| #1sfdragonOct 22, 2009 1:23:41 | Twinkle, does anyone think it became a radiant weapon in his most recently book he stared in??
|
| #2gadrenOct 22, 2009 1:29:48 |
No, I think that Cadderly just cast a spell on it. Like some variation of Weapon of the Gods. |
| #3The_SilverswordOct 23, 2009 1:29:05 |
You called it buddy! Twinkle is indeed radiant. They just put out Drizzts official stats in a Dungeon article. And Icingdeath is obviously a cold weapon, his bow is force. |
| #4DiffanOct 23, 2009 8:20:01 | So we're talking about stats that appear elsewhere besides the "Character Generator"? PS. Did they make him a PC, NPC, or Monster? As in, do they mention feats and class features or just attack/utility powers in his stats? |
| #5sfdragonOct 23, 2009 12:06:53 |
So he is stated now....... complete with what powers?????
darn.
wonder should I buy it???
join the hands of the triad
|
| #6angelus_obscuraOct 23, 2009 12:41:09 | And why all-of-a-sudden is twinkle radiant? It doesn't have that property in any previously known source book or novel. It glows, yea, but not with radiance that really messes with such creatures as undead. I'm not that surprised really, or care if deals radiant damage or not. Even in 3E, Twinkle was known as a powerful magic item that emits light, so it's not that far of a stretch to allow radiant dmg into the mix. Query: Is Twinkle like the sunblade in that it can switch into randiant dmg mode or is the radiance just a daily or encounter power? |
| #7StiggerOct 23, 2009 14:21:17 | Most enchanted weapons shed light in previous editions... and it was a Defender weapon, +4 or +5 in previous editions. Radiant is just kind of weird. Meh, whatever though, not like I really care one way or another. |
| #8The_SilverswordOct 23, 2009 16:40:48 |
I dont know but its radiant now. they got him statted as a npc or i guess it could be a monster stat? whats the difference? Yes they do have class fetures in there.
Yes the radiant damage can be turned off, like the sunblade.
well hes got multi attacks of course, and a beast master type one with Guenhwyvar, neutalizing parry, blind fighting, and undisturbed stride. |
| #918DELTAOct 23, 2009 22:14:55 | Yepper, he is still a munchkin... |
| #10sfdragonOct 23, 2009 22:17:02 | well I cant wait to see Emtreri's Stats. He was a muchkin too |
| #11The_SilverswordOct 23, 2009 22:17:54 |
What makes you say that? the 700+ hit points? Another thing i forgot to bring up is they give him Dark Vision. I thought drow got low-light now>? |
| #12marius4Oct 24, 2009 1:57:37 | He's munchkinite tough because he's designed as a solo encounter, i.e., the party faces just him. Guenhwyvar is technically rolled in as "equipment." NPC & monster stats are both built in the same manner in 4e. If an NPC needs stats, it's b/c it may see battle as a "monster" fighting the PCs. (That's different, of course, from statting an NPC up just cause you want to.) I think most energy weapons now can be turned on and off at will. IIRC the uber-awesome brilliant energy weapons of yore were adapted similarly but include an encounter or daily power that lets them ignore AC or something like that. This article seems like a cool way to feed the stat-hungry gamers and those wanting news or focus on olden time characters. |
| #13The_SilverswordOct 24, 2009 4:26:09 | Yes i liked the article and hope to see more like them, Im dyin to see Elminsters stats. |
| #1418DELTAOct 24, 2009 7:33:00 | So they made a DDI article up about him...I would rather have an article about the Dales or something useful. |
| #15The_SilverswordOct 24, 2009 7:39:00 |
That would be cool too. I do hope they continue giving us stats for major characters and Realmslore articles on various regions and deities. What they really need to do is just make a whole magazine devoted entirely to the Realms! |
| #1618DELTAOct 24, 2009 7:59:10 | I could care less about the NPC's. They start statting NPC's, then we will have the Elminster overshadows my Munchkin PC crap that gave us the 4E Realms. |
| #17The_SilverswordOct 24, 2009 8:09:27 |
Right, right. I see what youre saying. Still im intersted in seeing their stats, not that i would ever use them. I see no reason to put pcs up against Drizzt or Elminster, Unless i wanted to kill them off. |
| #18StiggerOct 24, 2009 16:10:24 | Oh gods... they're officially statting out NPCs again? And here I thought they said they were going to avoid that this edition. Hope we avoid the whining "(insert NPC here) suxxorz" threads that happened with 3e. I still remember that guy who made that thread to inform us he'd killed Elminster, so to take note of it for our games... (okay, sure, it was probably (hopefully) a joke, but still...) |
| #19LordManshoonOct 24, 2009 16:30:42 | I still remember that guy who made that thread to inform us he'd killed Elminster, so to take note of it for our games... (okay, sure, it was probably (hopefully) a joke, but still...) That wasn't Beta, was it? I remember he created that "How to Stat and Kill Ao" thread under one of his cute little puppet names. This El thread sounds like something up his alley. |
| #20The_SilverswordOct 24, 2009 17:55:11 | Still I am interested in seeing major characters stated out. I have no plans to use Drizzt anytime soon, but i regulary used Elminster. What they really should do is stat up more Realms monsters. I want some 4e Wemics. And i Want some Saurials. Seems like they always get the shaft in every edition. Atleast they did have that web enhancement for Serpent Kingdoms. I guess as far as that goes and stating NPCs that could all be homebrewed, but Im lazy. |
| #2118DELTAOct 24, 2009 18:24:56 |
