| #1telagauntFeb 10, 2009 16:07:08 | Please if anyone can help me with some of these questions, some may not be answerable yet I imagine though.. But mostly I'm just wondering about certain 'updates' on things, specifically during that lil timeskip. 1) What happened to Azuth? Granted Mystra died, but anything on Azuth? 2) Do any of the new sourcebooks or novels go into how the Seven Sisters died? Like in a particular battle, or many, particular foe, many foes, etc.. I imagine by the hands of the Shadovar but still.. 3) Any new word on Ioulaum or Larloch? 4) Did psionics change at all in 4E and more so in FR? 5) Any word on Jarlaxle and/or Entreri? 6) What's gone on in the Underdark since the WotSQ series? Anything big? I think that's it.. :P Any ideas or solid answers welcome |
| #2lord_karsusFeb 10, 2009 16:23:46 | 1) What happened to Azuth? Granted Mystra died, but anything on Azuth? -When Dweomerheart "exploded" Azuth and Velsharoon were cast into the planes. Azuth eventually "landed" in the Nine Hells, specifically...Nessus, where Asmodeus consumed him, taking his divine spark. 2) Do any of the new sourcebooks or novels go into how the Seven Sisters died? Like in a particular battle, or many, particular foe, many foes, etc.. I imagine by the hands of the Shadovar but still.. -Be right with you...I know I wrote this somewhere else, so I had to go back and copy it all: Alustriel: Died sometime before 1,479 DR, seemingly of natural causes. Dove: Fate unknown Laeral: Died sometime before 1,479 DR. Qilué: Taken by Eilistraee as an Avatar in 1,378 DR, but was beheaded by the Crescent Blade, killing her and her deity. The Simbul: Is hiding in the Dalelands, presumably with Elminster, having left Aglarond. Storm: Fate unknown Syluné: Put to her final rest during the Zhent incursion into Shadowdale in 1,374 DR. 3) Any new word on Ioulaum or Larloch? -No. Presumably, the two are still out there, somewhere, doing something. 4) Did psionics change at all in 4E and more so in FR? -Presumably the Psionics mechanics will change with the 4e system. As of yet, however, nothing has been released. In the 4e Forgotten Realms, Psionics has yet to be discussed. 5) Any word on Jarlaxle and/or Entreri? -Nope. Presumably, the two are still out there somewhere, thought they may or may not be working in concert. 6) What's gone on in the Underdark since the WotSQ series? Anything big? -A bunch of things, each localized to it's own settlement or area. Looking for anything specifically? |
| #3krownhunter07Feb 10, 2009 16:26:05 | 1) What happened to Azuth? Granted Mystra died, but anything on Azuth? He got nabbed by Asmodeus and sucked dry of divine power. Now the Lord of nine is a greater power. 2) Do any of the new sourcebooks or novels go into how the Seven Sisters died? Like in a particular battle, or many, particular foe, many foes, etc.. I imagine by the hands of the Shadovar but still.. Not so much, no... they are vague, at the present. 3) Any new word on Ioulaum or Larloch? Nothing more then is mentioned in the FRCG, if anything. 4) Did psionics change at all in 4E and more so in FR? No, it still is the same, from a canon stand point. The only changes will be how it's used. 5) Any word on Jarlaxle and/or Entreri? Aside from the FRCG, not that I know of. That said, I'm sure we'll know soon as they pop up in books. 6) What's gone on in the Underdark since the WotSQ series? Anything big? Well, the layout has changed in some areas... it does have a bit of info in the books. I think that's it.. :P If you don't have them already, I suggest getting the FRCG and FRPG. They have a lot of info. *I'm sure some will disagree, but it is the most info, you're bound to find, in one location |
| #4krownhunter07Feb 10, 2009 16:30:04 | -When Dweomerheart "exploded" Azuth and Velsharoon were cast into the planes. Azuth eventually "landed" in the Nine Hells, specifically...Caina(?), where Asmodeus consumed him, taking his divine spark. Nessus, not Caina... |
| #5lord_karsusFeb 10, 2009 16:32:00 | -Nessus, then. Who rules Caina? Mephistopheles? Levistus? I can never get any of that straight. I can't even say Mephistopheles. |
