| #1MR._TJan 25, 2009 17:42:35 | Is there a novel or some source material that best defines what happened during this time; i.e. how it started, etc? edit: After scouring the forum pages I found an older thread essentially asking the same question so let me rephrase. I've read mention of the Spellplague in several novels but want to know what caused it/why it happened? Is this information revealed any where or is this some gigantic world shattering event that just happens and we're left to gather clues as to its origins? |
| #2Evergreen_AldaronJan 25, 2009 21:38:40 | If you keep searching you will find numerous threads that detail just how Shar and Cyric murdered Mystra and started the Spellplague. |

|
| #4ody_seraph_of_cyric_dupJan 26, 2009 2:34:21 | My Lord is the cause of the Glorious Blue Fire that cleansed Toril of the stench of Mystra. All Hail and Praise Lord Cyric, Smiter of Mystra, tearer of the Weave. Pay thee due homage to the One! :D ![]() |

| #6MR._TJan 26, 2009 18:12:28 | Hmmm...that's pretty devastating... I suppose Cyric was still holding a grudge from the ToT; I wonder what Kel has to say about this...lol So where does this put Mystra's chosen I wonder? I stay as up to date as I can with novels; is this detailed in any of them? I know what happened to Blackstaff and Qilue, any other major issues there? I guess I'll have to forum troll... |
| #7lord_karsusJan 26, 2009 21:53:29 | So where does this put Mystra's chosen I wonder? I stay as up to date as I can with novels; is this detailed in any of them? I know what happened to Blackstaff and Qilue, any other major issues there? Alustriel: Died sometime before 1,497 DR (FRCG), of seemingly natural causes. Dove: Unknown. Larael: Died sometime before 1,497 DR (FRCG), of seemingly natural causes. Qilue: Died in 1,378 DR, struck dead by the Crescent Blade. The Simbul: Is no longer the Queen of Aglarond. Is "lying low" in the Dalelands, presumably in Shadowdale, with Elminster. Storm: Unknown. Sylune: Is put to her "final rest" defending Shadowdale from Zhent invaders in 1,374 DR. |

So what are you saying....? I am getting a vibe that you are okay with Cyric? Poor misguided soul...... :P |
| #11Evergreen_AldaronJan 27, 2009 20:41:58 | Alustriel: Died sometime before 1,497 DR (FRCG), of seemingly natural causes. Thorough as always LK -You may not want to use those terms. Maybe Forum Lurk? ;) Good point, there are plenty of troll hunters around... ;) |
| #12MR._TJan 29, 2009 18:57:14 | Lurking is creepy but I suppose you have a point. |
| #13JudgeDookieJan 31, 2009 11:49:06 | -It was caused by two things: Where was this? Who?! What! I demand answers!! ![]() |
| #14ZireaelJan 31, 2009 13:03:50 | As far as I know the Traitor's identity is kept still secret. Best that way, I suppose. |

