| #1GreenKnightSep 22, 2008 13:57:53 | In the DC Universe, Captain Marvel is Billy Batson, who was gifted with incredible powers by the wizard Shazam. When he speaks the wizards name, Billy Batson is transformed into the heroic Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel was created from a pact formed by the wizard utilizing the powers of six gods/legendary figures. He has the following powers: The Wisdom of Solomon The Strength of Hercules The Stamina of Atlas The Power of Zeus The Courage of Achilles The Speed of Mercury Anyway, I was thinking about this, and I was wondering what a Faerunian version of Captain Marvel would look like. So what do you folks think? Assuming the following power set... The Wisdom of ? The Strength of ? The Stamina of ? The Power of ? The Courage of ? The Speed of ? ...which Faerunian gods do you think would contribute to each attribute? |
| #2markustay63Sep 22, 2008 14:14:54 | Easy Peasy. The speed of Shaundakul The Courage of Hoar The Wisdom of Amaunator The Guile of of Zehir The Power of Azuth The Stamina of Malar :D |
| #3keverasSep 22, 2008 14:18:34 | I wonder how long it will take 'till someone mentions the name Karsus. :P Anyway, assuming Ao isn't allowed to contribute: The Wisdom of Chauntea The Strength of Tempus The Stamina of ? - no idea, they are all rather fragile The Power of Mystra (with Azuth and all her Chosen contained within her) The Courage of Tymora/Sune/Lathander ? - not sure The Speed of Mask ? - not sure |
| #4GreenKnightSep 22, 2008 14:21:01 | Hah, that was good. Didn't expect someone to actually come up with a version that spelled out SHAZAM. :D Can't believe I forgot Shaundakul. Adding him in, my version comes out to... Wisdom of Oghma Strength of Tempus Stamina of Moradin Power of Amaunator Courage of Torm Speed of Shaundakul That gets you OTMATS. Not a very good magic word, but you can rearrange the order to get something else. MATTOS, SOMATT, TOMATS, etc. |
| #5lord_karsusSep 22, 2008 14:26:49 |
-That good enough for you? :P |
| #6keverasSep 22, 2008 14:31:51 |
I doubt Ao would be amused by so much blasphemy at once. I wonder how long it will take 'till someone mentions the name Karsus. :P Hell, I wanna be the one. The Strength of Kelemvor The Power of Azuth The Wisdom of Rillifane The Courage of Sune The Stamina of Uthgar The Speed of Sharess Ha, Karsus. Yeah. |
| #7GreenKnightSep 22, 2008 14:40:20 |
So his magic word would be KKKKKK? :P Hell, I wanna be the one. ![]() |

I was going to say the same thing. ![]() |
| #9GreenKnightSep 22, 2008 18:42:08 | While I never got around to implementing it, I had a crazy idea a while back for a campaign set in the Palladium Fantasy world. Namely running a super-hero fantasy game. Use Mutants & Masterminds rules and have super-heroes in a fantasy setting. The elements are that they're natives of the world, not from the real world or anything, and they wear time period appropriate costumes, so no spandex or anything. Still want to run it, though I got half-a-mind to run it in Faerun, now. Hmm, the Faerunian Society of Justice. You'd have the Chosen Champion, who draws his power from six Faerunian gods when he speaks the name of the wizard who empowered him. The Fate Mage, whose features are hidden by an enclosed helm which also acts as his implement and source of magical might. The Green Knight, who wields a green ring which gives him immense powers, but who is vulnerable to wooden weapons. Garrick Swiftfoot, a clever rogue equipped with magical boots that allow him to run at miraculous speeds. The Hour Knight, who drinks a magical potion of his own creation which gives him supernatural strength and constitution one hour at a time. The Star Knight, who wields a magical rod which gives him access to countless radiant powers. Lord Kateris Hawke, a mighty warrior equipped with wings of flying and a pair of enchanted katars. And lastly, his wife, Lady Sharra Hawke, who's also equipped with wings of flying and carries an enchanted mace into battle. |