| #6IluvrienFeb 10, 2009 16:32:26 | Not so much, no... they are vague, at the present. Some of them are. Isn't Anastra's (Syluné's) fate dealt with in the adventure "Cormyr : The Tearing of the Weave"? And Erésseae's (Qilué's) in the Lady Penitent books? Endué (Alustriel) is just plain dead. Alassra (The Simbul) isn't dead and may be with El... and the fates of Anamanué, Ambara and Ethena are, as yet, unknown... So isn't that 3 solid answers, 1 fuzzy answer and 3 plain "just don't know"s. |
| #7lord_karsusFeb 10, 2009 16:45:35 | Isn't Anastra's (Syluné's) fate dealt with in the adventure "Cormyr : The Tearing of the Weave"? -One of them, yes. I'm not sure which one, since I don't have any of those adventures. And Erésseae's (Qilué's) in the Lady Penitent books? -Yes. |
| #8stormlordFeb 10, 2009 16:45:46 | -Nessus, then. Who rules Caina? Mephistopheles? Levistus? I can never get any of that straight. I can't even say Mephistopheles. Mephistopheles rules Cania and Levistus rules Stygia |
| #9krownhunter07Feb 10, 2009 16:46:34 | -Nessus, then. Who rules Caina? Mephistopheles? Levistus? I can never get any of that straight. I can't even say Mephistopheles. It's Mephistopheles... (meeph-iss-stiff-el-s) I believe. Some of them are. Right, I thought he meant the ones post-spellplague that are known to be dead. |
| #10IluvrienFeb 10, 2009 16:51:23 | Right, I thought he meant the ones post-spellplague that are known to be dead. Anastra and Erésseae died before the Spellplague, Endué seems to have died during the time-jump. Alassra is alive. Who else do we know has died? |
| #11krownhunter07Feb 10, 2009 16:54:23 | Anastra and Erésseae died before the Spellplague, Endué seems to have died during the time-jump. Alassra is alive. Who else do we know has died? lol... umm... the silver haired one? :P |
| #12IluvrienFeb 10, 2009 17:22:03 | lol... umm... the silver haired one? :P You may be right with this one. Looking at CK I see that (Thankyou Christopher Rowe) Anamanué (Laer) may also be dead... and one of Ambara (Dove) and Ethena (Storm) might be alive... suggesting the other has died. (Personal pleas here. Please let these last three survive. This transition has killed off about a dozen characters I really enjoyed reading about. Please let us keep these three.) |
| #13rinonalyrna_fathomlinFeb 10, 2009 20:40:51 | MEF-i-STOF-o-lees Sylune died in the Shadowdale adventure (although she's not dead in my Realms!). |
| #14krownhunter07Feb 10, 2009 21:38:08 | MEF-i-STOF-o-lees lol, that's what I tried, and failed, to get across. Thank you. |
| #15telagauntFeb 10, 2009 21:55:30 | Great responses, thank you very much And yeah, Meph-w/e, is Ruler of Cania, and consumed part of Mask's divinity via Erevis Cale. Kinda ironic, at the end of Shadowrealm he gloats about coming after Asmodeus and how he will be more powerful. And here Asmodeus consumes Azuth haha :D Shame though... I always wished Azuth would become a greater god... -A bunch of things, each localized to it's own settlement or area. Looking for anything specifically? Yeah, Menzoberranzen (sp?) and..I can't remember the name of the city.. but was destroyed in WotSQ. And the Jaezred Chausslin (sp?). |
| #16lord_karsusFeb 10, 2009 22:07:13 | MEF-i-STOF-o-lees -Mephistophapphaphapfafphfa... Kinda ironic, at the end of Shadowrealm he gloats about coming after Asmodeus and how he will be more powerful. -Maybe that's why Asmodeus "ate" Azuth, in lieu of using him like a bargaining chip or something else to that effect? Ah, the plot thickens. Yeah, Menzoberranzen (sp?) and..I can't remember the name of the city.. but was destroyed in WotSQ. And the Jaezred Chausslin (sp?). -In Menzoberranzan, things are more or less the same. Quenthel is the Matron Mother of House Baenre now, having gotten rid of Triel. Nothing of Ched Nasad or the Jaezred Chaulssin is mentioned. |
| #17keverasFeb 11, 2009 6:21:01 | 3) Any new word on Ioulaum or Larloch? In the Epic Faerun article it was mentioned that Larloch is the most powerful of Faerun's mighty wizards. Mephistopheles rules Cania and Levistus rules Stygia It's Caina. Cania was a typo :P |
| #18rinonalyrna_fathomlinFeb 11, 2009 10:22:37 | lol, that's what I tried, and failed, to get across. Thank you. You're welcome.;) As for Meph's realm, I've only ever heard it as "Cania." |
| #19addle-cove-anarchistFeb 11, 2009 13:37:30 | Caina was the original name given to it by Ed, TSR changed it later, not sure if it was a typo or on purpose |
