| #1gallameedMay 26, 2008 0:31:06 | Spellplague and the big leap forward in years! what does your group intend to do with their current characters? I may retire mine and play a son or daughter of one of my friends chars instead. |
| #2reneshatMay 26, 2008 0:42:22 | I've been in groups where we've done second or third generation descendants of characters before. Those times at least half of the party were new, with connections to the descendants but not the original adventurers, and most of the players were playing descendants of friends characters rather than their own (only one exception, but both characters were ridiculous Mary Sues for him.) It was lot's of fun and added an interesting dynamic to the game. Unfortunately I don't have a Realms game going at the moment, so I won't be doing it this time with the Spellplague. |
| #3sfdragonMay 26, 2008 0:58:22 | killing of some and sending others through andrio's gate |
| #4drew1369rMay 26, 2008 1:15:36 | being that my group is still in the year 1373 we are continuing like normal... just because WotC said so doesn't mean you have too |
| #5BelorinMay 26, 2008 1:27:22 | My favorite characters I will reconcept for 4E, going to be interesting as I will be using the new m/c rules for at least two. The others may get new classes and/or races. Bel |
| #6alkasynMay 26, 2008 4:00:09 | Playing further as we're not switching, but if we were, I'd just retire my Cleric of Helm but leave my Fey'ri, who in 1479 would just be entering late-adulthood ![]() |
| #7suin_bahhar_02May 26, 2008 6:31:58 | One of my groups is playing in winter of 1373, the other in highsummer of 1374. Got some time to fill and at the speed we play at it'll take another 8 years before we get to 1385. As a DM I get to decide the fates of my players characters heheh. I intend to play a few sessions through the actual spellplague event. But I fear the bodycount of the divine catastrofe will be quite high. member: ; presumed location during death of mystra: ; survival chance: Team1 female human cleric6/diviner2 of Helm, Maztica, Chult or Amn, low male halfling druid8 of Mielikki, Shaarwood, high female moon elf sorceres6/wild mage2 (Liira), Tangled Trees, low to medium male human rogue5/fighter2/streetfighter 1 (Tymorra), Barrens of Doom and Despair, low Team 2 male tiefling beguiler 3 of Gargauth and Shar, Chessenta or Unther, low male airgenasi lurk 3 (Akadi), Chessenta or Unther, low male sun elf wizard 4 (Correllon), Chessenta or Evermeet, low to medium |
| #8lyvannalasMay 26, 2008 7:12:04 | For the moment ignore what is happening. After I finish the current campaign, I´ll see if I just continue on with my own timeline, maybe look up the Vault or change to Pathfinder. I find it unlikely that I´ll change to 4.0, because I´m cheesed off about a score of things in it and FR 4.0. |
| #9merrikcaleMay 26, 2008 9:53:08 | I was intially considering a time jump for some of the party, perhaps in some adventure to save something or other they need to seemingly sacrifice themselves etc. The more I read about the 4E realms the more unlikely it is I will follow along after all |
| #10markustay63May 26, 2008 10:06:26 | Converting my current game to Pathfinder. I do plan on trying out the 4e rules next month, but I'm not sure what world I will use for that, if any - probably Homebrew. |
| #11red_wizardMay 26, 2008 10:09:26 | I will be giving 4e a chance, but I have no current intent of switching. There has been little if anything to make me want to give up the Realms I love, so we'll linger and play through as we wish. ![]() -RW |
| #12alediranMay 26, 2008 10:32:18 | I'll continue playing them (I DM) until we finish the campaign. Then I'll convert to Pathfinder rules and continue MY FR world, with not even the smallest piece of crap that WotC writes. |
| #13markustay63May 26, 2008 10:40:16 | Have you guys begun working out the timeline at the Vault? I try to participate there more, but its kinda wonky (like CK). I use a lot of sites that have a problem 'timing out', but that one eats posts when it does so - very annoying. ![]() Once I am home (I've been captured for 2 weeks!!!), I should have a little something for LK, and then something for the Kara-Tur project. Sorry for all the delays. Anyway, even though I no longer have interest in playing in FR, I still love FR, so I will try to finish everything I started. |
