That is to say, must they be at night or in shadowy illumination? Just a partially lit room? Daytime in a forest, but underneath it's shadowy canopy, etc? It's very vague. I understand Daylight and so on will bust it, but in its natural state, in its simplest terms, its not expressed clearly. |

| #3maulornSep 05, 2008 17:45:54 | Shadowy Illumination would be like Darkness spell. Wow...shadowy illumination. OXYMORON!!! If I ever saw one...kinda like the sound of silence. |
| #4m-barkSep 05, 2008 18:42:28 | Shadowy Illumination would be like Darkness spell. Except that no person has ever "heard" actual silence. Even when it seems no sound is being made, you still hear a slight rushing sound coming from the blood in your ears. ![]() |
| #5zathressSep 05, 2008 18:53:10 | Shadowy Illumination would be like Darkness spell. No its not, its illuminated still rather dark, or shadowy, its an apt description for the situation that it applies to. Shadowy 1. Relating to or resembling a shadow. 2. Full of or dark with shadow. See synonyms at dark. 3. Lacking distinctness; faint. 4. Lacking substance; unsubstantial. And illumination is simply light, be it a candle or the daylight spell. |

| #7riven_t_mcguireSep 06, 2008 8:41:08 | I guess you cannot have shadow without light, otherwise that would be darkness. A shadow is darkess. A place where light absent. Even night time is one big shadow, that the world creates by turning its back towards the sun. Basically shades are like vampires. They can walk around in day time, but have to avoid direct sunlight. |
| #81_ton_ghostSep 06, 2008 11:29:48 | So apart from the meandering candella/illuminance physics debate (I think I read that in the PHB somewhere...wait, no I didn't ;) ), what I'm hearing is that Shades only get the ability mods, powers, the good stuff in short, in shadowy illumination or worse, yes? Normal shadowcasts at regular illumination won't cut it? I've seen other spells listings and mechanical descriptions that list nearby shadows and the like, but they kept it nice and grey for this race here. Daylight, magical or normal full exposure won't work, ok, got that. But are there any conditions during daytime or artificial illuminace in a residency, etc., where they could pull from some shadows? The Control Light power listed, is that enough to dampen levels of illuminance to adequate levels to insure full Shade powers? Being a (Su) or (Sp), not sure which, it's a Standard Action to use, yes? That being the case, does it have to be maintained to insure necessary dark/shadows? This is all very confusing in that its the usual vague screwjob as usual |
