Tordek and Mialee were quite young when we started, so the hundred year blink is nothing to them. Kerwynn and his brother, Regdar (slightly tweaked to give them both noble backgrounds), had received the curse/blessing of near-immortality (as long a sthey don't get sick or murdered, etc.). Regdar bought the farm in battle and others died through the course of adventures. My players want to revive the survivors, who were known as "The Barrels of Durgal". They want to run them in FR and are willing to knock them back to first level, accounted for by the passage of time and falling out of practice. (Tordek's been drinking his memories away.) Another player wants to run the wizard, but he's got his own character concept in mind, so Mialee, I've decided, is unable to go adventuring. That leaves just Kerwynn to deal with now. He's been in Wheloon, doing his best just to survive. Using Central Casting to quickly generate events, he rose to become the leader of a small but vicious gang of thugs. After they'd been at the top for awhile, someone in the gang decided that he wanted to run the show, and Kerwynn had two choices; 1) escape Wheloon, or 2) die. In early days, he would have been an Artful Dodger. (Bored nobles are rarely ruffians.) But if Wheloon is as bad as they say it is, I can't see a guy who capitalizes on finesse rising to the top of a ruthless band of cut-throats (Jarlaxle notwithstanding). I'm not sure how to advise his player to build him. Here are some bits about him:
So what sort of build should we slap on him? Which one would work best coming out of Wheloon? And how might he have escaped? (His torso and arms are covered in gang tattoos, so he wears long-sleeved shirts even in teh hottest weather.) -also- What reason can I give them for keeping Mialee at home in Myth Drannor? |

Through the use of charm, deceit and intimidation he managed to rise to the top dispite being less "brutal" than those around him. As for how he escaped: he knew time was running out so he tried a desperate gamble. He used less than reliable contacts to get to a smuggler and had himself smuggled out of the city. What reason can I give them for keeping Mialee at home in Myth Drannor? She might have settled down, or just grown tired of adventuring. Maybe she's pregnant? |

Myth Drannor was founded in 1374 DR only about 11 years before the start of the spell plague. You could say that Mialee has stayed in practice and retains her powers. She is now one of the more respected wizards within the kingdom of Myth Drannor. She may even work with or for Coronal Ilsevele Miritar (the current ruler of Myth Drannor). If Mialee is made a prominent figure within Myth Drannor, whom is on good terms with the Dale Lands and Cormyr, then she could be used as a plot important NPC sometime during the campaign. This would mean that her duties are to great for her to leave behind or neglect. It also means that she is in a position where she can help the group if need be for all they need do is ask. |

| #7ShiftkittyDec 05, 2008 17:44:15 | Okay, I guess I'll keep Kerwynn as an Artful Dodger. I like keeping Mialee around as an important NPC who can't abandon her duties in Myth Drannor. If the party needs an extra person, I can always crop up a quick son or daughter eager to go with these people that their mother has spoken so highly about (thank you, Character Builder "Quick Character" button!). For Kerwynn's escape, I was planning on his escape having been completely unassisted, but now that I think about it, having someone on the outside who can come back later on and use insider information on the escape as part of an extortion deal might make for some good RP and a side trek. |
