What was Sammaster's alignment? Have his stats ever been published?

-The Second Edition book "Cult of the Dragon"(Page 18, 26th level CE Lich Necromancer) and maybe the Third Edition Book "Dragon of Faerun". IIRC he is Chaotic Evil.

No, unfortunately there are no stats contained in it.

Thanks. I'm contemplating bringing him back as a ghost.

2e's Cult of the Dragon gave several sets of stats for various times in his life as I recall, though presumably Delta's are the most recent we have. Been a while since I read that one though.

-Yeah that was the last set of stats for him. The other two were Wizard 19 Chosen of Mystra, and Wizard 21 Chosen of Mystra.

-CE Necromancer 26 Ghost sound pretty Kick butt! 3E OR 4E Mister_Mxyztplk?

3.5e I haven't converted to 4e. Im actually not sure if converting would be worth while since they are publishing less sourcebooks and more adventures (I buy the books mostly for further detailing the settings).

I will probably keep him at level 26. Though he most likely gained some xp between 2e and 3e, he would have had to spend at least some of it to carry out his plans in the year of rogue dragons (summoning planar dragons and whatever else crazy dracolich-worshiping necromancers do).

Because ghosts have the magic items that are on their corpse (as well as a few other items that they were attached to in life), I will have a few dragon cultists spur what little of his remains could be salvaged to a tomb guarded by metallic half-dragon mummies he created in life (or unlife).

Sammaster will attempt to make for himself a new body. At the same time he may start searching for a patron to grant him a divine spark. A couple wishes could easily give him a new body like the one he previously had, so instead I want to have him imprison a prismatic dragon (a younger one, older ones are beyond even his power) and use its blood in a ritual that will end with his rebirth as a prismatic half-dragon.

Keveras, you did a fantastic job writing stats for a 4e Sammaster.

Really good 3e stats can be found here.

I do like the idea of giving him levels in archmage. This would allow for him to have a few necromantic spell-like abilities. Why would he have levels in Incantater? Not sure what I think of him being a pale master, he doesnt seem like the type to focus on his own transformation into undeath. Becoming a lich was merely a necessity to continue on after Lathander killed him. I think Sammaster is best stated as a wizard specialized in the necromancy school with perhaps some levels in archmage.

Wearer of Purple PrC (or whatever that CotD PrC was called, don't recall offhand) perhaps might be appropriate... or was that divine casting required too... memory is a bit hazy on the matter for some reason.

-The Wearer of Purple was the Cult of the Dragon PrC, yes.

I really did miss the obvious. 10 levels of wearer of purple are a must. Which domains would Sammaster be most likely to study? Im leaning towards Death and Dragon.

The FR wiki states that Sammaster was LE. Is this an error?

-Death and Dragon both sound like solid choices. Isn't there an 'Undeath' Domain? If so, that would work good too. I think there is...

-Oh, yes, most definitely. Sammaster was a crazy. Cult of the Dragon states that, after Mystra disavows herself of him, he's Chaotic Evil.

What a relief. A lawful evil Sammaster just sounds wierd.

-The Undeath Domain is on page 281 in the Spell Compendium book.
-I posted that Sammaster was CE, taken straight from a PDF of the 2E Book Cult of the Dragon. Wiki I have found to be somewhat unreliable.

I wasn't doubting you. A person can change alignment, though liches usually do not change much over time.

In the third book of the rogue dragon trilogy sammaster had an item that turned him into a dracolich. Does anyone know what that was?
