479 DR) with the advance of the story of Drizzt, he made use of jump in time to end the book in 1484, "The Year of the Awakened Sleepers." (Not totally clear about Drizzt's fate from the book ending.)

Bob is writing the first book in the Sundering series, due out in August 2013, called the Companions I believe. Without providing spoilers, looking at the end of The Last Threshold and the blurb for the Companions, I think the next book will pick up from where Bob ended this book.

If we compare the start of the 4e era (1479 DR in 2008-09), then maybe 1484 is a year by year advance, or within one of that depending upon how you count.
