| #1Charles_PhippsAug 14, 2008 19:30:45 | Hypothetically speaking. Honestly, I don't like Sehaine and honestly don't see any reason for her to exist. However, Talos and Gruumsh are so different that it's difficult for me to reconcile them. |
| #2meldreadAug 14, 2008 20:29:13 | - All of the Elemental Gods into one uber Chaotic Deity of all the elements who wants to rend the universe apart back into its individual parts. - Gargauth and Bane, Tiamat (let Gargauth take their stuff). - Garagos and Gruumsh. - Uthgar and Tempus. - Red Knight and Valkur. - Lurure, Shiallia, Mielikki, Gwaron Windstorm. - Amaunator and Siamorphe. - Shar and Beshaba. - Selune and Tymora. - Ilmater and Eldath. Among many others. I am not saying they should merge them, I am saying they COULD be merged. |
| #3lord_karsusAug 14, 2008 20:31:10 | - All of the Elemental Gods into one uber Chaotic Deity of all the elements who wants to rend the universe apart back into its individual parts. -This, I don't like in the Forgotten Realms, but, it's a very appealing notion for something else. |
| #4meldreadAug 14, 2008 20:47:47 | Well I figure it made about as much sense as the Abeir thing... plus it matched the theme of the Elemental Tempest or whatever they're calling it, which would be this beings divine realm. I am still not sure how they're integrating the Elemental Tempest into the FR cosmology considering all the elemental deities hate each other. :P "Hey, guys. We know you hate - ho... hold on Kossuth don't burn down the WotC HQ. We just want to talk. Look, uh, you see. There has been a few changes made. You all will be sharing a home now. How cool is that, huh? Huh? Bunkmates!" [The poor WotC intern is roasted alive by Kossuth.] |
| #5lord_karsusAug 14, 2008 20:58:10 | -Think of the destruction... |
| #6meldreadAug 14, 2008 21:44:05 | You know, I'm trying to imagine what a god that is made up of all four elements would look like... here is the first image that came to mind. It'd basically be some type of freakish mud monster in a humanoid form, standing 10 feet tall. All over it's body would be gas bubbles - like huge looking sores - that appear, grow larger, then 'pop' and as they do so burst into flame. (Think flammable gas.) That's the best I can do at the moment. :P Mud = Earth + Water Bubbles = Air Fire = Fire :P |
| #7lord_karsusAug 14, 2008 21:55:17 | -Hmm...Air, Earth, Water and Fire... -There'd be lava in there. That could constitute Earth, Water, and Fire. Lava and steam, to get Air in there? |
| #8meldreadAug 14, 2008 22:08:35 | Hm. I guess he could be a lava-like humanoid beast (fire and earth), that gets bubbles over his body, which expand, and eventually explode into hot air and steam. |
| #9lord_karsusAug 14, 2008 22:10:37 | -It does work, but, I don't know. With it being made of lava, it just seems like fire is being emphasized too much. Maybe it has the a similar problem that the mummy in The Mummy III has. Keeping stationary for too long long causes it's lava to harden, encasing it in rock that must be broken before it can become mobile again. |
| #10IluvrienAug 14, 2008 22:15:10 | My image would be of a creature with the "bones of the earth" or even bones of earth. A Skeletal frame of rock with a translucent watery skin with possibly points of flame for the heart (or just in the centre of the chest), eyes and gouts of dancing flame for the hair even as shifting clouds of smoke or mist or steam are exuded from its surface wreathing it. Or possibly organ shapes and nerve networks traced in fire beneath the liquid skin. I just don't see a mud monster I guess. |
| #11meldreadAug 14, 2008 22:18:36 | Iluvrien- That rocks. That actually sounds scary. Like some freakish elemental undead skeleton. I could totally imagine that opening its mouth and just -blowing- out fire. |
| #12IluvrienAug 14, 2008 22:25:17 | My idea was that it's every exhalation would almost be a gout of flame... little tongues rolling out from its mouth as it blew out... when it shouted... well, you would want to be holding marshmallows on sticks ;). And anger wouldn't be hard to recognise as the flamelight from inside increased, and as it was diffracted through the liquid skin you would have permanently shifting patterns of light moving though the mist/smoke. It just seemed good old fashioned blooming terrifying elemental seriousness. Neither good nor evil but a very imposing presence. |
| #13meldreadAug 14, 2008 22:30:36 | Yes, I imagine the being would largely be Chaotic Neutral (or under the 4E system rules Unaligned). He'd hate gods for meddling in the elements and shaping the cosmos with them - as if they had stolen from him what was rightfully his - and thus, he'd be dedicated to deconstructing the cosmos one element at a time. Like, I could imagine him walking in a grassy forest, and all the liquid in the plants being literally sucked out, becoming shriveled husks as the liquid returned to his skin. Then the shriveled husks burst into flame to return to the earth from which they sprang. :P But yes, I'd imagine such a being as being utterly terrifying to come into contact with. |
| #14IluvrienAug 14, 2008 22:34:23 | Like, I could imagine him walking in a grassy forest, and all the liquid in the plants being literally sucked out, becoming shriveled husks as the liquid returned to his skin. Then the shriveled husks burst into flame to return to the earth from which they sprang. :P Amazing, I think this is the first time you and I have ever been on exactly the same page, Meldread. I certainly wouldn't want him in my vinyard... but a quick appearance might do wonders for increasing the PCs laundry bill, if you know what I mean. ;) [EDIT: Or maybe not just a him... maybe a her would be as or even more scary... literally eyes and hair afire.... or a skeleton with watery flesh shifting between the two. Who knows] |
