Hello all,

I search a humanoid creature from the D&D3.5 Edition basic rules or Forgotten Realms campaign.

It should be small, medium or large and should have the ability to fly with wings with a maneuverability of good or better, but it may not be a creature with a template.

If it has natural armor - even better.

Does anybody have a good idea?

Thanks for any suggestion ...

kir-lan( misspelled)

aasimars with outsider wings
tiefling with outsider wings.

avariel
fey-ri

no templates, that may not work to much

edit: I dont consider aasimar, tieflings and fey'ri to be templated, even the the rules say otherwise)

Is a LA race ok? Pixies aren't bad if you start at levels where they have double-digit hit points. You actually even have a +1 natural armor, though imo the constant improved invisibility and the DR/cold iron will be more useful. If you don't mind a non-human anatomy, a pseudodragon can be an interesting choice for an ECL 5.

Thanks for the fast reply.

LA or not is not a matter, since I search this race as a "target" for altering myself with "Alter self".

So, I need a race with type "Humanoid", since I am also.

And with this spell I'd profit from Natural Armor, racial skill bonus and racial feats - from nothing else. And I'd need wings and the good or better maneuverability.

The first thing that jumped to my mind were the Kir-lanan.

You have Gargoyles, along with their derivitives, Margoyles and Kopoacinths. I think the Kir-Lanan are supposed to be the 3e version of Margoyles, BTW (because the old name blew chunks).

You also have Pterrafolk from Chult, and their little cousins, the Saurial Flyers.

I believe some Lizard Kings (Lizardman Tieflings) are winged. In fact, you can pretty-much say anything has a fiendish heritage and slap some wings on it.

Urds also come to mind - small and weak (flying Kobolds), but not bad in swarms.

Lizard Kings are Lizardmen with the Half-Fiend template added to them. Some could have wings if they were Large sized. IIRC.

Hmm, I think Avariel are your best bet. Most of the others tend to be outsiders or fey... I'm not sure about the kir-lanan but I doubt they were humanoids.

Hmmmm.... once again D&D terminology redefines the English language.

I had just been thinking in terms of the body configuration - I hadn't realized he was actually looking for 'type'.

My bad. :embarrass

-Savage Species has the 'Winged' template, which can be added to pretty much anything, giving them wings.

As far as the alter self spell is concerned, you can only take the shape of creature of your own type (in this case Humanoid) of 5 HD or less. Regarding suitable forms that can fly, I think there's only the Avariel: flight 50ft, and no natural armor. Everything else is a monstrous humanoid or some other type.

Hope your DM isn't as me and demands you're character to have intimate knowledge of the creature you turned into. Just hearing from avariel won't work when you want to cast alter self to change into one. Avariel are quite a rare sight even in the areas they habit (Spine of the World mountains?).

Wanted to advise the more prosperous aaracocra or kenku as candidates but they are flying monstrous humanoids aswell.

-Well, it is kind of hard to turn into something you've never heard of before.

Spontaneous occurrence?

Spontaneous occurrence?

-Not while casting an Alter Self/Shapechange/Polymorph spell, without it being somehow impacted by outside stimuli.