| #20greekgeorgeFeb 11, 2009 14:32:25 | @Iluvrien - It's been so long since I've heard all the Seven's names used that way... do you have a complete list from one of the sourcebooks (3.x)? You gave me an idea for the transition of my 3.5 long-running campaign, which I am preparing next month for 4e. I know that Syluné died in the Shadowdale adventure, but in my tweaked version of it, I had the Sharrans using elven/Myth Drannor Baelnorns to drain & power their ritual... so stopping the ritual was this epic, glorious story. Yes, she did, but our gold elven warmage was forever changed, and although he was generally a good character, he is now weighed down and still carries a silver spark from her. Hard to explain in a few paragraphs, but her death really served the campaign, the roleplay, and the depth of the characters and story, now and into the future. Just before this adventure, before my PCs portal'ed away from Waterdeep, the wild elf Bladesinger who grew up around Eilistraee good drow, had a Last Hunt vision with Qilué and a few of his companions. I did not know she was going to die in canon, but the way I wrote it, was a whole prophecy adventure and her death inspired the Bladesinger incredibly. Instead of resisting some of the 4e changes, I took it as a challenge--forcing myself to DM/write the best campaign I could, as if I had no other choice but this setting. When my converted 12th level mostly elven fellowship moves through time from 1376 DR into the future, I am going to start with a very bittersweet intro, a long drama adventure prologue like the beginning of Battlestar Galactica, where they find Evermeet destroyed, although Evereska and Myth Drannor flourishing. I have to agree, I did at times like reading about the Chosen, but I never, ever liked to use them in my actual games, because the players felt overshadowed. |

You gave me an idea for the transition of my 3.5 long-running campaign, which I am preparing next month for 4e. I use their first names now because I figure the time in which I can do so in this place without everybody replying "whut?" is coming to an end ;).I first learned the names from the 2E sourcebook "The Seven Sisters" (sub-section "The story of the seven). I can do the full list for you here if you like. I am not sure where they are to be found in 3.x, a quick scan of the entry for Storm in the FRCS, for example, shows little sign of her full name: Anastra Syluné Endué Alustriel Ambara Dove Ethena Astorma (Storm) Anamanué Laeral Alassra Shentrantra (the Simbul) Erésseae Qilué I have to agree, I did at times like reading about the Chosen, but I never, ever liked to use them in my actual games, because the players felt overshadowed. Sounds reasonable to me. I would have just liked to be able to keep reading about them ;). |
| #22rinonalyrna_fathomlinFeb 12, 2009 16:59:56 | Caina was the original name given to it by Ed, TSR changed it later, not sure if it was a typo or on purpose Hmm, I guess either name works fine. Thanks for letting me know. ![]() I like hearing the full given names of the Seven being used, too. ![]() |
| #23IluvrienFeb 12, 2009 17:43:35 | I like hearing the full given names of the Seven being used, too. Glad I could oblige. I find them quite pleasurable to say. Certain words or names just roll through the mouth, trip across the tongue and insinuate themselves between the lips. There is a quiet pleasure in just saying some words. I enjoy languages, even my own, and some of the names above are some of my favourite words in any of the languages I have taken an interest in. (Others may be "somnolent" (english), "heureux" (french) and "namaiki" (japanese). One thing I think that designers should always strive for is some form of onamatapoeia when creating names. Surely it adds to the impact of the thing named? |

| #25markustay63Feb 13, 2009 12:50:36 | Draconic Names. ![]() They are always so bad, that they get used once at the beginning of anything, and then after that we only see there nicknames. ![]() Yes... I understand that the designers are trying to convey to us that Draconic is an unpronouncable mess to humans... and sadly, they are doing a VERY good job of conveying that point. They make Mr. Mxyzptlk look like 'Bob'. |
| #26lord_karsusFeb 18, 2009 9:17:57 | Draconic Names. -Draconic is fun! |