| #14alediranMay 26, 2008 10:52:49 | It's the hosting what causes the Time Outs. As soon as the contract is finished I'll find a better one. I'll still recommend you to copy your entire post when you are about to send it. Even the best hostings can fail and eat one long post, appart from that I don't have problems with the boards using the go back button, the text remains there (I use Firefox). I'm still wanting to truly start the timeline project but I haven't had much time for it. If you come of course you'll be part of it. |
| #15markustay63May 26, 2008 11:03:16 | I've gotten used to doing that over at CK, which has also become even more unstable then usual (probably do to higher traffic lately), so I was doing that over at the Vault as well. I typed up a really long post about something (I forget), and when I went to hit 'cntrl C', I instead hit 'cntrl V', which erased my entire post! So even when I am trying to outsmart the Gremlins, they get me. ![]() Anyhow, didn't mean to derail your thread Therise, sorry ... carry on. ![]() |
| #16DiffanMay 26, 2008 14:49:28 | ....getting back on track.....:P I have 2 current campaigns set in the Realms. The first is an Avatar campaign and while some of us have classes not coming out in the 4e PHB (a Knight, Rogue/swordsage, and warlock) I think we can alter our player classes to fit the new stuff. I'm going to make the time jump simple by using portals. In the campaign, our characters have fallen to Faerun from Earth via a spellbook bought at a pawn shop and we've been trying to find a portal back. Eventually we'll find a portal but somethings going to go wrong and we're held in stasis for about 100 years while the Spellplague hits. Because of the stasis, the end of the Weave, and warping of the Cosmos our charcters will basically start from scratch in a new Realms. The second is a Gestalt campaign where the PCs have found a Pool of Radiance in Phlan and from there travel magically to the Ruins of Myth Drannor where they discover a desperate fight between an army of elves and Dalesfolk against an evil army of Fey'ri that have supplanted the forces of the Cult of the Dragon and use the "Pool" to empower their fiendish and infernal allies. From there, I really have no idea how I'm going to incorporate 4e (espically with gestalting) and might just decide to keep the 3.5 format for that campaign. |
| #17rinonalyrna_fathomlinMay 26, 2008 15:25:33 | Spellplague and the big leap forward in years! what does your group intend to do with their current characters? The group I'm in won't be using the Spellplague or time-jump. ![]() Hey, you asked. |
| #18selunatic2397May 26, 2008 20:51:09 | No spellplague or time jump in my campaign either... My players are happy with what I run for them twice a month...no reason to change it now... |
| #19lord_karsusMay 30, 2008 13:32:04 | The group I'm in won't be using the Spellplague or time-jump. -Same here. ;) |
| #20StiggerMay 30, 2008 13:37:26 | Mine will be ignoring the existance of 4e FR in general... just doesn't appeal to us in the slightest from what we've heard and read of it. |
| #21lord_karsusMay 30, 2008 13:45:24 | Once I am home (I've been captured for 2 weeks!!!), I should have a little something for LK, and then something for the Kara-Tur project. -It's about time. -On both counts. |
| #22jhaladMay 31, 2008 4:03:11 | Spellplague and the big leap forward in years! what does your group intend to do with their current characters? My group has unilaterraly agreed to boycot 4th ed. I am considering buying the FR books simply because I've collected all of them so far. We are currently playing in 1338, and will continue to do so, spellplague be damned. |
| #23merrikcaleMay 31, 2008 6:54:26 | My group has unilaterraly agreed to boycot 4th ed. I am considering buying the FR books simply because I've collected all of them so far. seems like there is no need to buy the 4e abomination then |
