| #1cerathlonJan 17, 2009 12:18:30 | what happends if a Spell fire wielder becomes undead.. does he/she loose the spellfire ability, och does he/she use for example Charisma as limit hon how moutch spellfire energy he/she can store.. |
| #2StiggerJan 17, 2009 15:29:40 | Well, considering that, from what I recall or reading about it in 2e, Spellfire is the raw energy of life and magic, I wouldn't think the two would be compatible with each other. But I don't think there's been an answer either way, so it pretty much depends on how the DM decides to treat it. Maybe an artifact or something could corrupt the energy before it entered the weilder and made it more useable to them could be employed though, in which case I'd say it was at least possible. Think I'd probably go with wisdom myself, but charisma could work pretty well too as far as governing attributes go. |
| #3cerathlonJan 17, 2009 17:58:55 | hmm how about the 3.5 ed version of spellfire.. ( if there is moutch of a difference. dont know moutch about 2ed) |
| #4JudgeDookieJan 17, 2009 18:08:37 | This belongs in the Running the Realms board. I'll have LK move it. Swordboy!! ![]() |
| #5ranielkJan 17, 2009 18:19:57 | This belongs in the Running the Realms board. I'll have LK move it. LK moves mountains and you're going to waste his time in moving a thread? You are a braver man than I, Judge. |
| #6JudgeDookieJan 17, 2009 18:26:45 | Eh. The substance of the "mountains" he moves is up for debate. :whatsthis Besides, just call him "swordboy" once. Try it! See how liberating it is!! :D |
| #7ranielkJan 17, 2009 18:29:12 | Eh. The substance of the "mountains" he moves is up for debate. :whatsthis Ummmm, no. No I couldn't. Not even a little. Not even once. *COUGH* swordboy *COUGH* I, er, :P |
| #8JudgeDookieJan 17, 2009 18:38:48 | I rule! |
| #9StiggerJan 18, 2009 0:04:04 | Well, the 3.5e version of spellfire wasn't much different in the way it worked, and mostly got a crunch update, rather than a fluff one, at least from what I recall of it. Don't use it much to be honest, but I didn't see much difference beyond going into less detail about it... so presumably the old fluff still holds true for the era. Swordboy though? Seems like there's far more horrid things that you could and should be calling him to me... |
| #10drachasorJan 18, 2009 3:23:13 | I believe Crown of Fire has a demi-lich that is a Spellfire user. |
| #11JudgeDookieJan 18, 2009 4:54:40 | Swordboy though? Seems like there's far more horrid things that you could and should be calling him to me... Be horrid to LK?!! ![]() Not me. Uh-uh. Watch Army of Darkness, then get back to me. Swordboy is so much better than being horrid. :D I believe Crown of Fire has a demi-lich that is a Spellfire user. Recall something of that. Then again, that book sucked so much I blocked out most of it. |
| #12drizztsmanchildJan 18, 2009 5:51:58 | It was a Skull that Fzoul Chembryl/Manshoon controlled through a bone. Does that qualify as a Demi-lich? Or just an animated skull with its spirit returned? |
| #13JudgeDookieJan 19, 2009 22:08:18 | Qualifies as retarded. Give it a motorcycle and we have the movie Ghost Rider. ![]() |
| #14drizztsmanchildJan 19, 2009 23:02:46 | Qualifies as retarded. Lol. Now wouldn't that be something to see in the realms. Though I'm sure someone somewhere has a character similiar to that in the realms already. We've already seen a Jedi transfered to the realms and I've personally have seen a character named Worf(STTNG) who had adamantium claws. Continue with topic. |
| #15JudgeDookieJan 20, 2009 13:02:54 | Lol. Now wouldn't that be something to see in the realms. Well that explains that croaky, big eared gnome that always talked back-asswards in my last campaign. ![]() Continue with topic. As for that, I'll have to agree with Stig on this. Spellfire seems to be based on raw magic and life itself. There's no reason to heal if you're dead and no ability to shoot flames out your eyes if they've rotted away. Flames out the butt? Well, that would be a different story. Dead people do tend to release some ferocious gas. ![]() |
| #16lord_karsusJan 23, 2009 10:44:47 | -Hmm...Well, Spellfire is kinda-sorta like Silverfire. And, we know that Silverfire can be wielded by Undead individuals (Eloevan and Sylûne). Thus, Spellfire might be able to be used by the Undead. |
| #17StiggerJan 23, 2009 15:57:19 | Thought it was Aloevan... I presume we're talking about Embrae Aloevan in Ardeep, right? Didn't think she was undead though... |
| #18lord_karsusJan 23, 2009 16:05:04 | -Yeah, I spelled it wrong. She went crazy, and died, but her spirit wasn't able to fully pass into Arvandor. Her spirit is in some sort of limbo "between worlds" made of Silver Fire. That's close enough to Undead to me. I like to think of her somewhat like a Banshee. |
| #19StiggerJan 23, 2009 16:18:03 | I remember that she went nuts, but I thought she just got stuck in that little fugue-like demiplane by Sehanine to preserve her on the off chance someone might figure out a way to fix her. |
| #20lord_karsusJan 23, 2009 16:59:50 | -No, she did go crazy, and was stuffed in her own little place, but she did die. |