| #11SmartPaladinSep 22, 2008 22:58:38 | Wow... Is it wrong that when I saw this thread I was thinking Captain Mar-Vell?![]() |
| #12GreenKnightSep 22, 2008 23:30:30 | Yes it is. There's only one, true, Captain Marvel. And that Kree scumbag ain't it. :P |
| #13SmartPaladinSep 23, 2008 1:18:58 | Yes it is. There's only one, true, Captain Marvel. And that Kree scumbag ain't it. :P That's alright, he isn't Captain Marvel anyway. He's Captain Mar-Vell. Everyone's just saying his name wrong! Duh. :P |
| #14banpaiSep 23, 2008 7:12:29 |
He could call out "Special K" :D |
| #15banpaiSep 23, 2008 7:14:06 | That's alright, he isn't Captain Marvel anyway. He's Captain Mar-Vell. Everyone's just saying his name wrong! Duh. :P But it´s Miss Marvel, and Carol could kick Marvels and Mar-Vells asses :D |
| #16rinonalyrna_fathomlinSep 23, 2008 10:48:06 | The Star Knight, who wields a magical rod which gives him access to countless radiant powers. I take it that impresses the women in his life.:P |
| #17GreenKnightSep 23, 2008 14:47:02 | Well, Black Canary was certainly impressed by his star rod. :D |
| #18hvulpesSep 23, 2008 18:09:12 | Yes it is. There's only one, true, Captain Marvel. And that Kree scumbag ain't it. :P Except for when titles are involved. Marvel owns the copy right to Captain Marvel trademark... which means it's a cold day in the Nine if DC can use anything but Shazam as a title. Marvel will always make up a new captain to be a book to just spite DC. So no Fawcett City Captain Marvel comics for you, sorry. He did managed to kick Superman's butt in sales in the forties before the DC sued him into their pocket. |
| #19GreenKnightSep 23, 2008 19:57:30 | Yeah, that ticks me off to no end. DC sues Fawcett because Captain Marvel whupped Superman's ass in sales, keep him in legal torpor, allowing Marvel to swoop in and grab the Captain Marvel name, and ever since then he's been screwed. ![]() *sigh* Really wish one of two things would happen. 1) Marvel gives up on the Captain Marvel name. They've never made a respectable profit off of that character. He gets cancelled every time they roll that title out, so why bother? Just give up the name and make us fans of the real Captain Marvel happy. I know I'm sick of people referring to the character as Shazam because they don't know any better. Or 2) DC sells the character to Marvel Comics. Because of the name thing, they can't really give the character his own title. Shazam, Power of Shazam, that just throws people off. Sell the character to Marvel Comics, who can then give him his own title and run with it. Nevermind that he'd get a chance to prosper in the Marvel Universe. For one, it'd give Marvel something they've wanted for a long time. A character as powerful as Superman with the legacy to back it up (which they tried to manufacture with Sentry). Second, he won't be overshadowed in the Marvel Universe the way he is in the DCU. In the DCU, he's just a less wellknown Superman. But in the MU, he'd be one of the top dogs right away. And lastly, he'd fit in pretty well in the MU. Wouldn't be the first time a kid was a super-hero in the MU. He fits right alongside the likes of Thor (Don Blake, Eric Masterson), Hulk (Bruce Banner), and Spider-Man (who started out in high school). One or the other, I just wish SOMETHING would be done with the character, rather than having him linger in these doldrums any longer. |