| #24dm_deathMay 31, 2008 8:41:11 | There will be no Spellplague. There will be no time jump. There will be no 4e. We're keeping our 3.5 campaign going until it's complete (anywhere from another year to 5 years...depending on how quickly we play...and how interested we stay.) However, as we only play my game once every 4 weeks, and another game once every 4 weeks (that is, we play every other week...my game, then another player runs "something" to allow EVERYONE a chance to DM), we're joining in the playtest for Pathfinder, and we will most likely be converting to that system...or something very similar. As for FR, we will continue to use the 3.5 rules, and I will simply create my own timeline. I've already screwed with it a bit, postponing the Dracorage and several of the events with the City of Shade... We may, eventually, play FR with the Pathfinder rules... Down with 4e! If it's based on Saga edition...it sucks. |
| #25fabius_maximusMay 31, 2008 10:40:18 | I'll do nothing with my characters. I'll not use the 4e rules unless I can come up with heavy house-ruling. I could imagine using the 4e Realms, though. The fluff interests me, I'll just need a ruleset to play. I was thinking about Iron Heroes, although True20 has a certain appeal, too. |
| #26merrikcaleMay 31, 2008 11:03:28 | I'll do nothing with my characters. I'll not use the 4e rules unless I can come up with heavy house-ruling. thats the exact opposite of me |
| #27nopityforacowardMay 31, 2008 12:03:48 | Man, you guys sound like you have so much fun with this. I would try it but I don't want to buy a DnD book reading it for hours on in trying to comprhend the Dice system. Plus you have to find a DM or something right? How come you people don't create your own world? Why do you live in ED's world? What could be more fun than controling everything yourself so you don't have to worry about 4E sucking? If it were me doing it, I'd have Gundams,Dragons,Nuclear war Heads, Dieties, Teleportation spells, Space Stations. I always hated the idea of Magic limited to middle-aged era. That's why Shannara novels are decent, the story goes into backround of USA and other such countries with high technology and then a massive war and with that set us back to mid-ages from there. And not only does that middle-ages thing upset me, someone in Wizard went as far as to include that electronics do not chemically work in FR world. So with that, it means that the creators fear technology would get out of hand and disrupt the way life. MEANING RED WIZARD, (YES YOU) THAT TECHNOLOGY DOES OUTDO MAGIC. Never, ever, could magic be as descrutive as invention. Pressing a single button from some 300 LB fat buisness man, compared to a 900 year old wizard who constantly practices for all his life. Technology is limitless, magic is limited by AO if you get too powerful. (Example mystria, whatever that magic Godess chick's name was I can't remember) |

| #30nopityforacowardMay 31, 2008 17:57:20 | then why are you here? Ok, 20th time now. I..D-O...N-O-T...L-I-K-E...T-H-E...C-A-N-D-L-E...K-E-E-P. Got it buddy? ;) |
| #31red_wizardMay 31, 2008 18:30:44 | You don't like the Realms either. So the question remains valid. ;) -RW |
| #32nopityforacowardMay 31, 2008 18:31:53 | You don't like the Realms either. So the question remains valid. ;) Correction, I voice my dislikes more than my likes in the realms. |
| #33red_wizardMay 31, 2008 18:35:49 | No correction needed. If you liked it, you'd learn it. You won't so you don't. Case and point. ;) -RW |
| #34nopityforacowardMay 31, 2008 18:42:08 | No correction needed. If you liked it, you'd learn it. You won't so you don't. Case and point. ;) Yeah because I read the FR books just to blow my mind. |
| #35red_wizardMay 31, 2008 18:49:05 | Which they didn't, so again. Validity remains. -RW |
| #36nopityforacowardMay 31, 2008 19:15:35 | Which they didn't, so again. Validity remains. Well it's fun too read FR with the idea that every author has their own character(s) in one world. I just wish they would see each other or interact and the authors didn't suck. I read swordmage, that was just...wow..like, it felt like some book that I was forced to read for English class in highschool. You might as well give the Authors their own world if they won't see each other characters, like, what's the point? Honestly? |
| #37red_wizardMay 31, 2008 19:20:32 | Fleshing out the world for people who actually play in it? Crazy notion. -RW |
| #38lord_karsusMay 31, 2008 20:00:54 | -Back on the topic of what people are doing with their characters come the 4e transition. |