What are you talking about, the Realms got the shaft in this edition... |
| #22Demetri_KnighthawkOct 25, 2009 3:56:58 | in the old editions, twinkle was a defender scimitar (+3 or +4 I forget) and the blade would "flare" to warn him, hence the defender property. |
| #23LordManshoonOct 25, 2009 10:32:55 | Question: Does the article mention Taulmoril? I want to know if Drizzt can actually use that bow, or if he's making a vain attempt of keeping Catti-brie's memory alive. |
| #24The_SilverswordOct 25, 2009 13:58:15 |
Yes indeed. Drizzt has the bow. |
| #25nightseerOct 26, 2009 0:51:06 |
Oh Shar, I could just imagine the whinning Drizzty will be doing in 1479. Please RA just kill Drizzty off and be done with it. |
| #26angelus_obscuraOct 26, 2009 2:01:51 | Oh Shar, I could just imagine the whinning Drizzty will be doing in 1479. Please RA just kill Drizzty off and be done with it. You forget one thing, brother mine. Shar would be greatly empowered by the grief of Drizzt, one of the greatest heroes of Faerun (Mielliki). Let Drizzt whine, let him cry bitter tears. His loss is Shar's gain. ![]() |
| #27LordManshoonOct 26, 2009 9:10:04 | His loss is Shar's gain. His loss is WOTC's profits imploding. |
| #28StiggerOct 27, 2009 10:46:24 | *snickers* |
| #29IluvrienOct 28, 2009 12:13:08 | I'm with Stigger and the others. I cannot believe that they are stating Character NPCs again considering the steady torrent of people referencing that blasted Overshadowing argument time and again in the previous edition (I only started reading these boards then) and probably before. Furthermore I cannot believe that magazine space was given to this over any one of the dozen or so Backdrop articles that could have used it, in my opinion, a damn sight better. Especially considering how little support FR still gets in the magazines. |
| #3018DELTAOct 28, 2009 14:14:49 |
+5 I guess they statted Drizzit up because of the Ghost King. Gotta sell those novels |
| #31XunValDorl_of_HouseKilsekNov 01, 2009 0:08:26 |
Thats the only reason Drizzt is still around. He makes money. |
| #32StiggerNov 02, 2009 8:52:50 | Which, one must admit, is a pretty compelling reason for most companies... |
| #33sfdragonNov 02, 2009 15:04:35 | hey I like Drizzt. you dont, thats fine, dont buy the novels that he is in. |
| #34SavevsDeathNov 02, 2009 18:02:10 |
Which he makes because people like him, and not everyone is a rabid board-dwelling hater of anything popular. Seriously, im sick of the Drizzt-bashing threads. Find some other popular character to despise for a while. |
| #35XunValDorl_of_HouseKilsekNov 02, 2009 18:10:20 |
They could at least give the illusion that they are not dragging out the character to make money. After a while the books become boring because you know they aren't going to kill him off. And besides Artemis Entreri is a hell of a lot better. |
| #36SavevsDeathNov 02, 2009 18:47:25 | Why do you not want WotC to make money? Does any other company refuse to use thier hot, profitable IP's because some people hate them? No. They don't. And if you hate the character so much, just don't buy books featuring him or read material with him in it.
|
| #37XunValDorl_of_HouseKilsekNov 02, 2009 18:59:36 |
And Drizzt has been lucky since what the early 1990's if I remember? Yeah a charcater may be popular but when you have to start dragging crap out of the air to keep the story going then it's time to retire that character. Look at all the characters from the Realms who went out with a bang that were popular: All of Mystra's Chosen were popular and only two survived, Halaster Blackcloak, Manshoon, and a few others. Even a popular character can meet their death. Drizzt hangs on like a stubborn virus. Drizzt was cool in the beginning byt there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. |
| #38The_SilverswordNov 02, 2009 19:37:36 | Well people are still buying Drizzts novels so they must be doing something right. I personally havnt read a Drizzt novel since the Crystal Shard I think it was, but the latest novel sounds pretty interesting and some of the gap in the time line apparently gets filled in so I'm gonna have to check it out. |
| #39sfdragonNov 02, 2009 19:56:53 | I've read almost all of them. paths of darkness is the only one I havent read.
and the ones wwriten by RAS's son doesnt count |
| #40XunValDorl_of_HouseKilsekNov 02, 2009 21:09:38 |
In my opinion it's probably the die hard Drizzt fans that keep coming back. You know like when you find a grocery store or a hair stylist that you like you keep going back no matter what. It took me alittle while to break away from the D&D novels and try comething else. Of course I have read The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and Elric of Melnibone but it was hard moving away from the D&D ones. Then I started reading the Dresden Files and I haven't looked back since. |
| #4118DELTANov 02, 2009 23:32:02 | I would gripe and complain about other Realms NPC's. But WotC went and took most of them away, and the ones that are left are so covered in NDA's that the CIA doesn't even know what they are doing in 1479...
|
| #42StiggerNov 03, 2009 5:13:27 | Indeed... better to just ignore the existance of the novels and find your bliss in the process. |
| #43darth_k-travaNov 03, 2009 17:02:05 | I've read a decent chunk of the novels but by no means anywhere near all of them. And I do enjoy Drizzt novels, in small (one book every several months or so) doses. Tried to read as many of them as I could after getting a bunch signed by RAS one time he was here for a convention but soon was burnt out for a while... |
