Forgotten Realms is my favorite D&D campaign setting and Second Edition contained so much fluff and information, particularly on spells, I enjoy recreated them for later editions like 3e, 3.5, pathfinder and now 5e. One such spell that is referenced all the time in the novels is the Mantle spell. I've recreated it several times before and the feedback I got helped me craft it in such a way as the fit the theme without making it over\under-powered or abusable. This is my first take on the Mantle spell for 5e, feedback would be appreciated.

Mantle

6th-level Abjuration

Casting Time: 10 minutes

Range: Self

Componants: V, S, M (A baldric or sash set with 9 gemstones worth 1000gp which must be worn at all times.)

Duration: 8hrs

This spell brings into being an aura, visible only as a momentary simmering in the air, around the caster. The Baldric or Sasha must be worn for the Mantle spell to work, if its removed the spell ends. The Mantle moves with the caster and wards them against spells and other effects. You may only be under the effects of one Mantle spell at a time. If a second one is cast, the first one ends. The Mantle has HP when first created and it may not exceed this amount. The Powers of the Mantle depend on what level of spell it's being cast at. A Mantle cast at a higher level has all the powers of a lower level mantle. The mantle cannot be dispelled, but looses 1HP when targeted by a dispel magic spell or effect. As an action you may spend a spell slot to strengthen a damaged mantle. The Mantle heals 1 HP per level of the spell spent. If the Mantle is reduced to 0HP or less the mantle collapses and the spell ends.

A Mantle may be cast with a duration of Permenant, doing so consumes the Material Componant and makes the mantle hungry. A hungry mantle drinks 1 HP from the caster when cast and an additonal 1 HP every 24 hours the mantle persists. There is also a 10% chance when you rest to regain spell slots, the mantle drinks a random spell slot of 1st - 5th level. HP and Spell Slots the mantle drinks cannot be regained by any means while the mantle persists. The mantle may be ended as an action.

6th Level Spell: Cast at this level the Mantle has 9HP when created. The caster is constantly under the effects of the Feather Fall spell and all non-magical ranged attacks have disadvantage. In addition the caster controls the enviroment inside his mantle. He is protected from mundane enviroments and weather conditions.

The Caster gains Spell Resistance as the 14th level Abjurer ability. If the caster is already resistant to the spells damage from another source, he reduces the damage the spell deals to him by half his level round down. Each time the mantle wards against a spell of 1st level or higher it loses 1HP plus 1HP per level of the spell above 5th. (5HP for a 9th level spell)

The caster selects 2 spells of 1st - 5th level, one to become immune to and one to boost. Once choosen these spells can't be changed until you cast the mantle spell again. When the mantle wards against the spell you choose to be immune to you take no effect from the spell and the mantle gains 1 HP as it absorbs part of the spells energy. When you cast the spell you chose to boost, you cast it one level higher.

7th Level: Cast at this level the Mantle has 11 HP and the caster selects 4 spells. 2 Immune and 2 Boost. The caster may use his movement to fly with a speed of 60, this effect stops at the end of his turn. If he isn't on solid ground he falls.

8th Level: Cast at this level the Mantle has 13 HP and the caster selects 6 spells. 3 Immune and 3 Boost. The caster may use his movement to teleport up to 60 feet, the caster must have line of sight and line of effect to his destination.

9th Level: Cast at this level the Mantle has 15 HP and the caster may use an action to expand his mantle to all allies within 10 feet of him, this requires concentration to maintain.