| #20hvulpesSep 23, 2008 20:21:24 | Yeah, that ticks me off to no end. DC sues Fawcett because Captain Marvel whupped Superman's ass in sales, keep him in legal torpor, allowing Marvel to swoop in and grab the Captain Marvel name, and ever since then he's been screwed. There have been a few Marvel Supermen characters, mostly resulted from crossovers which didn't develop. (The original JLA/Avengers caused the Squadren Supreme in Marvel to replace the JLA and the Champions of Angor for DC. Also X-men/Legion of Superheroes--Legion of Assassins and The Shi'ar Royal guard respectively. Hyperion was the Squadren Superman and Gladetor was the Alien Superman). But Dc will not drop CM for the same reason Wizard would not give the realms to anyone including Ed, there's money to be made somewhere even if it's just with novels and such. Perhaps the Big Red Cheese might resurge with the movie starring the Rock as Black Adam. How the legal fight is the main reason why almost anytime Superman and Marvel meet, they have to fight each other. |
| #21hvulpesSep 24, 2008 8:23:00 | What about the Realm's Anti-Marvels? Like Ibac: Terror of Ivan the Terrible Cunning of Cesare Borgia Fierceness of Attila the Hun Cruelty of Caligula Or Sabbac Satan Aym Belial Beelzebub Asmodeus Crateis Black Adam Stamina of Shu Swiftness of Heru Strength of Amon Wisdom of Zehuti Power of Aton Courgae of Mehen |
| #22markustay63Sep 24, 2008 9:24:18 | Yes it is. There's only one, true, Captain Marvel. And that Kree scumbag ain't it. :P Why must we make a choice? ![]() |
| #23lord_karsusSep 24, 2008 10:30:09 | -I didn't know the person needed to should out, "Karsus!". |
| #24rinonalyrna_fathomlinSep 24, 2008 11:30:45 | Hmm, I like all these skintight costumes--doesn't leave much to the imagination, if you catch my meaning.:P ;) |
| #25GreenKnightSep 24, 2008 14:30:59 | Like Ibac: Good point. Hmm... Terror of Iyachtu Xvim Cunning of Manshoon Fierceness of Yamun Khahan Cruelty of Fzoul Chembryl Or Sabbac Easy at first glance, but a bit harder when you look closer at it, as there aren't a whole lot of vowels among the first letters of the Lords of Nine. Asmodeus is a must, as is Belial and Baalzebul, but after? Add in Mephistopheles, Glasya, and Levistus. That gives you ABBMGL. Don't even ask me how that can be arranged into something pronounceable. Might get a better result if one uses the names of previous Lords of the Nine Hells. Black Adam He's a worshiper of the Mulhorandi Pantheon, and a couple of those names already correspond to existing Mulhorandi gods, like Heru and Aton (Horus-Re) and Zehuti (Thoth). Sooo, assuming his pact was made before the Orcgate Wars and the death of Ra (Once the pact is made you got the power. The later death of the patron changes nothing)... Stamina of Geb Swiftness of Horus Strength of Anhur Wisdom of Thoth Power of Ra Courage of Osiris Could arrange that as GAROTH, THORAG, etc. |
| #26markustay63Sep 24, 2008 17:23:26 | How about... The magical prowess of Karsus The perseverance of Hoar The wisdom of Eldath The might of Lathander The commanding personality of Bane The stealthiness of Eshodow The nobility of Nobanion Just say the magic word and you are transformed into the Blackstaff. :D |
| #27banpaiSep 24, 2008 17:25:32 | Why must we make a choice? A very bad view for Mar-Vell, he looks a bit deformend. By the way guys we have now reached geek level 4. :D |
| #28GreenKnightSep 24, 2008 17:26:29 | Hmm, I like all these skintight costumes--doesn't leave much to the imagination, if you catch my meaning.:P ;) Why madam, whatever do you mean? :embarrass A very bad view for Mar-Vell, he looks a bit deformend. By the way guys we have now reached geek level 4. :D I'm surprised they didn't have the other Captain Marvel say thanks, too. She's right up there blasting Sinestro. |
| #29rinonalyrna_fathomlinSep 24, 2008 17:34:33 | Why madam, whatever do you mean? :embarrass I think you answered your own question. ![]() |