| #21The_High_BlademageJan 23, 2009 17:35:51 | Well, I might have some gaps in the realms' lore but as far as I know an undead creature isn't subject to effects that affect Constitusion. Doesn't it make it imposible to them to use it? The dead spellfire users might become a special type of undead but this is indeed up to the DM's jujement and imagination. P.S: Did I read Jedi before? On the realms? Well, were did I left my blaster, in waterdeep mabe^^? - someone have seen the new Gamers movie :D |
| #22StiggerJan 24, 2009 0:28:15 | Don't recall the death part... where was that mentioned? |
| #23lord_karsusJan 24, 2009 10:39:47 | -Sehanine's entry in Faiths & Avatars. |
| #24StiggerJan 24, 2009 16:12:09 | Hmmm... have to go back over that then. Don't even recall her being mentioned in that. |
| #25lord_karsusJan 24, 2009 20:37:09 | -Here:While the largest temples of Sehanine Moonbow are found on the Evermeet, in Evereska, and in the woods of the Elven Court, the site most sacred to the Lady of Dreams is the Tears of Aloevan. This is an otherworldly cloud of magic, accessed through a mystical pool of water found in an unearthly sylvan glen at the heart of Ardeep Forest. Much like Qilue Veladorn serves both Mystra and Eilistraee today, Aloevan was once the Chosen of both Sehanine Moonbow, and the Lady of Mysteries. -I bolded the parts that specifically talk about her being dead. |
| #26StiggerJan 25, 2009 10:22:22 | Heh, that's what I get for not being terribly interested in the Seldarine I guess. :D |
| #27lord_karsusJan 25, 2009 22:31:02 | -So tragic, so tragic. |
| #28JudgeDookieJan 28, 2009 22:06:20 | -Yeah, I spelled it wrong. She went crazy, and died, but her spirit wasn't able to fully pass into Arvandor. Her spirit is in some sort of limbo "between worlds" made of Silver Fire. That's close enough to Undead to me. I like to think of her somewhat like a Banshee. Well, doesn't that "silver fire" give her some sort of connection to the Seldarine and prevent her from the undeath you speak of? Wasn't the Queen of Evermeet dead, but not undead and such? ![]() |
| #29StiggerJan 29, 2009 0:49:23 | Depends really on whether or not that Silver Fire could be considered to still be a part of her or not... if it is, then I'd say that she wasn't really dead per se, if it isn't, then she probably is dead, but not undead. A Schroedinger's cat sort of thing. |
| #30lord_karsusJan 29, 2009 9:12:53 | Well, doesn't that "silver fire" give her some sort of connection to the Seldarine and prevent her from the undeath you speak of? -No, not really. Silver Fire grants them a connection to Mystra (obviously, since it's her stuff), but there's no special connection to the Seldarine involved. One of the powers granted by the Chosen of Mystra template is that you don't die of old age, but that's not really the same as preventing Undeath. Wasn't the Queen of Evermeet dead, but not undead and such? -No...At the end of Evermeet: Island of the Elves, Queen Amlauril "died" (willed herself to Arvandor. Elves can do that). But, she realized that her people needed her, so she returned to the mortal world. That's not Undeath, though. Closest thing, I guess, would be as if someone cast Resurrection on her. |
| #31JudgeDookieJan 31, 2009 11:45:23 | -No, not really. Silver Fire grants them a connection to Mystra (obviously, since it's her stuff), but there's no special connection to the Seldarine involved. One of the powers granted by the Chosen of Mystra template is that you don't die of old age, but that's not really the same as preventing Undeath. I'm aware of the whole Mystra Chosen and Silverfire affects and benefits thing. I was speaking of the mention in Evemeet: IoE where Silverfire is mentioned with Amlaruil at the end (I've gone back to try to find where exactly it was mentioned, but, of course, haven't found it). Regardless, what was written made it sound as if Silverfire was more of a god infused power than just power infused by Mystra. |
| #32lord_karsusFeb 02, 2009 10:09:01 | I was speaking of the mention in Evemeet: IoE where Silverfire is mentioned with Amlaruil at the end (I've gone back to try to find where exactly it was mentioned, but, of course, haven't found it). -You might be misremembering, because Queen Amlauril is a Chosen of the Seldarine, and "Silverfire", or anything like it, isn't one of her granted abilities. |
| #33JudgeDookieFeb 02, 2009 19:46:38 | Misunderstanding--possibly. Misreading--no. I reread the paragraph twice, just to make sure it said what it said. It may have been just part of EC's description of what was going on, but it certainly sounded like Amlaruil possessed it. |
| #34lord_karsusFeb 03, 2009 8:54:30 | -What part in the book? The couple of paragraphs near the end, where she "dies", but then decides to come back because her people need her? |
| #35JudgeDookieFeb 03, 2009 20:52:06 | It's somewhere at that point. I take a quick scan every now and then but still haven't spotted it (that's the problem with reading on the El'--never mark the important points, just your stop). And, of course, after reading it, why go immediately do it again? ![]() |
