Shopping List before Chult

In my Campaign the party is near going to the dreaded jungles of Chult. We are level 7, and will most likely be half way to level 9 when we actually get to Chult.

We're about to stop in a large port city of Vellum, apart of the nation of Amn.

Oh yeah forgot to mention this is in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.

I have around 5000gp, with a few items I could sell. I have a special Serpent Scale Armor, that I saw was base priced at 13,000gp in the MIC. Hoping to sell that.

I am a Duskblade that is focused on Dexerity. So anyways, I need help on a shopping list, what should I look for that will get the most bang for my buck?

Im already considering an Animated Heavy Shield (As my weapon is an Elven Courtblade, two handed.) But what else do you think I should get?

Give everything you don't need to the rogue.

Also don't forget to let the rogue do your dealing since he gets +14 on diplomacy and owes you for the resurrection on tuesday. Also don't forget the "buttload" of gems we got that we will need to sell, that'll add to your pool.

If I were you I would invest in some buffing magic items. You could get some items of Cat's Grace or Bull's Strength to either increase damage or increase accuracy (I can't remember if your having trouble hitting when you channel and I don't know your base attack bonus for dusk blade). That or convince the cleric or druid to give you a boost before battles, I'm thinkign about asking the druid for a cat's grace before fights, too bad I won't get more AC though since my armor limits me to +3.

You might want to get a healing belt even though the party already has one, its a better invenstment then the potions you'd have to buy. Especially considering we probably won't be able to restock easily.

Mage Armor potions are only 50gp, they give +4ac for 1hr/level. Might be kinda funny if we all used one and see what the DMs reaction is.

Maybe if you stop dancing with Fire Giants I wont have to Res you!

And to punch some holes in your plan the mage armor potion does not stack with any worn armor, so its useless if you wear any real armor. Also Scrolls of Cat's Grace are only 150gp, if you have your use magic device up high enough you could easily buy a few of those.

Im tempted to get a Healing Belt much like yours, as it is so cheap, although im hoping for Mithril Breastplate and the Animated Shield by bartering the serpent Armor.

Also look at the Magic Item Compendium, and checkout Deathstrike Bracers, you'll like em.

Dig around in dungeonscape for a few good items. Arms and Equipment has verminbane and stone breaker. get some. Also a few clearwater tablets (Comp. Adv. I think). Get a light slashing and piercing weapon. A throwing axe and dagger should do. Getting tangled in vines or swallowed is no fun. Some form of a shelter spell could be useful. Leomund has an okay set, rope trick is superb, but if you have a big party (players, npcs, mounts, etc) Then Heroes of Battle has a great spell for lodgings.

Advise against heavy armor, cause it's hot down there.

Check the Far Corners of the World in the D&D archives. It had items and spells for specific environments, including jungles and swamps.

I'll admit im not really looking for Region Specific items, I just said Chult to put home the fact that the chances of spending any gold/wealth will be severly limited once we get to Chult.

Just looking for items and such that will boost a Duskblade!

Advise against heavy armor, cause it's hot down there.

Well said. Everyone is often going, "Oh, get this, you'll kill things awesomely, bal bla bla." But they forget things like weather, sleep, and time. The constant variables that don't randomly get generated like monsters.

To that end, I would highly advise everyone in the party get something w/ Endure Elements on it. One day, you're in a sticky hot jungle, the next, some sub-arctic Hell hole like the Spine of the World. Be prepared.

-Restful Armor (Dungeonscape), 500gp. Lets you sleep in Med/Heavy. This is major, especially in a high ambush-like climate (jungle) of Chult. You'll never be able to get your armor on in time. There's a ring in MgcItmCmp that does this but more. Very nice. Ring of Arming IIRC.
-Mosquito netting (FRCS). Malaria sucks. Either netting or start drinking a lot of gin (quinine) ;).
-Area attack stuff/bashing weapon vs. likely swarms (insects, bats, etc).
-Anti-tox. You can never have too much, especially in jungles (many poisonous critters lair here). Healer's Kit as well.
-Wait for the Animated Shield (too pricey @ your level). Darkwood Heavy Shield for now or Mithral if you have wood-attack concerns. Just get more AC buff things of different bonus types to keep cost down. Amulet, Ring, perhaps an Armor Augment Crystal, etc.

Bracers of Brachiation are absolutely made for jungles!

I suggest a Ring of Sustenance with Endure Elements on it as a kicker. Price about 3000 gp.
You won't need to eat...or carry rations.
You won't need to drink...or carry a water supply.
You need only sleep two hours a night. Very hard to ambush you. More travel time.
You are immune to elemental extremes of temperature. Hot, cold, wet, dry...whatever.
get this, and then start enchanting it with your Ring of Protection effects, etc. this ring makes you an adventurer, not needing the things mere mortals do.

Oh, good call. I didn't think to measure the jungle canopy and 'z' plane, but yeah, it's perfect for that end. Probably better than Fly in some regards; little room to zig or zag.
No one takes the feat, but I was always curious to see some hot shot elf sniper pull that off in a dense forest and go to town w/ a ranged weapon. Jungle is even moreso; extra cover, concealment, climbing attempts, etc.

I suggest a Ring of Sustenance with Endure Elements on it as a kicker. Price about 3000 gp.

That flirts w/ the pragmatist style of play me & many of my players often engage, particularly early in their careers. It just means less book keeping IRL @ the table which keeps our heads in the other world...where they should be. Removing accounting minutia and "having to worry about 'x' again and 'y' every so often" gets rid of that stress and downtime wasted negotiating weight and other independent variables ppl often conveniently forget.

Your ring, a HH Haversack or Bag of Holding, Travel Cloaks, 24 hr light sources, things like that. Comforting, easy and vital.

For the ring...

Would the endure elements be a constant effect?

And how could you make such an item? In wich book is it?
I defenetely want one! =D

Yeah, its permanent. Cost is cheap cuz' it's a 24 hr effect.
Travel Cloak (MgcofFaerun), very cheap. Around 1k gp IIRC.
There are other other items that bestow it as well. Best bet is to peruse MgcItmCmpd (you shoudl get it anyway, veyr comprehensive). All the Endure Elements effects bestowed are permanent and super cheap. But, for what it's does in the big picture, well worth it.

Hmm..

How do I tell my DM it's okay to put that Endure Elements if I only got access to Core?

Document the item(s) from a .pdf and go, "Hey, DM, look here! It's legit."
When I get home from work, if you'd like, I can dig through my books and get you a source for it (PM post). Be specific, let me know what it is you want and cost range.

If it's just Endure that you're after or more. ex) Travel Cloaks grant it permanently while worn but also grant enough food & water for a full day. Furthermore, it'll turn into a 1 person tent. This was a 3.0 item though so consider a Ring of Sustenance's price and what it does, the a plain vanilla Endure Elements cloak around 1k gp, etc.

see if the rogue can use the serpent scale armor.

get items of fire resistance, just to deal with the heat if you plan on using heavy armor.

get potions of antidotes in bulk at the local thayan enclave.

items of poison immunity or items of throw increasing.

and I give a piece of advice, dont feed the local flora or fauna. they like to eat you or enslave you......