| #15lord_karsusAug 14, 2008 22:41:39 | -There's just something about making it amorphous, though, that's so appealing! ![]() -And, what the hell does it call itself? Grumbar + Akadi + Istishia + Kossuth = Grakisuth? Akumkobar? Iskogrumadi? Kobarakishia? |
| #16IluvrienAug 14, 2008 22:46:51 | -There's just something about making amorphous, though, that's so appealing! True, although I had thought of the watery flesh as amorphous. Not something constrained to the skeleton but flowing over it and the fire within it. Manipulation of the water into proboscis of unnatural lengths or projectiles... and the coup de grace coming when it got really peeved and it was revealed that the water was to protect you as it flashed into clouds of steam amid an ever more intense conflagration as the steam sheathed burning skeleton with flames erupting from every bone-free void stalked towards you... ..Ahhh, happy days. |
| #17meldreadAug 14, 2008 23:41:36 | Ahhh... I love this creature. It is completely horrific yet interesting at the same time. You want to look, but you also want to run. It's compelling AND frightening. Kograkis? Akkogris? It uses the first two letters of each deities name. :P It sounds kinda alien, but... I guess such a being would be. |
| #18meldreadAug 14, 2008 23:44:21 | Also, remember that the human body is roughly 65% water. ;) Imagine what this thing could do to you. It'd leave you like a shriveled husk, completely drained, and whatever is left would burst into flame. |
| #19Harn_WinterfellAug 15, 2008 1:40:06 | I believe the name you are looking for is.....CAPTAIN PLANET!! |
| #20warweaverAug 15, 2008 2:21:48 | I believe the name you are looking for is.....CAPTAIN PLANET!! Nah, then he'd have to have Heart, too. :P When reading the skeletal-ish description for this guy, I was reminded of a short scene in Fern Gully where - well it's probably just easier to linkit. It's at 3:00 - though of course I'm re-imagining that with all 4 elements. As for name, I've always thought Kossuth's was the coolest-sounding, so if they just kept that I wouldn't mind. ![]() |
| #21KhaeliethAug 15, 2008 3:47:18 | - Red Knight and Valkur. Strategy and sailing? Sun and nobility? Moon and luck? And Tiamat's a dragon godess, in addition to tyranny. The main reason for me disliking the merging of Sehanine and Selûne are the lore differences. |
| #22meldreadAug 15, 2008 7:35:22 | Valkur the god of tactics, strategy and naval combat. Amaunator the god of the sun, rulership, purification through fire, crusades and vigilance against evil. Selune the goddess of adventurers, good fortune, the moon, stars and prophecy. Gargauth the god of betrayal, cruelty, corruption, tyranny, hatred, fear and greed. Notes: I like Amaunator as a smite happy god that goes out and hunts evil folk, or anyone who stands against his divine plan to reshape the world and eradicate any he considers evil. Burn 'em. Purifying the world one crispy heretic at a time. Of course, he'd also have his church preach on divine right of rulership - the only monarchs and rulers that can lead would be those chosen by his Church. Think of him as a much more... proactive... Horus-Re. Tiamat never held the portfolio of tyranny and her main portfolio was that of greed. She has always been a rather minor goddess in the Realms, though I could certainly do good things with her. I would kill Bane and give her his stuff if I could, however Gargauth and his story, and the fact that he is a former exiled Arch Devil, seems to make him most suited to taking up Banes role. |
| #23KhaeliethAug 15, 2008 7:54:34 | Valkur the god of tactics, strategy and naval combat. Point more was that Red Knight was sorta the Patron Saint of Tethyr, and she probably didn't know what an oar was. IMO, I just don't think Selûne and Tymora are that much alike. Gargauth and Bane, yep, but Tiamat was also the Queen of Chromatic Dragons. And she's got some Tyrant thingy going as well tbh. |
| #24Charles_PhippsAug 15, 2008 15:07:35 | If I had to do a really weird adventure, I'd reveal that Gruumsh is actually NE and he's in fact Bane and Hextor.![]() The whole "Deities of three" thing with Bhaal and Myrkul was actually just him, Orcus, and Talos screwing around. |
| #25lord_karsusAug 15, 2008 18:45:46 | Strategy and sailing? Sun and nobility? Moon and luck? And Tiamat's a dragon godess, in addition to tyranny. -When you're trying to merge things as much as possible, things don't need to make 100% sense. |
| #26warweaverAug 15, 2008 19:29:05 | -When you're trying to merge things as much as possible, things don't need to make 100% sense. Whaaaaat. LK behind something that causes lore discrepancies! It's the beginning of the end! Hell has frozen over! Dogs and cats livin' together! |
| #27lord_karsusAug 15, 2008 19:43:25 | Whaaaaat. LK behind something that causes lore discrepancies! It's the beginning of the end! Hell has frozen over! Dogs and cats livin' together! -I didn't say I was behind it. I was just saying that it doesn't have to make sense, when you are doing for the reason of merging things for simplicity's sake. |
| #28warweaverAug 15, 2008 20:49:50 | -I didn't say I was behind it. I was just saying that it doesn't have to make sense, when you are doing for the reason of merging things for simplicity's sake. Fair nuff. :P |
