| #1immayetiMay 06, 2008 13:59:13 | Im Interested in the idea of legendary spellcasting as was possible in the age of netheril. We can assume that the shadowweave was never gimped because of the mistakes of karsus due to the fact that, The king of shadows was able to bind himself to it and retain his power, if not his people and his sanity. Am I right or wrong in this assumption? |
| #2StiggerMay 06, 2008 14:22:21 | King of Shadows isn't considered canon, so I'm not sure if his existance and circumstances can really be called reliable in terms of D&D mechanics. As to the Shadow Weave being 'gimped', considering what happened to Mystra, I can't imagine Shar being foolish enough to allow for something like that to happen to her by not putting stops on the level of power that could be drawn upon via the Shadow Weave. That's officially anyway. Should you feel like taking away those probable safeguards in your own campaign, feel free to disregard what I just said and do it anyway. Gods know I've made drastic changes like that to my own campaign... |
| #3lord_karsusMay 06, 2008 23:16:34 | -King of Shadows? -Anyway, Shar grants casters the ability to tap into the Shadow Weave, and there sure isn't any way that she'd allow a mortal caster to cast magic powerful enough to drain her and her Weave, as True Dweomers did to Mystryl and the Weave. That said, do whatever you want. It's your game. |
| #4StiggerMay 07, 2008 1:15:02 | KoS is the BBG in NWN2's Official campaign, who supposedly merged with the Weave via some ritual that the mages of Illefarn (the human/dwarf/elf incarnation) who turned to the Shadow Weave when Mystra died during the ToT and his connection to the Weave was disrupted. It doesn't really make much sense in terms of FR lore, but it does make for a good adventure, if a bit heavy on the undead/shadow side of things. MotB was a much better adventure though, IMNSHO. |
| #5valgardMay 07, 2008 3:02:49 | The King of Shadows, according to NWN2, was a human that sacrificed his identity to become "The Guardian of Illefarn" by merging himself with the Weave, as Stigger says, but he then turns to the Shadow Weave when Karsus's folly, not the Time of Troubles. Don't tell me the story of Mask of the Betrayer... I'm actually playing it. ![]() |
| #6StiggerMay 07, 2008 12:15:28 | Was it Karsus? Oops... been a while since I played through that obviously. As to MotB, its a great one, so here's what happens.... :P :D Hold on a sec... the multi-racial Illefarn didn't even exist when Netheril was around afaik... how'd that work out? |
| #7lord_karsusMay 07, 2008 12:35:39 | -Oh, a video game. Okay...Hold on a sec... the multi-racial Illefarn didn't even exist when Netheril was around afaik... how'd that work out? -The answer? It doesn't really make much sense in terms of FR lore... |
| #8StiggerMay 07, 2008 15:51:44 | Heh, regardless, I wasn't expecting an error quite that glaring... :D At least Nasher was actually acting like the Lord of a city rather than... well, the way he was in NWN 1. |
| #9lord_karsusMay 07, 2008 17:17:37 | At least Nasher was actually acting like the Lord of a city rather than... well, the way he was in NWN 1. -What? When there's a plague of unknown origin that is resistant to priestly magic, I know I'd become a shut-in! :P |
| #10StiggerMay 08, 2008 0:31:45 | Shut-in, sure... bizarre acts that go completely against that whole Divine Champion of Tyr thing though? Sorry, but that's hard to swallow, given all of the descriptions I've ever read of him. |
| #11lord_karsusMay 08, 2008 10:28:36 | Shut-in, sure... bizarre acts that go completely against that whole Divine Champion of Tyr thing though? Sorry, but that's hard to swallow, given all of the descriptions I've ever read of him. -Eh, I never finished the game... |
| #12StiggerMay 08, 2008 12:14:59 | Can't really say I blame you... was kinda hard to choke down after the end of chapter 1 upon reflection. |
| #13lord_karsusMay 08, 2008 13:05:41 | -It sucks, I got the second game as a gift, but my PC, for whichever reason, can't handle it. I can install it, and get as far as character creation before the game crashes. |
| #14StiggerMay 08, 2008 14:19:51 | Ouch... that NWN2 then? Its something of a system resource hog at times... MotB made it a bit easier to run though, not that its much consolation. |
| #15rinonalyrna_fathomlinMay 09, 2008 18:00:29 | LK, did you try turning off shadows and grass? Stuff like that can really slow the game down to the point where it is unplayable. |
| #16lord_karsusMay 09, 2008 19:04:21 | LK, did you try turning off shadows and grass? Stuff like that can really slow the game down to the point where it is unplayable. -Yeah, I shut everything of, believe me. I recently erased a couple of largish programs on my computer, so maybe there's enough room/whatever now, for it to work. Hmm...Now I just need to find the actual disk... |

I hope you find it. ![]() I know there were stickied threads on the Bioware forums (NWN2 section) about how to get the game to run. You could try checking those, just in case. |
| #18lord_karsusMay 09, 2008 23:37:30 | -Gotta find it first! ;) -I'm sure it's in a box somewhere... |
| #19StiggerMay 10, 2008 1:10:10 | Most of the problems I had were because of the settings on my graphics card. Might try to set them to default to see if it runs with those, and then process of elimination as to what setting was screwing it if that's the issue. |
| #20green_elven_vampireMay 13, 2008 12:42:52 | NWN always screwed up my computer as well. That's why I play Elder Scrolls: Oblivion on PS3! It rocks!! |
| #21rauricMay 18, 2008 21:05:37 | I bought n up to date PC a year and a half ago and turned almost everything down on it and the game still froze up. It actually killed my buddies PC. He had to buy a new one. The odd thing is I have zero lag when I play WOW and some of my other friends get a bit of it here and there, but they had no problem running NWN 2. |
| #22StiggerMay 19, 2008 8:47:25 | Yeah, if nothing else, the problems with NWN 2 seem to be inconsistent rig to rig. I have hardly any problems with it these days myself... even with a bunch of stuff in the override. |