| #17JudgeDookieJan 31, 2009 23:53:17 | Is the Traitor a deity? We don't know. But he is extremely powerful. As the elves are the ones that have him imprisoned, that seems a bit of a stretch though. |
| #18drizztsmanchildFeb 01, 2009 0:02:25 | Is there a thread as to where I can find details about the Traitor? Has he/she been around or is this person/creature new to 3.5e/4e? |
| #19JudgeDookieFeb 01, 2009 16:37:58 | Is there a thread as to where I can find details about the Traitor? Has he/she been around or is this person/creature new to 3.5e/4e? Pick up the novel Stardeep by Bruce Cordell. You can also read LK's book review, but that would give away the story if you plan on reading the novel. |
| #20tyrielwowFeb 02, 2009 2:50:49 | Plague of Spells Novel has some of the initial Spell Plague and then picks up a mere 10 years later. It also has some more info about the traitor and Stardeep.. ![]() This indicates that the Abolethic Sovereignty trilogy is meant as a info bridge to "Before" and "After" the Spellplague events.. I would also guess that the coming novel The Crystal Mountain Book3 of Empyrean Odyssey trilogy has some info about Initial Spell Plague events. I havent read the Unholy Book 3 of the Haunted Lands (Thay) Trilogy but from a quick glance it does have some info about events of Thay and Aglarond before the current time 1479. From what I gathered from the new novels i've read that almost all of them have atleast flashbacks of events happening between 1385-1479.. :D |
| #21lord_karsusFeb 02, 2009 10:25:23 | -Let's get back to the Spellplague. Ask about the Traitor in more appropriate threads, or start new ones if no such threads exist. |
| #22MR._TFeb 02, 2009 18:49:37 | I just discovered Plague of Spells the other day and started reading it. You can glean some good info about the Spell Plague from it. Such is the case with The Haunted Lands trilogy, too. The 1st two novels in the series are great, the 3rd novel has a publication date of March 2009, I can't wait! I'll have to check out the Stardeep series. At first glance it didn't seem terribly interesting but if it helps fill in the pieces then I'll read it. Thanks for the info. |
| #23krownhunter07Feb 02, 2009 20:39:52 | So... what books are out that cover all this? Thank you from a semi-book deprived guy that wants to read. |
| #24JudgeDookieFeb 02, 2009 20:46:22 | -Let's get back to the Spellplague. Ask about the Traitor in more appropriate threads, or start new ones if no such threads exist. ![]() The questions about The Traitor were pertinent to the Spellplague per your post, you boob. ![]() So, if the traitor is partially responsible, then we need to know why. It's our god given right as Dookies! ![]() |
| #25MR._TFeb 03, 2009 17:31:24 | So... what books are out that cover all this? Pretty much the trilogy, or 3, I mentioned: The Haunted Lands The Empyrean Odyssey The Abolethic Sovereignty (Plague of Spells is book 1) The Dungeons (Stardeep is book 1) The first 2 series are good. I'm just starting the last 2. Happy reading. |
| #26lord_karsusFeb 04, 2009 9:22:07 | The first 2 series are good. I'm just starting the last 2. Happy reading. -They aren't that good. |
| #27rinonalyrna_fathomlinFeb 04, 2009 10:39:20 | The Dungeons (Stardeep is book 1) Actually it's not (it's number 3), although the Dungeon books are stand-alone anyway so it doesn't matter. What does matter is that those books, including Stardeep, are pre-Spellplague, and Stardeep really has nothing to do with the Spellplague except for the fact that it sets up some 4E elements for the Abolethic Sovereignty trilogy and the setting in general, such as Xxiphu, the Traitor, and the concept of "Abeir" as a seperate place from Toril. |
| #28MR._TFeb 04, 2009 17:03:03 | -They aren't that good. Perception ftw ;) |

| #30markustay63Feb 06, 2009 13:40:46 | True... I think the Harry Potter novels blow-away ANYTHING written for FR. And if you disagree with me, compare the bank accounts of ALL Tsr/WotC employees - past, present, and future - then add in the bank accounts of every freelancer that has ever worked for TSR or WotC (and I'd even throw DiTerlizzi in there) - put them all together and they would be LAUGHABLE compared to the Billion that Rowling has. :D Perceptions are great and all - but a fat bank account gets you to the Bahamas. ![]() |
| #31JudgeDookieFeb 06, 2009 20:34:03 | What about Maztica? Fabulous vacation spot, that was. ![]() |
| #32lord_karsusFeb 08, 2009 22:12:17 | -Just gotta watch out for the natives with the poison dart frog poison darts (heh, that was interesting to type), and the local flora and fauna (giant, man-eating plants and giant bugs), but other than that. |
| #33JudgeDookieFeb 09, 2009 0:29:49 | I spent 2 minutes going cross eyed trying to read it properly. Thanks a lot, butthead. ![]() |
| #34markustay63Feb 11, 2009 14:18:40 | I get the feeling that if you just take every BAD movie Sci-Fi channel has ever done, you could come up with a close aproximation of Maztica. :D Like Mosquito! and Wyvern and Anaconda 3. Yeah... a regular A-list there... ![]() Think lousy, cheesy-jungle rip-offs, and you have Maztica. Think good Jungle Cheese, like Tarzan and King Kong, and you have Chult. Think plain old normal Jungle, like you see on Animal Planet, and you have Katashaka. So, depending on what level of cheesiness your DM is willing to stoop to, thats what area should be used. Edit: How could I have forgotten the 'lost world' Jungle of Malatra?! |
| #35lord_karsusFeb 11, 2009 21:09:04 | I get the feeling that if you just take every BAD movie Sci-Fi channel has ever done, you could come up with a close aproximation of Maztica. :D -Yuck, probably. Edit: How could I have forgotten the 'lost world' Jungle of Malatra?! -I'm not fully sure if Malatra is better or worse. I am going to say that it is better, just on principle that it isn't a rip off of actual history, but on the other hand, it does have Ostrich people. G-d knows what the Spellplague did to it- if the designers remembered it existed. |
| #36JudgeDookieFeb 12, 2009 0:18:51 | I get the feeling that if you just take every BAD movie Sci-Fi channel has ever done, you could come up with a close aproximation of Maztica. :D Dude, pull it together. One thought at a time. Then, when we have a thought, we cohesively string it along with another so that it all makes sense. In the end, a reader understands the meaning being expressed. --- Oh, CENSORED ! --- Here it comes... --- F#ck! Fart! Frog!! Boat!!! --- F#kken Turrets. ![]() |
