I've got an idea for a pair of MacGuffins for my heroes to chase after that have the power separately to nullify the powers of elven high magic or the powers of anything created with such magic, and together can subvert or alter those same powers or creations. Obviously not the kind of things that the elves want running around. I figure these things were made in ancient Netheril, but I have no idea what would be a good name for such an obviously powerful set of artifacts or what form they should take though I suppose a rod and an orb together would be appropriate enough.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Sun Elves of Evermeet already have the Accumulator stored somewhere in an armoury in their Feywild capital of Leuthilspar. Its capable of collecting and storing elven high magic (see the novel Evermeet, Island of Elves).

A kiira spellstone sometimes holds vestiges of former owners that could still master old elven high magic, if reasoned with, the spellmind trapped in the kiira could be persuaded to counter such spells.

Planar manipulation to the Feywild and portal magic could possibly be harnassed to weaken or bend high elven magic. Somekind of device like the Gatekeepers Crystal, from Baker's the Last Mythal series, can be useful.
__

Elven high magic is not that different from epic casting, so an artifact able to reproduce effects from the dispell epic spell seed should be sufficient to stop most spells cast by individual high mages. Spells cast by multiple high mages in circles (the specialty of elven high mages) might take considerable time to deconstruct.

Instead of a McGuffin consider using NPC's that know how to juryrig static magic or let the PC's themselves learn by getting them to experiment with the elven high magic spells instead of shutting them down. Introducing minor alterations could prove easier to achieve then outright breaking a high magic spell.

My idea was that these things could, on their own for example, outright turn off a Mythal, strip a Baelnorn of the power that keeps it going and destroying it, or cause the Ruler's Blade to be as useful as a normal longsword. Together, they could turn the power of the Ruler's Blade against Elvenkind forever (or until a deity intervened obviously) or cause a Mythal to work against the cities its supposed to protect. For example the Mythal in Myth Drannor allows no planar travel within the limits, now with the artifacts together you could cause it to appear that the Mythal is working fine yet its actually not, allowing for anyone to pop into the city at their leisure. Or if you are the less subtle type, instead of disallowing planar travel, now portals to the lower planes are appearing all over the city. Like I said, one of them on it's own allows for temporary nullification, both together allows for pretty much complete control.

Also, I should probably mention that one doesn't have to be an epic level spellcaster to use these things. Anyone who can read and speak ancient Netherese can learn to use them. My intent isn't for the heroes to be able to mess with elven high magic, they're mostly elves from myth drannor, they wanna get ahold of these things and destroy them so that they can't be used.

Revenge. In the splatbook, Grand History of the Realms it is mentioned a few times that Netheril was rather un-fond of Myth Drannor. The Trio Nefarious, a group of Nycaloths that wrecked Cormanthyr for a while before being imprisoned (they eventually escaped and were responsible for unleashing the devils that destroyed the empire) were unleashed upon the empire by a Netherese archmage who thought that the elves had the Nether Scrolls. Also, as Netheril was being destroyed by the Phaerimm, it was a popular theory among the Netherese that it was something that Cormanthyr was doing or that they were working in concert with the Phaerimm. Eventually, after the actual fall of the empire, the remainder city Hlondath still blamed the elves openly started a war with Cormanthyr.

High Netherese liked to make scepters, crowns, gems or rings to make their magic-items into.

So maybe a "Shroudcrown", "Scepter of Heavy Absorbtion", "Sylvanbane Gem" or "Ring of Mythal Attunement" would make a good name.
